My niece watches all those laugh track-dubbed "bunch of teenagers inexplicably living without adult supervision" sitcoms on Nickolodeon, ABCFamily, whatever; and I don't think she notices this, but she never laughs or smiles or responds in any way to what she's seeing. She just stares, her face and posture devoid of any indication that she is enjoying what she sees. I think she's being tricked into thinking they're funny by that goddamned laugh track.
This...oh god this...the future generation is doomed, I have allready started building my bunker..

To be fair, my generation was no better. Go back and watch some show you thought was funny in the eighties. Like, for me, going back and watching Night Court, I cannot begin to comprehend why I thought it was ever funny, and I wonder how much of it was me being prompted by canned chuckles.

The laugh track was invented for a specific reason: to convince people to laugh along. TV kept it around for as long as they did because it works.

Still, if I was her father, I'd have thrown that fucking TV off the balcony the first time I got her doing her blank, parted-lips stare.

When I was a child, I...I...I thought Batman & Robin was a good film!
I was seven years old, don't judge me! And don't stone me to death either!

On the other hand, there's stuff I loved as a child but still enjoy now, just for different reasons. Such as Power Rangers.
Yes, it's stupid, campy, and incredibly cheesey, but it's still entertaining as hell.

How can they hold up really?
Nostalgia makes everything tinted until you rewatch. Then you have to remember that as a kid you were a very different person, had a very different way of thinking, had a limited number of experiences, and had developed thurough critical thinking skills. That and generally a child's attention span is different from an adults

Its sad but the older you get the more things you love become tired and uninspired I guess...then that stops and everything new sucks.

I noticed that avatar the last airbender holds up really well because it works on so many levels, which i think indicates a great kids show, one the parents can watch and enjoy too

Very true, and about everything, to address the title and the question respectively.

Yeah, Pokemon, YGO, Dragonball Z, virtually everything I watched as a kid. Especially this one joke in the Lion King (along with the whole movie, but anyway) that me and my brother spent about 10 minutes at one point just rewinding and playing we found it so hilarious. When I watched it again, I missed it completely, waiting for something funny to be said.

Well, I'd say that looking at something like Thundercats with a critical eye will definitely betray you. But there were a lot of adult entertainment from that age of less than stellar quality, too. Sure, there may have been great shows like Seinfeld and such here and there, but here is plenty of crap out there, even today.

Did you see anything of that Wonder Woman show that was cancelled? I saw a review over on TGWG by Nash, Linkara and Filmbrain. I can see why it was cancelled from what they had.

And, hey, it's not all bad. Thundercats 2011 was actually pretty good. And seeing as how it was based on the original, that should say something about the source material.

Yes, Digimon sucked. So did Beyblade when I look back on things and don't even get me started on Yu-gi-oh, the show I bought into...

<.<

But, to be fair to kids, adults liked Jersey Shore enough to let it last 6 seasons. 6 SEASONS!
S-Should I tell him that it was only canceled because it had a baby? Not because of bad ratings... I'm not sure he could handle the news... I don't want that on my conscience!

Ha! I watched Miyazaki movies and Tintin and Pixar! My childhood was awesome!

I have to add, that there are good movies and bad ones. The quality depends. Kids aren't an exception.

In fact kids don't have bad taste. It's teenagers who have the worst taste.

Back in the late 90's my favourite show was NASCAR Racers. It was NASCAR, but the cars had boosters in them, and the tracks were complex and had loops and right turns. But the characters were annoying, repeating the same catchphrases over and over and even the "good guys" would deliberately cause crashes.
HOLY SHIT THAT SHOW! GOD DAMN I HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT THAT IN YEARS!

Also, some of my friends still believe that the Digimon movie is awesome. I keep trying to convince that it's a crock of horseshit, but alas, it falls on deaf ears. Maybe it's because I never liked Digimon to begin with, mostly because I find the theme song very irritating. The Pokemon theme hasn't fared much better.

Spongebob is still the best kids' show ever.

So many things... so many things...

Let's just get the list going by saying "most of the cartoons from the 90s". I know Bob recently did an episode about Freakazoid, and I remember liking it, but I don't anymore. I can't stand to watch that, or much of Animaniacs... or any of Tiny Toons now that I'm fifteen years older.

Remember the Sonic the Hedgehog tv show? I remembered it fondly... until I watched it again. Do not do this, it's on Netflix right now, but turn away. Leave it in your memories, there are just some things you can't enjoy unless you're a child.

Kids suck. They're why Invader Zim got cancelled, and I will never forgive them for that, even though I was in Nick's target demographic when Zim first aired - shut up.

To answer the question, Recess. Such dildos.

Okay. Are you talking about Sonic show that was basically Loony Tunes, the one after that which had a story line and such, or the one where they're in a band?

I checked the air dates of all three of those shows so I can now safely say: "yes".

By the way:

The first one is called Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
The middle one is called Sonic the Hedgehog <--- This is the one I was talking about
The last one is called Sonic Underground.

I like Labyrinth much more, but I'm afraid to watch it again and see it was crappy. I'd rather keep my good memories.
For me, at least, Labyrinth is still awesome. Also, The Last Unicorn holds up very well.
I love The Last Unicorn! ^^ The only cringe factor would have to be that beatnik butterfly, but he disappears rather quickly. Now I have to go dig up the sheet music for piano and play the theme again.

I enjoyed a pbs show called 321 contact when I was younger. It had lots of science and archeology things. At the end of the episode, there was a bad spoof of Dragnet starring two mathematicians Monday and Tuesday who solve math crimes. I'm sure now I would be bored by how basic the information is and how cheesy it all is.

I didn't like zany stuff as a kid as I always viewed myself as above my peer group.

I watched most of the first seasons of both Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon not long ago. Those were my favorite shows when I was little; I learned math from Yu-Gi-Oh duels and reading from Pokemon games. Watching them again, I thought they were still pretty good, though I don't think you could say I was sober most of the time.
Yu-Gi-Oh was definitely a little shitty, but I thought it was interesting and I still think the first season at least was kind of creative with it's cards and there were a few memorable characters.
Pokemon is on an entire other level. I might be blinded by a raging nostalgia-boner, but I still love the first season of Pokemon and the first movie (with Mewtwo) is incredible. I still have some episodes on VHS, namely the first episode (which is the best of all things; take all of the things: this is the best one).
