Lets be honest here for a moment and say that there IS a character or characters in a game or games you find to be particularly annoying, either because they have a stupid hairstyle, bad voice acting, ugly face, smug attitude, far too macho, always play it cool, show more bust then action, whine and ***** about everything throughout the game, just look downright stupid for a game character, fall in love far too quickly, don't talk enough, talk too much, clearly wouldn't get laid in real life, etc etc etc, you get the idea.

So yes, who 'is that' or 'are these' annoying characters of which you wish to forget or never play as, against or with ever again, either an NPC, main character, antagonist or otherwise. State who, which game they are from, and why you find them a disgrace to gaming.
Pretty much all the space marines. But well, I guess you could pull off the "they are just there for the sake of having someone to play with a non story-driven game" argument.

So my genuine vote goes to: Token Kawai~ desune girls in japanase RPG's. Seriously, there isn't a SINGLE japanese RPG without a girl that is just too surreal to exist. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY THAT NAIVE? Come the fuck on, girl! Rikku, I'm watching at you.

Nathan Drake

No question

He is without doubt the WORST character ever written. Nothing is charming about him, nothing likable, he's just made to be PERFECT. And that is your problem. You don't make a realism game and throw in a perfect character. There needs to be flaws to make the character seem vulnerable or make the bad guys seem intimidating. Not only is he "perfect" but every time he opens his mouth I just want to beat him to death with a crow bar. Its like playing as Justin Beiber, made to look handsome, embarrass other people within the same category (singers), and very very annoying!
Just looking at him is embarrassing.
The ironic thing is that the developers made Nathan Drake to be likeable and relatable... so how did that turn out?
Huh... what? I think the guy is pretty charming. I like him, what'cha talkin'bout?

Duke Nukem, he is like a douchey version of Master Chief that doesn't know when to shut up. I know he is supposed to be a satire, but idc I just don't like him.
Saying he is version of Master Chief is like saying Doom is a Halo clone.

OT: Umm... does Bobby Kotick count?

Jeeze, all this hate for Tidus...and we all know he's not the disgrace. Don't get me wrong, HE'S BAD but...he is not a disgrace, Oh NO NO NO. The real disgrace? THIS GUY, VAAN:

No reason for tagging along, no bearing on the plot (The last two were something Tidus ATLEAST had), no real motivation, annoying as shit, personality that's just all the worst parts of tidus put into one body..hell, the whole game could have gone on without him even being present. When you're left wandering 'what are you even doing in this game? JUST LEAVE!' You know you're a pretty big disgrace.

Custer is pretty much the only one I'd call "a disgrace".

Just because I hate a whole bunch of characters doesn't mean I think they're actually damaging to the medium. Except maybe Ayumi and Vanille, but my irrational hatred of them is well documented.

Can I use tabletop games? Because I really hate Drizzt and Elminster Aumar. So much so that I have forbiden any of my players from refering to them in a positive light, lest they be crushed under rocks and perish
Did I just see some Elminster bashing? And Drizzt bashing too? In the same sentence?

That makes my day. I thought I was alone in my loathing of those two GM-PCs.

OT: Squall, FFVIII. Whiner, treats his 'friends' like garbage.

I'll just make a list.

5. That protagonist guy from Valkyria Chronicles
4. Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy (thank you Neverhoodian for reminding me)
3. Mitsuo Kubo from Persona 4
2. Blake from Heavy Rain
1. Arl Howe from Dragon Age: Origins

To these five lucky bastards, I would like to say: burn in hell.

VANIIIIIIIILE!

its a damn manhunt against YOU stop being so happy!
also you look stupid.
lol she's not happy at all. That's like...the entire point of her character. Congrats.
Yeah but she was so intensely irritating she was one of the reasons people gave up on the game before they could find out.

Let me make a comprehensive list of why she is annoying.

1. The way she talks: She veers in between english, austrailian and american so much I'm suprised she doesn't have jetlag, also she appears to be voiced by a hamster.
2. The noises she makes during combat. If that isn't male fanservice then I don't know what is. My friend turned his sound off because he was embarassed about the noises that were coming from his tv.
3. The way she runs....just....what.
4. The way she talks to the others characters. She spouts meaningless pretentious drivel while gazing into the distance. Herp Derp.
5. Her part in the plot: If she had just told the others what was going on from the start shit would have gone done down alot differently but she didnt because she wanted to stare into the distance and make cryptic allusions.

Grahhhhh I hate her.
She is possibly the worst character in gaming.

Any marine from Reach.

Fuck those guys. Less uses than a DVD rewinder.
That's unfair... to the DVD rewinder.

I honestly barely noticed them in Reach, though. Mostly because they died so quickly. I think my damned hologram was tougher to kill than the marines...

Just real quick: I was lucky enough to correspond with RA Salvatore for awhile, and found out that, if anything, he hates Drizzt more than any of us ever could. The good folks at TSR kept having him pump out book after book, he got told how his characters would react by executives, and it just kept going downhill. The Forgotten Realms and everything in it was nothing more than an unfunny joke on gamers where the punchline was your wallet.

Personally, as far as TTRPG's go, I hate ERIN FRIGGIN' TARN more than anything. Talk about a holier than thou slitch with a stick in her bum. A friggin' know-it-all who contaminates an entire friggin' RPG with her existence. From her blathering on about good and evil without taking into account outside factors, to her slavish praise of anything she deems good, it was a sad sad day indeed for the Rifts system when we found out that she survived the Vampire Kingdoms.

But back to video games:

My most hated video game character is Batman from DCUO. He called me so much I was starting to wonder if I jilted him at the prom or something. And when Robin punked me out, I just chucked the game at that point.

But it was Statesman is the one I hate. He's from City of Heroes, and you'd have to be into the whole history and story of it as to why. But he's the biggest unhung villain of the entire piece, and everyone slobbers over him like a gold plated vagina. He's invaded sovereign nations, almost started nuclear wars, gotten the world involved in 2 interdimensional wars, and everyone throws in your face what a hero he is.

I hated the guy who he's a Marty-Stu of, and the way that Dev griefed people using him. Yeah, picking on 10th level characters with a GIANT MONSTER is really mature. I hated the way he's the most useless, ineffectual, piss poor excuse for a superhero EVER. I read the book on a bet and hated him even more. He's worse than 2 dimensional, he's the power fantasy of a fat kid and it showed.

His backstory, the Wiki, the novels, everything just makes him into a bigger and bigger douche, a complete power fantasy that sucks at even being the slightest bit heroic.

Well, the Master chief has less personality and emotion than a cement block. he is the least interesting character i have ever come across, that of itself does not make for a bad character, but the way the fanboys treat him as bad-ass in hyper-condensed really puts me of the character.
Well the books go into more detail as to who exactly John is and what his motives are, but I see where you're coming from. If you go solely by the games then there's not much you can glean from him.

Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy gets my vote. It's like they took everything that was annoying about Anakin from the prequels and cranked it up to eleven. You can tell just by LOOKING at him that he's a whiny *****:

Now if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge to strangle something.
I agree, Rosh Penin was stupid, but that game was amazing, I have so many memories of the online multiplayer from when I was a kid.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say Duke Nukem. There's a difference between being a parody and being a steaming pile of shit, and the Duke is well within the "shit" category. You want a good parody of the muscly "macho man" stereotype? Try Johnny Bravo; a man who thinks he's the coolest, sexiest thing on Earth, but lives with his mom and is well-acquainted with the taste of pepper spray and women's fists. That's a goddamn parody, and the creators of Duke Nukem would have been better off just copying that character wholesale. Sure, they'd have been panned being a blatant ripoff, but it's better than being responsible for the most abominable character in the history of anything.

The Courier of Fallout New Vegas fame
I'm actually rather curious about that. The Courier was more or less a blank slate, to be filled in by the player. How exactly is the Courier disgraceful, if it's up to players like you and I to craft the Courier's persona, behavior, and actions? Doesn't that mean, by extension, that we are a disgrace to gaming? Deep, man.

finally/most importantly: That God damned dog from Duck Hunt!
/repressed childhood memories.
/anger level rising.

The light gun kills the ducks, but no matter how many times I shoot, the dog just keeps laughing... it just keeps laughing... laughing...
yes thats exactly what I was thinking when I picked the Courier. Also though I found the idea that despite you being a courier you don't know where a damn thing in the world is....I mean all that was ruined was your face when you got shot

and nothing needs to be said about the dog except: why couldn't I ever fucking kill him?

Every Space Marine and every Non-space Marine in a non-space Shooter EVER!!!
Their names aren't important. Their personality is always of the "I'm actually a big pacifist, but an order's an order and blah-blah."
Let's just replace them with a create-a-character or have them be faceless anyway.
How the hell are the Space Mrines in Warhammer 40K pacifists? Not to mention the Chaos Space Marines.
