I hate Daenerys from A Song of Ice and Fire. I mostly hate how everyone else loves her character because, in the show, she's portrayed as a powerful female character who has got her shit together. This hold true for the first 2 books sure, I loved her character then. Turns out she's really just a stupid teenager who bit off more than she could chew.

Is there ANYONE I'm supposed to like in the Resident Evil series? I can't recall a single protagonist or side character who I connected with or liked in any way whatsoever.
Also, I know the word "Romeo" has essentially become synonymous with "Passionate Romantic", but frankly, I just thought he was a whiny immature *****. I think that might have been the point Shakespeare was trying to make, but as mentioned before, he's now famous for being "super romantic and stuff". Maybe it's only with people who've never actually read/seen the play.

I hate robert downey jr's Tony Stark, and everything he represents for marvel's movie-verse (yes, I'm looking at you, Avengers: The Sitcom).

Feels weird when a lot of people are pointing out that they hate characters for being precisely what they're meant to be. Guess that's personal taste though.

I was going to say Claptrap from Borderlands, but I think I'll just change that to every character from Borderlands.

Otherwise can't say I really hate many characters. Unless you count Elizabeth Gilbert's character in Eat, Pray, Love, though I doubt many on here "love" her.

For me it's Winnie the Pooh. He is just obnoxious for me. Rabbit is a character who is obsessed getting everything neat and tidy. He doesn't hate Pooh, he just wants him out of his house, which is very normal for me. So what does Pooh do? He forces himself into his house, wants 'a teeny smackeral of honey', even though Rabbit says there is none. When honey is eventually found, Pooh translates that 'smackeral' to 'a container full of' and just goes ahead and gobbles up all the honey. And then he constantly has that huge 'pwetty pwease' smile. And after that he's STILL hungry.

Maybe I'm reading way to much into this but Winnie the Pooh is a character I could never connect to. There are some characters you're 'supposed' to like, according to the Imdb forums, but I'm very interested what your opinion is, Escapist?
The characters in Winnie the Pooh are caricatures of the common personality types. I know a Councillor that uses Winnie the Pooh to help identify personality traits for the clients by asking which character they identify with the most etc.

just about any 'Main Character' that's ever existed... particularly those of the '30-something-white-male-dipped-in-brown' persuasion...

though to be specific:

Cloud Strife
Sephiroth
Ichigo Kurosaki
Yukiteru Amano
Shinji Ikari (but i'm not sure i'm supposed to 'like' him ._.)
Naruto Uzumaki (originally, now i'm rather 'meh')
Kagome Higarashi

i'd put Master-Chief up there, but i'm not even sure i dislike the guy or just the hype... and all the rest are just 'UGH!! not another one!' so i blank most of them... but primarily MCs of the whiney-***** variety for most J-type stuff, or 30-something-dipped-in-brown for the western stuff... or a mix of both... yea... just not interested... ._.

or Sues, ANY kind of Sues... ie: Superman, Wonderwoman, Batman (to the least degree, but still)

Oddly, i still rather like Captain America... hmm... i'll ponder that later...

Brian Kinney from 'Queer as Folk' (US version)- This one baffles me because because everyone I've talked to seems to adore him. He's the embodiment of everything gay men supposedly aspire to be but didn't make his personality very likeable til later in the series. I just didn't see the appeal and I'm not exactly a shinning example of monogamy or marriage material.
It took me years, but I finally found someone who agrees with me. I feel a celebration should be in order.

WOOT!

I'm surprised a single soul even understood who I was talking about. Good man, festivities are indeed in order!

I don't precisely know how many people loved him. but Frodo Baggins, (in the movies at least) despite it having been on my to-do list for years I still haven't actually READ Lord of the Rings, but I recently re-watched the movies, and just wanted to smack Frodo in the face

for starters, he's constantly praised for being resiliant to the ring, now a little bit of perspective.

Bilbo carried that ring for 60 YEARS, and still managed to let go when the time came (albeit with a little nudge from Gandalf) Frodo had it for about a year, and when the time came to destroy it, "the ring is mine!" you dick, you deserved to get your finger bitten off, there is no way he didn't know that the ring would never answer to him, and once he put it on, everyone in Mordor knew where he was, what was he hoping to accomplish?

that and the falling into the marshes for no reason bit, Bilbo was a much better protagonist I thought, but maybe I'll feel differently when I get around to reading the books, maybe get a little more perspective on it

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Stormbird actually is, and what 'It's alright, it's ok' typically means (Hint - It most common uttered small children when their in pain).
I know what the Songbird was, him being her "protector" of sorts and vowing to help her by bringing her food, books and stopping outsiders from getting to her. That's why he does what he does before well, erm, what I said after she orders him to ruin everything.

The whole scene might be a problem with the game's attitude to gore and brutality, but since it was Elizabeth that done it I either think that she's really broken in the head or she actually hated Songbird that much (which isn't really displayed in the game to be honest) to warrant it.
Stormbird was described by the Bioshock team as a kind of 'abusive boyfriend,' at least from Elizabeth's perspective. Which explains her mixed feelings towards the accursed thing. On one hand, its basically her only friend in the world; on the other, its her jailer, the very face of her subjugation. Regardless if its really Comstock that's the villain, Stormbird is the nightmare that's haunted her for her entire life, while at the same time making life even possible.

Killing Stormbird is a ridiculously brutal and painful act for Elizabeth, but ultimately necessity for her to be actually free.

That being said, I don't think Irrational Games advocates you murdering your ex-boyfriends/girlfriends just because they were a bit clingy.

I think.
Why do you keep on calling him "Stormbird"? It's Songbird.

Superman and Captain America. Sorry, I'm not American and I'm not a fan of either patroitism (being proud of the patch of land you were born feels like being proud you hace brown hair) nor the ideal of "the American dream" (which rings very false for me. That these characters are an embodiment of that really doesn't do ti for me. They are perfect and they are perfect because they are American. It feels really off to me.

Also, any character in those lines, whose part of their "greatness" is not a character strength but a fortuitous trait of birth is ridiculous. SO Wolverine and Goku too.

Black Widow, at least in the movies.
She has such a holier-than-thou, "I'm superior to everyone else in the room" vibe to her that I just can't stand.
To be fair, Tony Stark has the same thing but at least he's funny.

Naruto. Period end of story. I know people like the comics, or even the Japanese series with sub titles. But he's an annoying little brat to me. It's too bad too, it's a great story over all.

Duke Nukem - Snip
Well, I do not think anyone ever really liked Duke Nukem, even before DNF, he was tolerable at best for most people because he kind of reminded you of a 5th grader running around kicking girls in the shins because he did not know how to deal with his emotions.

As for me, at the risk of creating animosity, I will say Gordon Freeman.

Not because he is a bad character, but because he is simply not a character at all. He is a template upon which the player projects themselves. Not that i think the Half Life series is a bad series -in fact it is quite good- rather, I think that Gordon Freeman is something of a storytelling dead-end. He is not compelling, it is the other characters in the game that are likeable and compelling, and while you have a silent protagonist, it limits your ability to tackle certain narratives and philosophical questions.

I would agree with you, but face it, Yuki acts the way we all would in his situation. Its like Shinji from Evangelion; he's a little ***** but he tends to do what most of us weak humans would do in that situation.

Anyone who boasts otherwise would probably be someone more like Kosaka when shit hits the fan.

I watched one episode of Archer and couldn't see the appeal. He pissed me off, and none of the other characters endeared themselves to me either.

You do realise that the Ring is constantly exerting its inflience on him? It was literally magical, he wasn't being a dick. Bilbo would have done the same thing if he'd been asked todestroy it.
