Yeah, I bought Bioshock from a gameshop preowned and I get it back and there is a huge crack right through the disk. It wouldn't play so I took it back and they gave me another in decent condition this time. The crap thing was that this was one of the only times I hadn't checked the disk just after buying it in the shop.

if you were dumb enuf to buy a used game without asking to see it first, its ur own fault. ive bought many games, often asking to see each copy they have to choose the best one. its called common sense... thought apparently not so common anymore.

I don't want to keep dumping on them, but that's why I hate Gamestop. I can't respect a company that constantly tries to screw over the only people who keep them in business. I get a slimy feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I walk into one.

I always check the game before I buy it to see if it's really scratched. The clerks know me for going there often (not so often anymore) and they show me the disc to see if I still want it. I have bought games before that don't work, and they would give me a different copy and if it doesn't work the second time, they just give me the new game at the same price.

I like it there, but I wouldn't mind if anyone could recommend a different game store in Chicago.

I don't sell games there or anywhere anymore, I just keep them now.

It is only a small step to look at the cd before you leave the store. If you do not, and you buy something at a used game store where they are required to insert the disk back into the empty case, you are either ignorant or down right stupid.

Usually when I buy a game new from such stores, the game is still pre-packaged. If the new game was also removed from the box and you had no alternative stores to go to that sold the same new game for the same tag, you would become double the fool for not looking at the disk before leaving. I would never buy a new game if there was even the slightest hint of a scratch on the disk.

Such used game stores also tend to have a warranty. Something like a seven day customer satisfaction and fourteen to thirty day play-through guarantee. Should you find yourself with a new or used copy that does not work, you can return it for a new one. However if you rave in the store and curse out the employees, you will not receive a very satisfactory reply from them. This is all common sense.

Wasn't there a story like this not long ago? Someone bought a used copy of Madden 09 and it contained a blank DVD with some horribly racist slurs written on it in permanent ink?

It is not YOUR responsibility to check games before you buy, it is the RETAILER'S responsibility to ensure you are getting what you paid for and if they fail to ensure you are getting that product, boycott their asses.
But then again, Buyer Beware.

My Gamestop is great, sure you get crap for trading in games but I rather keep em anyway. the employees are nice guys and they don't pull crap like that to my knowledge.

Reason #5983 Not to Shop at Gamestop.

One time I went to the Flushing NY store (during one of their buy 2 get 1 sales: the only time I'll walk into a gamestop) which is probably their worst location, and got my brother a DS game. After the fruitcake looks for the games for a half hour (this was after already waiting on line for a half hour) I was just happy to be out of there. Of course the DS case was empty and I had to go back there; one last time.

This is the same location where my wife's friend (who doesn't know anything about games; only has a wii) went in looking for the wii fit last year and they laughed at her. She doesn't go to these sites; she doesn't know Nintendo sent them all to Europe for more money. I really don't know how that store is around considering that they have to depend on a certain amount of naivete to move their overpriced used games.

The only gamestop I can tolerate (and I've been to quite a few of the NYC stores) is the Rockefeller Center store. The prices still suck but the management and employees aren't complete morons who harass you. But I even hesitate going there because I hate the whole corporate strategy of ripping off gamers.

Great thing about used games at GameStop, you have... what is it... 5 days I think where you can bring it back for a full refund. No questions asked. I've done this a few times before I discovered the wonders of Game Fly.

Huh... I've never had something like that happen. I also have never been to Gamestop. Sorry to hear about that.

I rarely buy used games anyways, but you cant just return it? The product is defective, there is no reason that you cant take it back.

This has happened to me so many times I refuse to go to Gamestop anymore.
1. Legacy Of Kain: Defiance- freezes every time consistently on Part VII
2. Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen 2- Freezes on first boss
3. Second Sight- Audio Malfunction on Second level and continues throughout game
4. Hitman Trilogy- Bought whole trilogy and opened it up to find no discs at all. I later went back to get them though

These and many others are the reason I know shop at Movie Trading Co. (which has cheaper prices too)
