Karren Travis. May she burn for what she did to Halo and Star Wars.
You mean offer different perspectives? I'll admit I'm not a big fan of her Halo work, but she did make the Republic Commando novels flipping awesome, and her work in Gears of War was great.
No, I LOVE Republic Commando and her GOW work. It's Legacy Of The Force and Halsey in Grasslands that pisses me off.
Legacy of the Force was a disaster waiting to happen with or without Traviss. The only person who could write a decent story was Aaron Alliston. Traviss and Troy Denning were too busy trying to make the other's pet characters look bad and it was detrimental to the story. Plus Denning turned Tahiri into a pedophile.

I don't care how bad Traviss botched Mara Jade and Lumiya's deaths, at least she didn't have a previously likeable character perform attempted rape against a fourteen year old while simultaneously torturing his best friend to death in front of his eyes.
Yeah, the Republic Commando novels were badass. Honestly, most of the EU is iffy, especially when they have multiple people writing the books, things just clash.

No, the person I hate most is whoever pissed Traviss off enough that she's not finishing the Imperial Commando series... I'm pretty sure it was the writers in that Clone Wars cartoon and their "pacifist" Mandos...

As I wish to not feel like i'm derailing this thread I'll try to keep this as brief as I can. You noted that you find Miranda flips from

"You're so amazing, I wish I was more like you!" to "I don't know what the Illusive Man sees in you".
Please use actual quotes and do not exaggerate the character. To me she appeared to acknowledge your competence but was easily frustrated. You also stated that she behaves like a slut most of the time. What gave you this impression.

Also you mentioned never sided with her but still she still does that thing at the end of ME2. That would likely be a mix of "Even evil has standards", "Heel realisation" and possibly a bit of "My god, what have I done", (see tvtropes.com for the lines in the quotes).

About part where you mentioned her "selfish" quests, i'm curious as to why you find it fishy that she wanted access to alliance resources. It also seemed to me that she was trying to warn people of the spoiler place and save her sister, (not her clone) at the same time. If you evidence to the contrary please show me if you respond to this.

Now lines about Miranda and her acting like a spoiler brat.
Mikeyfell said:
"I used to be the Illusive Man's Favorite" "Cerberus doesn't do anything wrong. I know that for a fact because I like Cerberus!"
Again please do not exaggerate the character. If you wish to describe a character, do not describe something which is not the character. I will concede that her opinions of Pragia to be highly questionable but she most certainly never says anything like that.

Now in order to help prevent derailment I will post another character I hate. The SW:TOR trooper companion Tanno Vik. I understand that they wanted a token evil teammate. However unlike to other bioware examples of this I did not find him to be funny, deep or anything more than a affable scumbag. I hold the belief that if there was to be a token evil teammate for the trooper, it should have been a person who was approachable, likeable or understandable but a well-intentioned extremist. Sort of like Zenith, (Jedi Consular companion) Rusk, (Jedi Knight companion) or General Garza, (the trooper's commander).

Wow... six pages in and I don't think anyone has mentioned Otis from Dead Rising yet. Allow me then:

Otis has the sheer, unbelievable BALLS to call you every minute or so throughout the entire game to spout off inane things that you either already knew or didn't care about. Should you have the gall to be attacked while he starts slowly telling you his information, he immediately calls you back seconds after you start fighting the zombies that have surrounded you. What happens when you answer? He insults you by demanding that you not be as rude.

Otis can go fuck himself. Out of all of the people and zombies you murder in that game, why did he get to be invincible?
This mother fucker right here is worse than Navi from Ocarina of Time. There, I said it.

I'll try to avoid the oft-maligned characters like Kai Lang.

He was terrible, by the way.

But on the Dragon Age front...

White hair and black eyebrows? That's a paddlin'. Being a frontline fighter and not wearing shoes? That's a paddlin'. Going on and on about his own suffering to everyone? That's a paddlin'. Talking about how much he hates mages when he spends all his time hanging out with mages? Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'.

See Isabela, I could have tolerated your "I hate when you take on sidequests! Why are you trying to get EXP and loot in an RPG?" attitude. But that final sidequest of yours? Jesus Christ. You want me to make a deal with the slaver guy so that he'll give you his boat. Okay, whatever. So I kill him instead because fuck that noise and... why are you angry at me? Take his boat. He's dead. He doesn't need it. There was no bomb on the boat attached to a heart-rate monitor or some shit. Take the god damn boat.

Take it, already.

No? Just gonna whine at Hawke for a while?

Fine.

Because Hawke was an asshole. A character with all the power in the world and zero fucking motivation to ever do anything. Three god damn acts of reacting to crises rather than actually trying to do something on his own. At least Fenris and Isabela wanted something.

My favourite bit of his "heroism" came in the third act. Commissioned for some reason to find an elven blood mage, he contacts the fugitive's estranged wife. She confesses that he has reappeared and will meet with her that night, but she fears for her life. Hawke hides nearby and waits for him to appear... and then continues to wait as the mage walks up to her, strikes up a conversation, kills her (slowly) and summons a bunch of monsters.

Heroism!

To quote Sarge of Red Vs Blue: "Could you put that in a memo and entitle it, 'SHIT I ALREADY KNOW?'"

Thanks for the fifth speech about how Wardens are all about sacrificing themselves and not gaining power. Hadn't figured that out yet.

Oh, what's that? I hate Tallis, too? Yeah, I hate Tallis, too. But she doesn't deserve an explanation. She knows what she did.

Shifting subjects. Starcraft!

The male reporter's equally bad, but I can't remember his name for a Google image search, so fuck it. Kate Lockwell's picture it is.

A terrible comedy duo in a game full of terrible comedy. They should have been the player's view in to the world around them, but all they did was make it hard to take anyone or anything seriously.

Fuck you, Stetmann.

Miscellaneous!

Can we just pretend that Warrior Within never happened?

I'd have left him off the list if not for Dirge of Cerberus. Can that memory go along with Warrior Within?

Who the fuck is this? I don't even know how this picture got in here.

Also, The Dark Knight Rises would have been way better without Blake and Tate.

For real.

Oh golly I agree with you. I think that I just hate every little thing about her, her attitude to Walt, the way she uses Walt Jr. and Holly to hurt him BAH what a cow!

Any sadistic authoritarian character, from Dolores Umbridge to Sakamochi (Battle Royale), earns my eternal hatred. I very much enjoy seeing them violently punished.

That teacher in Bokurano who seduced his student, then had her gangraped. She's knocked up, he proceeds to date her sister, and [spoiler/] HE GETS AWAY WITH IT. The worst thing that happens to him is a fat kid stabs him, non-fatally. Her family doesn't even press charges. [/spoiler] Please, Dungbeetle, please teleport this guy's dick (and not the rest of him) someplace far away.

For a different flavor of hatred, I have to call out pretty much every party member in the first campaign of Neverwinter Nights 2 (not Mask of the Betrayer, which is better in every conceivable way) with a special citation for Zhjaeve (or however you spell her stupid name which she never says out loud).
She might have been an interesting character based solely on her race (Githzerai), except that she's pretty clearly a knockoff of Dak'kon from Planescape: Torment, a vastly better character from a vastly better game. What makes it especially infuriating is that she unabashedly COMPARES herself to Dak'kon. Specifically, she equates her oath to follow you to his Vow of Two Deaths As One, which is an extremely powerful character moment for Dak'kon that her random "Hey here's important stuff you should now and I'm your friend now" just can't touch.

Cersei Lannister is the most evil character in all of fiction. The mommy card doesn't work on me, I'd gladly kill that ***** with a rusty spoon. She was pretty much the only catalyst in the Lannister/Stark war who knew what she was starting, and went ahead with it anyway.

Please use actual quotes and do not exaggerate the character.
Lots of these quotes would just be transcribing entire conversations or measuring tone.
(If you played ME2 with the sound off I can see how you might not think Miranda is crazy.)
PS: "I don't know what the Illusive Man sees in you" is a quote.

Quote 1 Miranda: If I was running the show I would have done a few things differently (Like what?) To start I would have implanted you with some type of control chip.
Flip to
Quote 2 Miranda: No doubt you've got a lot of questions, Cerberus isn't as evil as people believe. If I can help belay any of your concerns I'd be happy to do so.
and
Quote 1 Shep: I'd like to know a little about you. Miranda: Worried about my credentials? I can crush a mech with my biotics or shoot it's head off from 20 paces. Take your pick
Flip to
Quote 2 Shep: Tell me about yourself Miranda. Miranda: Oh, that's fair, I've spent the last two years learning everything there is to know about you.
and
Quote 1: I don't know what the Illusive Man sees in you.
Flip to
Quote 2: You're practically a perfect bloody human specimen.

There are a ton more but I don't want to read through an entire transcript of the game. Suffice to say the tone of each conversation with her flips around wildly.

You also stated that she behaves like a slut most of the time. What gave you this impression.
Okay. I can see that you've never played Mass Effect 2. I forgive you for wasting both of our times.

Also you mentioned never sided with her but still she still does that thing at the end of ME2. That would likely be a mix of "Even evil has standards", "Heel realization" and possibly a bit of "My god, what have I done", (see tvtropes.com for the lines in the quotes).
I can get behind writing designed to jerk the viewer around, but it should at least make sense in hindsight.
Miranda is Cerberus's biggest fan now when they ask for the thing they sent you after at the start of the game (The thing they spent billions for a way to procure, the thing Miranda was the project head on.) Her loyalty flips. It's out of nowhere, it just is. You can not try to tell me she was surprised to learn that Cerberus wanted to use the Collector base.

You're telling me the Oriana Lawson in Mass Effect 3 isn't a clone of Miranda, even though the one in Mass Effect 2 is? Uh, do you know something I don't?

The reason she went to Sanctuary was to rescue Oriana and kill her father, not to warn the people. She did send out the distress beacon. Or she tried to.
If she survives Sanctuary note that she leaves with Oriana with out turning off the communication scrambler. Shepard has to do that. So yes, extremely selfish.

Now lines about Miranda and her acting like a spoiler brat.

The scene is in an early romance option
Miranda: The Illusive Man has given you everything...
Shepard: What you disapprove?
Miranda: No, I'm just impressed, look at you (Varies depending on background). You've accomplished more than me despite everything my father did to make me perfect.
Couple that with some of the earlier "Control chip" conversations and you've got the recipe for either schizophrenia or blatant manipulation

in the first half of the game all she does is brag about how perfect she is. in the second half all she does is complain about how perfect she is. I don't think it was bad writing I think she was supposed to be a childish spoiled brat.

As for the other line.
Jack: The cheer leader won't admit what Cerberus did to me was wrong.
Miranda: That wasn't Cerberus, not really. But clearly you were a mistake.
Then if you challenge her.
Shepard: Are we good?
Miranda: Not even remotely.

She can't fathom something she's put her name on could do anything bad. Then when you confront her she just pouts.

A little later in the game you talk about the ME1 experiments on Rachnai and Thorian creatures and she backpedals over all that too.

I guess to keep the thread on track...
Another character I hate is Dom from the Gears of War games.
If you want to make somebody less likable than Marcus Fenix all you have to do is make him shoot his wife in the face.

I am attempting to have a disciplined debate. If this is not going to be disciplined then I refuse to continue debating with you.

I dislike Vaughn Urien in Dragon Age because I find him to be a flat character. No excuse, no pet the dog moments, no depth. While I would be fine if he was just a mook or you kill him after only a very brief conversation, (after all, not much chance to get to know them) you talk to him enough that it became distracting to me that he didn't have any depth.

Just about all of the characters in Alpha Protocol. The cut scenes like the horrible intro were widely panned on GameTrailers long before launch and it was clear where the game was lacking technically. But, I kept my pre-order despite the technical flaws and limitations because all I wanted was a spy rpg, and man oh man did I hate every freakin' character. Especially the protagonist.

1. Kreia - KOTOR 2 (she's just an outright *****-a-roni sandwich)_
2. Angel Lady - Borderlands (I don't like a ***** that's up in muh face)
3. Jar Jar Binks - SW Trilogy (just 'cos he exists there)
4. Vlad - GTA4 (talk about a prick)
5. Mary Jane - Spiderman Trilogy (the predecessor of Kristen Stewart)
6. River - Firefly (came off as a token character and didn't come off as relevant till Serenity)

Hammer from Fable 2. Because she wouldn't shut up. And before anyone argues that, Navi was at least helpful in most combat situations to make up for her going "Hey!" and "Listen!"

"Don't talk much, do you?" No, no I'm just not responding in the hopes that you'll take a hint and shut up. Seriously, whenever I play that part of the game, I turn the volume off so I don't have to hear her ramble.

Roche from The Witcher 2.

He's a well written character, but perhaps not the type of character that should should get to close with. He's a fanatic and a pyschopath and seems the type who will eventually stab his friends in the back without remorse. Playing through his side of the campaign I felt dirty doing anything with him. I've been friends with people like him in real life. You know the type: the ones who act like a twat and you have no option to be just let them get on with it because there's no reasoning with them, all the time hoping that their actions don't discredit you to much. Well he's like that, only instead of acting like a dick, he's straight up murdering people.

Kochanski from red dwarf...

Admittedly I liked her in Red Dwarf XIII but I hated that they used her to replace Rimmer in Season 7 but then again if she wasn't there they wouldn't have made the Rimmer Experience and we wouldn't have gotten the song so... I love Kochanski?

Christ, y'know what I just hate Raiden from MGS 2, okay,,,

Every. Single. Character. In. Jericho.

Seriously, I hated them all with a passionate burning rage and I've yet to witness such poor characterisation of the characters you're playing at all ever. Even the antagonists of games have been more likeable than the entire cast of Clive Barker's Jericho. Seriously, why did he think producing a collection of characters who ***** and moan at each other, punctuating their conversations with homophobic, racist and other language that is just flat out offensive to every single group of individuals, would be a good idea? How the hell are you meant to root for them?

After having seen the first two seasons of Weeds, I'd have to say Silas Botwin. He's so goddamn whiny and ungrateful that I wish his mom would just deck him across the face.

Knives from Trigun. He didn't deserve to receive mercy.

SArmy: The fans of Sylar from Heroes. Thanks to them, the writers went so far off the tracks to make the show revolve around Sylar's mommy and daddy issues, they forgot the rest of the cast.

Any villain that doesn't end up dead or defeated. Seriously, I just don't get this trend of bad guys winning. There is way too much of that in real life. When I have entertainment, I want to see the good guys win. The newspaper and news sites are for me to be depressed, angry, etc. about bad guys winning. Fiction is for me to at least believe that the good guys do win.
