So, this thread is for you to list the characters that you love, those true bastards you love to hate, and the ones that you just plain hate with a burning passion. So, while I'll let you all post your own selections in time, I'll of course start this off.
For those that see a wall of text and balk, you don't have to read the rest. This is just my own contribution to the thread. Fell free to be as brief or as elaborate as you feel in your own comments.
Character I love: Batman
This one took a minute for me to think of one. There are plenty of characters from plenty of series/shows/games/etc that I enjoy. I could probably list 3 or more characters from more than a few things that I really like. But none of them compare to Batman. While I'm not a comic book fan, I'm sure if there was one I would actually enjoy, it would be a Batman comic (even heard in the recent DC reboot his comic is the best). But it's not just that. It's movies. Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight are all great films. Hell, even Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are almost so bad that they are good. And I'll deem you a heretic if you call Batman: The Animated Series anything other than great. I also enjoyed Batman Beyond and while The Brave and the Bold is kinda campy, I found the episodes I watched enjoyable. And don't forget The Justice League series. Even among the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern (all of whom are far more powerful) Batman came away as the greatest hero of them all. Just using his wits, skill and determination. I'll even consider his rogues gallery as part of the reason I like him. Hey, they wouldn't exist without him, and most people will tell you that Batman has the best rogues gallery of any superhero.
Character I Love to Hate: Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender
There was no greater villain in the entire series. She's the youngest child of Fire Lord Ozai and little sister of Zuko. She's far more prominent in the series than her father and acts as the main antagonist for two seasons (or close enough). She's an incredible fire bender prodigy. So much so that her flames are blue and she is one of the few people in the series capable of bending Lightning. But skill is just the beginning. She's intelligent to boot. And can read people with incredible accuracy. She's incredibly manipulative and a pretty good strategist. She even conquered the Earth Kingdom with just herself and her two friends which is something Iroh couldn't do with an entire army (though he came close). She predicted the Day of Black Sun invasion and prepared for it. I think it says a lot that Ozai listened to her despite the apparent belief that the Avatar was dead. One of the scenes that stands out the most was when she recruited her friend Ty Lee. Ty Lee had joined the circus and wanted to stay, but when it became apparent that Azula was just going to keep tormenting her with insane requests (set the net on fire and release all the wild animals) at the show Ty Lee joined Azula's mission. Keep in mind that she did that to a friend. Yeah, Azula is an evil *****. And I loved her for every minute of it.
Character that I Hate: Cell from Dragonball Z
I hate him so much. Not because he is a villain. No, I hate him for his arrogance and sense of entitlement. First, Cell is proud of his strength. But he didn't earn it. He was created with cells from Goku, Vegeta, Picollo, Frieza, and even Tien and Krillen. He even gains a large amount of his power from absorbing people for their Ki, so that's not even his own. All of his techniques are developed from other people. And, in order to attain his perfect form, he had to absorb Androids 17 and 18. Yet despite all this, he's so proud of "his power". No, Cell, it's not your power. You just stole it from other people. When Vegeta had him on the ropes, he just became angry and belligerent. For that matter, when Gohan had him beaten after attaining Super Saiyan 2, Cell did the same thing. Going so far as to self destruct in an effort to kill them all. Yep, when things didn't go his way, he acted like a spoiled brat. And when he survived his own suicide, he came back and fired an aimless attack that killed Trunks. Pretty much just to be a dick. Honestly, I never really got his motivation. If he just wanted to test himself, he didn't have to threaten the planet. Goku would have happily fought him for the challenge. And why would he destroy the planet if no one could beat him, especially since he already believed himself to be the unbeatable superman (who throws a hissy fit when he loses)? Oh, yeah. Just to be a dick. God, I hate Cell.
