I can't think of a knifing occuring at my school, but then again, i live in England and attend a school which prides itself on its health and safety, average grades, etc. so violence is smacked down on pretty quick.
we did though, in one DT class when the teacher didn't turn up, throw compasses across the room at each other, me and some other lads this is, and when one of us got a direct hit in the palm of somebodies hand, we quickly stopped as it bled quite a bit and he moaned about how much it hurt.
Kids are just ignorant, its not their fault, they don't know what its like to be stabbed by a knife, they see movies (or anime's... or even games) where people get stabbed, shot and seem totally unharmed. I'm not blaming it on games, because obviously they've got to make it interesting in order for it to sell (i'd hate a game so realistic where you jump up by so much pricking yourself with a pin, then needing to apply a plaster or something). Its just Kids don't understand how much it hurts until it happens to them, which it hopefully won't do.
I've cut myself with a stanley knife before (in year 8), i did it on purpose to prove a point "that i wasn't a puff" (being the ignorant little prick i was/am) and i've got to say, it really doesn't half hurt... i don't think mine was even that deep a cut, but it still bled for an hour and hurt like hell.
But even then they don't understand, i know that if i'd have cried (which i fortunatly didn't), the people who spurred me to do it would only have taken more piss out of me. which they did anyway, they called me a loony because i cut myself.
you just can't win with some people.
