Characters you like that others don't.

Does anybody like a character (anime/movie/book/whatever) that most everyone hates? If so, who is it and why do you like them?

For me, it's Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I know most people see him as a whinny, emo-*****, and hate him because of that. But I like him and can somewhat understand/relate to him. His reluctance to pilot, and his reactions to the massive amount of shit he went through, actually makes him a better character, in my opinion, than the countless other near identical giant mech pilots found in anime. It gives him a hint of realism.

Lots of people I've talked to seem to dislike Chuck Norris for some reason. It's not like he's a mean guy or anything.

She was who I immediately thought of. She's professional, genuinely helpful, and probably my favorite moment in the game involves her near the very end.

Other than her...well, there's characters I don't hate that others do, but I wouldn't say I like them. Jar Jar Binks or Scrappy Doo, for instance.

Ashley Williams. But honestly, it's mostly because she gave me something to look at during those elevator rides. Yep, I'm that shallow. (I mean have you seen the back of that armor?)

I guess people hate the character less than the show but I'm a huge fan of Kira Yamato from Gundam Seed. He's hands down my favorite Gundam pilot.

Really? Because I thought Kira was a good pilot. Sure, not better that Char or anything, but I liked him. I hated Destiny though. SEED was great, however.

As for me, Yukari Takeba, from Persona 3.

Sure, she's one massive *****, but she's also a lot like a girl I know, who also happens to be a bit of a *****. Both are nice, a majority of the time, however.

Same here on both Navi and Colette. I didn't know people hated Colette, but if they did... yeah. Colette is awesome.

Everybody goes on and on about how she's so incredibly annoying; yet I found her to be inexplicably endearing and adorable!

I can only think of 3 right at the moment and two are from the same game. Navi and Princess Ruto from Ocarina of time, Navi because she's actually helpful, unlike pretty much every other video game sidekick ever, and Ruto because I think she's the only video game princess that actually says point blank "You saved me, you marry me." (I'd like to note by the way that many people dislike characters like Princess Peach precisly because they DON'T say that).

The third one would have to be Ashley Williams from Mass Effect, I actually found her to be pretty tolerable. She's vastly more interesting then Kaiden, I found her reasonably useful on my first play through and she's pretty easy on the eyes to boot. I seriously have no clue what issues people have had with her, is there a glitch somewhere in the game where she reaches through the screen and kills your dog or something?

I like Shinji (Evangelion) a lot. Considering what he has gone through, and how he has been thrown without preparation or training into horrific battles with nightmarish monsters, I understand where his problems come from. He's a sensitive Japanese child, not an internet tough-guy, and definitely not Killfuck Soulshitter the Conquerer.

My girlfriend doesn't mind Navi (from Ocarina of Time), and actually pointed out her good line from near the end of the game. I know she also likes Shadow the Hedgehog (mainly his single game) for reasons I don't understand.
