Problem: a) the bill has pretty much already passed, assuming some kind of miracle doesn't happen, and b) similar laws in other areas of Japan is pretty much guaranteed. It's pretty much the analogue of the California violent video game law, except it applies to animation and comics as well.

In other words, this bill wouldn't cover the infamous RapeLay, but could potentially cover things like the groundbreaking Neon Genesis Evangelion (two words: hospital scene) or even "magical girl" shows that imply nudity on underage characters during transformation sequences. One could hardly classify long-running action manga Berserk as hentai, but under this bill the sexual scenes would make it vulnerable to reclassification - and in Japan as in the West, many retailers will opt not to stock adult material entirely. It could also hamstring entire genres that deal with same-sex romance (and given statements by Tokyo governor Ishihara calling gays and lesbians "deficient," [http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/12/07/the-governor-strikes-again-gays-deficient-and-bill-opponents-need-christian-morals/] this may be intended).

I honestly don't think this is that bad. I've been to Japan, and it's true that you can walk into almost ANY convenience store and find disturbing porn. Both in manga, and photograph form. I can enjoy porn if it depicts two people being intimate and having normal sex, but the depictions of women in both anime and video doing so much disgusting shit is really offensive. I'm sure Japan would be a better society if they didn't have so much material with women being dominated and horribly sexualized in their anime and manga.

For Example, (This is quite a sexually explicit example, be warned)

When I was in Japan, I was horny one night and borrowed a porn video from a Japanese friend titled - "Dream Shower." I figured - "Ok, this is probably about some people in the shower having sex, right?" But I was horribly wrong... In the video, there were a bunch of different scenes, all scenes featured one naked Japanese woman and about 10 or 12 naked Japanese guys. The guys would chase the woman all over the house, until they finally caught her, and then one would do her on the floor while the other 10+ guys were jerking off all over her body and she would be totally cum-soaked. get it? "Dream Shower." It didn't end there either, then there were two girls they made eat different things, vegetables and stuff, out of each others' assholes for a half hour (I forwarded the video of course, didn't wanna watch that shit for a half hour)!

I don't know how much they pay Japanese women to do porn, but it must be a lot because that video had some of the worst things I've ever in my life. It puts American S&M porn to shame. I've also seen things equally as bad, or stupider, in Manga and Anime. All of the weird tentacle sex scenes are just stupid as hell. Japanese guys should respect their woman more, it's no wonder the women don't wanna marry those guys and their population is declining terribly.
It would be better to ban all porn like that in Japan.

CHILDREN AND ADULTS ALIKE!!" Do you think this is healthy for a society? Or when Manga and Anime depict girls of questionable age doing bizarre sexual things? NO, and that's why I'm for this bill. And I did read the article, so mind your own F-ing business.

It's not ABOUT the porn. The bill outlaws ANYTHING illegal being shown in anime, manga, or games unless the title is labeled 18+. It does, in point of fact, go after everything EXCEPT porn. Nor is the content being outlawed just sexual. Merely showing someone fighting or owning a gun could fall under the umbrella of this vaguely worded crap.

Yet because the games do have such scenes in them (not even anything really bad or explicit, either), they could be reclassified, and by association the relatively safe-for-work anime could potentially be affected and reclassified too, causing more problems further down the line.

I would call the part where Sakura and Shirou fuck like animals for three nights in a row, or Rin and Shirou going to down on Saber fairly explicit.

Oh so have I don't get me wrong. The average Nitro+ game alone has about 12 times the nightmarish violence than Nasu could come up with (although with less first person descriptions of being devoured). I'm just saying.

That's kind of the point. The bill would enable the Tokyo gov't to label anything they don't like as "harmful to minors." This isn't a fight over smut, it's about censorship.

Parents need to start taking responsibility, and stop blaming the media, tv, video games, etc. for their failures.

Its probably worth mentioning that there has been international pressure about this sort of thing scince japanese rape games and various flavors of NSFC doujins and anime started to filter out of japan via the internet.
