They did this at my junior high and high school in Canada and I was annoyed. Not because I eat chips or drink pop much, just that they were impeding our freedom of choice. To suspend this kid is stupid. He was taking initiative and giving his fellow students the ability to choose. Seriously, has anyone tried sun baked chips? They taste like shit. And they are a choking hazard due to having a texture similar to that of cardboard.

Its against school rules.

Thats the bottom line

I don't care if this parent doesn't agree with it. But enough parents do so that the school enforces this. Other parents don't want there children to eat this food. Bottom line.

As silly as it is. He deserves it.

The basic jist is that a child (aged 12) has been suspended from school for selling crisps to other pupils at a marked up rate (example stated 50p per bag). He was suspended after being caught several times selling crisps over a period of time. The pupil's father was known to sell crisps & other snack foods to pupils outside of the school, which had banned junk foods.

The father says that his son has been picked out & victimised, And the school itself have almost admitted this by saying "We have six to seven regular sellers we pinpoint".

Personally i think this is stupid. Not the fact that child had been suspended, but the fact that the school has banned those foods. At the end of the day if a parent decides their little timmy is to only eat a bag of cheese and onion, two chocolate bars & sausage roll for lunch, Then that is their decision. What right does the school have?

So, People of the escapist - What is your opinion?

(Note: Slight edit on the wording)

Edit 2: A crisp is what we call Potato Chips in the UK
You almost stole my catchphrase...
Anyway, On topic- I think it's wrong. He's a smart entrepreneur at such a young age and they're stunting that growth. The kid's a genius, leave him be.

Capitol punishment is definitely in order here. Expulsion followed by some time in juvi. And then tethering for the rest of his adult life and constant police observation. Criminals are coming in younger and younger packages these days.

I agree, but it depends if it was against the rules the first time he did it. He should have been punished the second time though.

That actually happened in my school just last week. 2 boys got suspended because they were selling soft drink cans and packets of chips for cheaper than what the school canteen sells them for.

Seems to be the trend.
This is bull crap. You know how the school could deal with this? They could lower prices, but no. The school that buys snacks by bulk in boxes can't lower their prices to deal with kids who would probably stop even if it was just that their profit wasn't coming in fast enough. If schools weren't greedy this wouldn't be a problem...

Well, when I start a thread, I say at the end "So, what say you, Escapists?"
And when I glanced at what you wrote, I thought you'd ripped off my catchphrase.
Anyway, they've still stunted the growth of a budding young entrepreneur.

I always put a final question on my threads, but i'd hardly call it a catchphrase.

But ill remember to use that in future. Thanks!

Need...next...fix...of...crisps....must...find....primary...school...kid.
Seriously the suspension is a bit harsh. Pokemon was banned at my school and the worst you got for having someone on you was a telling off and them being confescated. My nephews school keeps excluding him for behaviour he had before he had drugs for his ADHD and he would just play up to be sent home. Its a free holiday to kids, ok i would have cried but most kids would be like "woo a holiday for being naughty", suspension and exclusions are really naf punishments tbh. But anywho they could have punished him another way and seriously its crisps.

If the school's themselves want to stop selling and/or providing junk foods and unhealthy things is their decision. Go for it, good for them. Given they will loose a significant amount of money from not, they do have that option.

The way I am readin this though is that the school bans students from bringing them in to eat, let alone selling them. That is stepping over the line. A parent, and by extent child, should be allowed to send ad eat whatever they want. The only thing the school can do is stop providing them, they shouldn't ban them from entering the school.

But whatever, just my opinion versus some bull- bureaucracy...

If the kid wants to sell chips, he should work at a grocery store, not slang them for an exorbitant amount at school. That's like me selling a pencil to a student that needs one for $5 just because I can. It's called extortion, and in or outside of school, it's against the law.

they only do it because it means less people buy from the school so they lose money.
i think one person a year or two ago got suspended it was funny as the head of year came into the class got him to open hs back and it was bursting with junk food. and then said 'come with me'
the whole class was bursting out laughing.
something similar was that about 2 years ago salt was removed from the lunch hall.... except for the teachers table!!
