The real, key problem with these games is the same problem with most any edutainment: the goal isn't to have fun but to educate. Further, the games are in the hands of moral guardians; anything that might enhance the game and make kids want to learn is too objectionable and must be barred. People still remember Oregon Trail for no better reason than that you got to name your characters, who subsequently died of cholera, and got to write your own tombstone.

Yes, a survival horror game during the apocalypse would be neat, but that would involve actually depicting the apocalypse, which would surely destroy young minds. Yes, you could make a strategy game around conquering Canaan, but no lessons would be taught. Or you could have the main character be a Christian and show kindness and generosity to others, but that would either be boring or fail to match the Soldier of God thing they're going for these days.

So, Bible Trivia's all they got, but even that's fraught with peril. For instance: David returned Goliath's _____ to Saul to prove he had defeated the giant.
ooh ooh the Answer is Head. Goliath's Head :D

Do i get a cookie or a holy wafer?

Although I gotta admit that a survival apocolypse game does ound like one hell of a game

It'll be a cookie. Holy wafers are a Papist innovation.

Funny thing being if there was any Islam themed games thered be an uproar

gotta love double standards ;)
There wasn't that much uproar when Assassin's Creed came out, was there? To be fair, they did put that "multicultural" disclaimer at the beginning.

I guess the biggest uproar for any Islamic themed games would be the stuff around Six Days in Fallujah or Medal of Honor...

Still, I don't think if a game was created to teach the positive values of Islam it would create an uproar. I honestly don't. In fact, I think it would be a good tool to teach people how Islam ISN'T just about violence, just like these games are supposed to show people that Christianity and Judaism aren't about violence either.

Christian Gaming Company Goes "Deep and Wide" more than expected for its Christian themed Mouse With the tagline, "Do you want Good, Clean, Fun in your house?" Left Behind Games aims to entertain kids and adults betraying their Christian values. The company is a self-described "leading pioneer in the new genre of countries like Australia, South Africa, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
All I can think of when reading the good clean fun bit is a piece involving two skunkettes.. Anyway this is hardly surprising; There is a latent market for video games amongst christians and naturally there's going to be businesses that will want to tap into it.

You can slap a "christian" label on anything and sell it to a bunch of people who need to know God pre-approves their choices. You can have media that expounds Christian morality without saying it's of a "Christian" genre, and most of the good stuff does. Now, that's not to say these games suck, just that I'm not surprised they sell and I wouldn't be surprised if the "christian" label is the only reason.

Going "Deep and Wide" for "Good, Clean, fun in your house" could this statement contain any more innuendo?

So? There are Christian knockoffs of DDR and Guitar Hero out there too. The people who want them get them, and those who don't care or don't know they exist don't. Everyone goes home happy and no one's ideologies are changed.
wait a game where Jesus has a band and battles the devil with the power music? ... i must buy that. if there was a chuck norris vs jackie chan music game i would buy that too.
Haha! I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be anything so stellar: www.guitarpraise.com

Since I'm too lazy to read through this whole thread to find out, is anyone else thinking that we need to package these games up and ship them to Yahtzee for disembowelment? And last I checked, I'm pretty sure the Bible didn't have any commandments against "killing" a fictional being that only exists as a bunch of code, so I'm not sure why there's such a problem.

I don't understand the relevance of this story...

I heard Miniclip.com was on the lookout for more flash games.

I wonder what the special editions will include?

A ticket to heaven or some holy water?

OT: They can make thier games but it will never reach the sales that Mass Effect or Halo accomplished.

You act like Christian Metal doesn't already exist.

On topic: I've actually played the first game in this series. No kidding. (It was at my uncle's house and I was intrigued by the idea.) It's not a bad game actually. It's not great in any way, but it's not buggy or technically flawed in any way. either. It was kind of boring since it was simply more of the same stuff you've already played, but just skinned with a post-apocalyptic Christians vs. Anti-Christ and his army theme. You try to convert folks who aren't already siding with the Anti-Christ, and they'll make a decision there, and they go to either your side or the Anti-Christ's. Shoot anyone on the Anti-Christ's side.

Kind of bland RTS game. As I said, it's not anything new, but it's not broken, either.

you're not so far from the truth:

lol martyrdom is an important "cultural" aspect...
"it opposes violence and terrorism" ROFL !

We're in a war of ideas.

all "wars of ideas" are just wars of money and power dressed up in a wierd way
Indeed Most of them are, but not "all" of them.

Well, you know it's wholesome and clean. And that probably makes it boring.
I joke. I'm sure they're pretty decent if they're selling more copies.
