Read it and loved it.

He's kinda preaching to the choir writing that in the Guardian. I'd much rather by some means he was able to get Daily Mail and Daily Express readers to read it. This is the problem with newspaper segregation in the UK, you have DM readers and Guardian readers, they don't talk to each other and they don't read each other's papers.

I agree that people should stop being so prudish about LGBT, but his commentary on Star Wars made me repeatedly headdesk. Star Wars was conspicuously devoid of sex at large, kissing being the absolute farthest the series ever showed. As an Expanded Universe nut, I also know for a fact how straight Luke is... Mara Jade is equal parts awesome and blatant fanservice.

OT: Damn good article, Brooker at his usual sarcastic self. He had a little bit of a rant about this on the last episode of 10 O'Clock Live, but I'm too lazy to scrat about on youtube finding it.

I didn't get the joke then, and I never heard of the guy. Like most posters, I was brought in by the headline and read the article with no prior knowledge. It's cool that it's satire, but that was not readily apparent.

I don't have a problem with character's being gay, what I have a problem with is character's not being constantly gay. For example, it's not a good idea to throw in a gay option in your trilogy that stars the same protagonist.

Why? Is there a time limit on acting on gay feelings? Ian McKellen didn't come out till he was past middle age. What if Shepard was just looking for the right dude who knew how to hold him. I mean I'd hate it if my HETEROsexuality was questioned because I hadn't porked the nearest woman regardless of my particular interest for her.

And you know there is an option other than constant homosexuality, bisexuality. So often people see to forget this is a reality and in fact bisexuality is more prevalent than pure homosexuality.

If there was any point in the series he specifically stated he absolutely had no sexual interests in the same sex, even to his close friends who he'd have no reason to deceive on this issue. Then we might have a problem, but only a contradiction. And people are contradictions as they change over time.
