Keep going...still a bit pumped actually

Prometheus grinned, his spirits lifting post battle. Watching Dan tussle with his apathy to battle was an age-old conflict that made Prometheus proud of humanity. In addition, he liked to see the boisterous son of Odin squirm. He decided to press.

"Pumped? After such a slaughter? Perhaps you should consider others; they may not be as de-sensitized as you."

Still, Prometheus did want to keep going. They didn't all need to come along, so perhaps those tired few could hang back. He decided to inquire about a backup plan. He tugged Stephen back inside as they ground to a halt outside the town. He wanted to know what was going on before it happened this time.

"Patience, Stephen. We'll sate that appetite soon enough."

"Remus; son of Mars the Tactician. There is a possibility the person were meeting won't help us. And another possibility that we may fall into a spot of trouble. I'd like to have a plan B before we get there. A shock team; a group that can distract her if we need to leave. Thoughts?"

Although Prometheus thought she would help, he had no idea the sphere of Dionysus influence, or her current feelings towards him and his group. If they had to leave, they would need to do so quickly, and get out of the area ASAP.

Nicole and Vera are going to be very handy.

"Pumped? After such a slaughter? Perhaps you should consider others; they may not be as de-sensitized as you."

"Is pissing off one King of Gods not enough for you, Titan?" Dan glared at Prometheus as he asked Remus for help. Was Mars an equivalent to Athena and Ares? Why was a demigod so unaware of all mythologies?

"Thoughts?"

"I already volunteered for advanced team, if we need that. Perhaps all of us shouldn't go, if we're hungry and sick..." Dan shrugged. If he had to take anyone, he'd take Andrew, Remus, and Steven, but perhaps that was just him...

"Remus; son of Mars the Tactician. There is a possibility the person were meeting won't help us. And another possibility that we may fall into a spot of trouble. I'd like to have a plan B before we get there. A shock team; a group that can distract her if we need to leave. Thoughts?"

Remus was amazed that Prometheus was asked him for strategic advice. While his father was certainly he tactician, he never believed himself to have inherited that trait. Complex thinking and planning always gave him headaches. Yet he had been put on the spotlight, and couldn't just cop out with a shrug without looking like an ass. "Just think of it liking hunting." he thought to himself. That seemed to help him cope with most problems.

He paused in thought for some time, then spoke up. "If we hear growling from the cave, it's time to run." he said, then clarified. "If you think visiting this person might end badly, everyone needs to keep their senses sharp. Have an eye out for any forewarning. Anything that would raise suspicion about Dionysus' influence being present. At the first scent of such auspices, we'd have to get out of there without a second thought. Stick around too long to make sure there's bones in the dirt and we're going to get fucked."

"As for the shock team...they'd have to be flashy. Able to throw around enough noise and light to both scare whatever threats we might meet and capture their attention away from the others. The others going in would have to be very observant, smart, for reasons I've already said. And everyone will need to be quick on their feet, able to act as needed without getting boggled down in thought."

"Flashy. That would be very handy indeed. You'll be in charge of them!" Prometheus gave him a wink and turned his attention to Dan. He found him cocky and arrogant, yet a nice reprieve from an otherwise passive adventure.

"I've tussled with Gods for thousands of years; don't think I can't crush you." He grinned at Dan; he meant no true threat or offense, but his violent, primal nature had flared in the presence of a war-like character. He wouldn't mind a few rounds with him when they had a break.

And a very open space.

"When we go in, I want Etna and Vera by my side. Not sure on the others, but Remus will be in charge of the shock troop. Dan and Able with me as well. Though Dan, you'll need to curb the attitude. She punished hubris unmercifully."

He brought the car to a stop a short walk from the rock. The sun was beginning to set, and cast the arid world around them in a pink-yellow hue. It was both beautiful and ominous. In ancient Greek tongue, he mumbled.

"At sunset, she wakes. Beneath the old stone. Mother of all..."

Steven glared at Prometheus for getting his name wrong. A small pet peeve of him, "It's Steven."

"How about loud?" Steven asked back to Remus, holding the shotgun, "This would scare a lot of things that are used to flashy displaces. Can actually be deadly as well if the situation calls for it. I would be not as useful for a fight in a tight canyon unless I can grapple with an enemy."

"I've tussled with Gods for thousands of years; don't think I can't crush you."

'Yet he needs me to fight Dionysus.... Now why didn't we say that out loud?' Dan felt himself sigh, perhaps he was afraid to fight a god. He decided to drop the bravado for now, wouldn't want to actually fight a god.

"Though Dan, you'll need to curb the attitude. She punished hubris unmercifully."

'... You were saying?'

"If you need me in the front, that's where I'll be." Dan said, and looked down to Aria. Was she asleep or half asleep? Either way, he wouldn't disturb her rest just yet...

"We should go soon, whatever our plan, though."

"My deepest apologies. Steven. And that shotgun will be very handy, especially given the nature of the cave."

Prometheus was sad Dan didn't meet the challenge. Perhaps he was being too mercurial. It had been a while since he had been forced to socialize.

"I agree. We should set out soon."

Prometheus beeped the horn several times, hoping to wake those asleep or groggy.

"Alright you lot. I want us all out of the van soon. We're going to split into two groups. Dan, Etna, Able, Vera; you're with me. Nicole, Andrew, Steven, Aria; you're with Remus. I'll be waiting outside to discuss the plan when you're all up."

He got out of the van and stared at the rock, a small glimmer of fear in his eyes.

The hug caught him off guard, not that he didn't like it. Able couldn't even tell you the last time a pretty girl had even shaken his hand. Under normal circumstances it probably would have left him blushing and flustered but this was far from normal and he was too tired to blush so he settled for being a little flustered (on the inside... as if that needed clarifying).

"So Able, I think most of us answered Aria's earlier question about our families, what about you? You have anyone back home?"

[Nah. Just my mum. Settling down wasn't my dad's style. But is it any of theirs? I don't remember any stories about Zeus stopping by for a weekend in the park with his kids.] Well there was the rest of his mother's sie of the family but they hadn't seen or spoken to each other in years. he still couldn't get a straight answer out his mum as to the reason behind it all. If he had to guess, he'd bet it was something to do with his dad or lack of. It did get him thinking about home again though. Perfect, let's just pile that on there too.

Hadn't Nicole mentioned something about her own family? No that was college, fianls or something right? It was an American term, he remembered that much.

The dmei-mobile trundled to a halt as they neared their destination. Ayers rock loomed in the distance, the only landmark of note for miles. On the bright side, I guess I got a free holiday.

Their hulking driver called out the plan, or at least their teams. So is this going to be another fight or what? Did Prometheus even know? Then it clicked. He was on the titan's team, he even felt a little glow of comfort in his chest at the thought of having a divine tank watching his back, until his next realization. That means we're going to the worst part. Who the hell are we going to see?

Andrew awoke to the sound of a loud horn, beeping several times. He sat up instantly, almost hitting his head on the window.
What? Where---

With a sigh, he remembered where he was. This time, he was almost happy to have been awakened. The dream he had been having was not a pleasant one, it was one that made him shiver to the core, making him feel empty inside.

"Alright you lot. I want us all out of the van soon. We're going to split into two groups. Dan, Etna, Able, Vera; you're with me. Nicole, Andrew, Steven, Aria; you're with Remus. I'll be waiting outside to discuss the plan when you're all up."

Great. I don't get what we're doing, but I'm supposed to be lead by the guy who don't even know how to act around a woman.

There was obviously something he was missing here. Not a surprise, seeing that he had been sleeping. He still felt like he had gotten far too little sleep, the stuffy air in the van didn't help. he walked out and yawned, leaning against the it. He thought back on that dream. Nightmare. It was a nightmare, right? Andrew wasn't completely sure, and that didn't help at all.

It had been about him, a few years later. Working on a good hospital, helping people, aiding them, and having a good position and better reputation. Respected, and hard-working, he saw a lot of patients a day. He could help everyone with his powers and skills combined. However, he didn't choose to do that. For whatever reason, every victim was a random choice, anything from an old lady to a young child. His victims. He poisoned them, slowly, or let them die from whatever plague he felt like giving them. They never died under his care, always as someone else's patients. The feeling at choosing and discarding lives made his blood rush. After all, in that dream, they had all been his. Their lives could be forfeited in the instance he wanted it.

Andrew felt as if he was going to be sick.

What the hell was that? It was screwed up. Damn it!

Had he not been leaning against the van, chances were he'd sit down. Just... sit down, and do nothing. It had been a horrible nightmare, yet he had not minded it before he woke up. Why?

I'm messed up.

He made sure to hide whatever he was feeling behind a forced smile. Anyone could see through it, but he'd rather they see that, than his true emotions.

Why would I even dream up something as fucked up as that? Man. Just... why would I not feel scared of crept out when I was dreaming it?

And he didn't feel disgusted, or worried, or angry or sad. He just felt empty and wrong. His own mind reminded him of the situation, and he pushed the emptiness away. There was no need think about this now, he had to do whatever he was supposed to do.

[Nah. Just my mum. Settling down wasn't my dad's style. But is it any of theirs? I don't remember any stories about Zeus stopping by for a weekend in the park with his kids.]

"Yeah, my mom stopped by occasionally when I was younger but her visits got more and more spread out as time went on," she said, hoping she didn't sound bitter, she didn't hate her mom after all she just had given up on trying to care.

The van soon arrived at its destination, and Prometheus split them into two teams apparently suspecting trouble of some sort. He had discussed this with Remus and Dan briefly during the drive, it seemed he was worried that their contact might be on the other side I hope not, been enough fighting for one day and I still don't know who they are.

At any rate she was on Remus's team, the strike force or distraction or whatever it was they were supposed to do. She grabbed a drink of water before getting out of the van, she wasn't feeling hungry otherwise she would have voted to stop, but she did feel like she ought to have something in her stomach to make up for the lost breakfast.

She turned towards Able before she moved over to her group, "Good luck," she said, putting a hand on his shoulder briefly. She felt like hugging him again but she wasn't sure if she should, instead she turned and walked over to where her group was assembling.

"How about loud? This would scare a lot of things that are used to flashy displaces." Remus turned his head to Steven and nodded in approval. Looking at his shotgun, the boy found himself wishing once again that he too had a firearm on hand. There were few problems that couldn't be deal with by his fists, but having a gun was still such a handy thing.

"Alright you lot. I want us all out of the van soon. We're going to split into two groups. Dan, Etna, Able, Vera; you're with me. Nicole, Andrew, Steven, Aria; you're with Remus. I'll be waiting outside to discuss the plan when you're all up." Prometheus seemed to think Remus the most responsible demigod in the room, if he was tasking him with being the one to save everyone's asses should things go to shit. Remus was feeling anxious. He'd never been burdened with leadership before and feared what might happen if anything went wrong. Despite his anxiety, he wasn't going to back down from this. People's lives were going to be in his hands now and he was going to make damn sure they wouldn't be at risk.

He took a look at each of the demigods assigned to him and exited the van. "Alright..." he said, turning to face them as they each left the vehicle. "I'll be on point." The easiest choice to make. There was no argument that he was best suited for that task of group meatshield. "Steven, follow up and keep me covered." The shotgun could help dispatch any threat that he couldn't fix with his hands. "Andrew, stick close in the middle." Best to have the medic placed where he get to any other team member quickly. "Aria, keep on eye on our flanks." Remembering some of the magic she displayed, Remus realized she be able to cover the rest of the group well enough. "And Nicole, keep by the rear and jump in to assist anyone who's in trouble." He told himself it was because she would be fast enough with her wings and athletics to move about as he pleased, but subconsciously he knew it had more to do with trying to keep her out of harm's way. "And everyone stay sharp as knives. Lives may depend on it."

It really was Remus who was the leader of the group. And he took the job very seriously, telling people what do.

"Andrew, stick close in the middle."

Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

It didn't seem like anyone was getting out of this, so telling them that he was exhausted wasn't likely to get him out of this. How annoying, hadn't he done enough in one day? He had most likely saved Prometheus life, and helped Steven avoid months of recovery by mending his bones. Not that he liked that Steven was getting sent out either, the man was still not completely well. However, this was some sort of super-dangerous mission, from how Remus spoke. It annoyed him, if Remus didn't manage to speak about it in a calm matter, then the rest would probably be all nervous about it too.

"And everyone stay sharp as knives. Lives may depend on it."

Doesn't feel like it. It feels more like a chore.

At least it was something to occupy his mind with. That was something Andrew needed right now. He smiled a lot more naturally, and made sure his voice sounded confident despite the words he was going to say. There was no trace of fear or nervousness. Hopefully, that would calm the others down a bit. He said:

"Okay, lead the way, and I'll follow. Please be careful, though, I don't know how much more healing I can do today."

Not a lot. And I'd rather keep some of that in case I get hurt.

"It'll be fine, though."

Unless you lead us all into a trap, and let us get killed one by one, then I can't do anything at all. So don't be a brute for a while.

"Good luck."

You too. He nodded back.

Everyone was filing out of their ride, stretching their legs and gathering into their assigned groups. From what he'd overheard onboard the other group was going to be the 'shock troops'. Abe had to admit that, looking at them, none of them seemed very pleased about it. Who in their right mind would?

Got off the van and moved to an open patch of ground to wait for Prometheus and any kind of speech or orders he'd want to give.

"Yeah, sure." She half-mumbled to Prometheus's orders and exited the van.

She was assigned to the team of hugs and cuddles it seemed. Could be worse. There was nothing to do but stretch a bit. Etna disliked long rides, especially long rides in hot weather. Then she realised that the ones doing the hugging and cuddling were on different teams. Oh well. Not like it made a difference to her. Etna followed the oh-so-talkative one (she was glad that she didn't have anything as bad as that because of her heritage.) and give a slight wave to him, "Guess you're stuck with me. It's Etna."

It felt awkward talking to a mute. 'Could be worse,' she kept reminding herself.

"And everyone stay sharp as knives. Lives may depend on it."

Nicole had never been much for strategy so she was hardly about to question their positions, although she did wonder why she was at the back. What can I do back there? I mean I doubt any of us can do much from that position. She nodded in understanding though and moved to what she figured would be the back of the group.

Out of the members in the group Andrew seemed the most calm, I guess he's used to dealing with stress at his hospital. He did say he couldn't do much more healing today though, hopefully he managed to get some of his strength back from the nap he took in the car.

Steven walked forward shotgun in hand, loaded with buckshot and followed Remus, eyes constantly shifting around them.

"Does anyone want my pistol?" Steven asked as they walked forward, "It isn't much use just sitting in my holster."

Dan left the van after a quick promise to help Aria's group if they needed it. He was a bit ashamed of his white knight behavior, but he figured the act was more symbolic than anything else. She could certainly protect herself, probably the rest of her group as well...

"Keep your pistol, if you run out of ammo you'd be fucked. Besides, I'm pretty okay with my spear." Dan took his place near the front of his group, as he readied his spear once more.

Aria just exited the Van after the abrupt wake up call, she stretched, and went over to Remus and listened to his plan 'Still tired, fantastic, guess we shoulda stopped for a burger or something' she thought and just nodded in reply to Remus's plan. 'Why are we getting into fighting formations though? I thought they where gonna help us' she continued thinking.

Prometheus stood between the two groups and spoke.

"Alright. In front of us, though you may not see it, is a cave. There's a short tunnel with a few bends that links it to the outside. My group are going to go through first, following the tunnel. Remus; your group needs to be 3/4 the way through. That way, if it goes south, you can jump in, "blind" her, and we all run for our lives."

He took a deep breath and turned to his group. For a suspicious group of young adults, they were extremely brave. Or maybe they just had no idea who they were up against. He couldn't tell them; he needed them.

"My group; we will walk side-by-side into the chamber. When we get there, do as I do. Kneel when I kneel, stand when I stand. Avert your eyes when she speaks. I want Dan and Able flanking Etna and Vera; myself in the middle. Understood?"

With that, he left the group and walked up to the rock. He placed his hand against the red mountain and pressed, his fingers sparking fire, pressing the rock door open. It was light inside; unnaturally light.

He shrugged and called over, trying to be light-hearted.

"Ready?"
