Now, I ask this, because I watched a show on this not thirty minutes ago and it sickened me. No, seriously. I'm not usually repulsed by anything, but this litterally makes me sick. Now, I should probally clarify just incase.

This pageant was with little girls no older that seven or eight, dolling themselves up like little porcelain dolls. Fair enough, I thought. It's just make-up, right? It just slowly went down hill from there though. These parents, all fourty something women, worked their kids to the bone, cursed THEM when things went wrong, berrated them when they didn't look good enough and, no I'm not kidding on this one, insulted the other seven year old contestants. I don't even want to talk about the swim-wear section. It was just beyond wrong.

But then I realised this might just be a difference in culture. I'm English, and we don't really have pageants of any kind on a wide scale in the UK, besides the obvious "Miss UK". It's a much more common thing in America, or atleast that's what the show made it out to seem, for these pageants to take place.

So, short and sweet for those that don't want to read the above rant: What are your views on pageants?

Pageants for kids...eugh. I have the same feeling as you on this subject. Older people though, I don't really care, seeing as it is their own decision, and they probably haven't been stuffed into a tutu.

Its honestly a bit disturbing. If you can find a documentary on the ones they do in Texas, you want to see some people who should have never had children....

Any time a parent tries to live through their kid is completely wrong, now of cousre if the child truly wishes to do it thats fine...thats rarely the case though.
^ this

+ Child swimwear pangents should be made illegal...
+ They really do look like dolls

It's screwed up. Parents forcing their kids into anything is...wrong. So wrong. This is just disturbing. Plus it made me think of Angela from The Office(American version) and her kid size clothing.. More disturbing.

The pageant runners can't be blamed for abusive parents, but they can be blamed for having a swimwear section.

Mums dressing up their kids in tons of make up and rediculously over-priced clothes is stupid and wrong. Not to mention it turns the kids into attention-seeking, arrogant bitches.

No no no no no no no no and NO. Did I mention no?
These mums are trying to live through their daughters. I read about it once, a girl had bleached blond hair, little tops and skirts.
What the fuck are they playing at!?
The child's health is my main concern, but they're carrying on the idea that women are only pretty dolls to be taken down and played with.
I'd never do that to my child, and if I knew someone who did, I'd knock some sense into their thick skulls.

What happened to the dream of a girl president? She's dancing in the video next to 50 cent.

Just another form of Conformity. Teaching children from a young age that looking good and winning is everything and actually thinking is worth nothing.
