Is it just me, or are people discussing religions while not discussing God/gods/deities/reincarnations etc that they are based on?

Just looking at it from a religious point of view for a microsecond (pleasedontkillme), maybe, just maybe, it has survived persecution, scandal, oppression, etc for almost two thousand years, and continues to be the world's largest religion, because God is helping it along?

Also, I personally believe in it because I've seen two solid objects move through each other, and went to WYD which completely changed my life, which wouldn't have happened if not for many improbable things (my surname starting with C, looking to the right just before I stopped looking, one asshole sitting next to me in science in year 10, the list literally goes on and on and on.)

"why is Christianity so famous?"
Because Western civilization has by and large permeated the entire world by now, and for a long portion of its history, speaking out against the Christian god got you executed in a horrifying manner. Centuries of persecution will make anything famous.

Agnosticism answers if we can know. Do you know if there is a god? No. Absolutely not. Everyone who is sane is an agnostic.
"If God exists, he is infinitely important. If God does not exist, he is of no importance. The only thing God cannot be is of moderate importance." CS Lewis I believe.

Also, I do believe you just called the vast majority of the world insane, or at least un-sane. "HEY EVERYONE, IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW MY POINT OF VIEW YOU ARE NOT SANE!"

I'm not talking from a point of interest, i mean, like King Henry the VIII, seven wifes and basically being a tyrant got him glued into the history books forever, its ok to study and learn about the Tudor times, but we don't reenact them. So why does Christianity take the minds of so many people. Though all things considered, I'm going to simply go with how simple Christianity is to follow, any half-wit can learn about the basics, whereas it would take fairly intelligent people to bring back Paganism (I'm talking about its practical points)

Exactly the same as yours. Christian is very boring and if anyone knows why it's so popular I would love to know.

But I know why I don't beleive. It's hard to take a religion serious when the main evil guy works for the good guy.
I think Christians forced on people with war? and the romans sorta helped with it aswell.

I guess it shows that you really believe in the religon it doesn't matter if it's boring or not.

Practice atheism? Atheism is a term for someone who simply doesn't believe.

I just believe you have to be a generaly good person, but I don't believe in Hell (I only play on Normal and Nightmare) and that everything in the Bible is writen history. It's just a bunch of stories telling you how to be a better person. But I believe in something like a God, but not an almighty Divine being, just a hyper intelligent being who makes the universe exist. Or maybe God is the universe itself? Or maybe he is just a bunny who....

Exactly. i was reffering to people trying to force there atheism on religeous people in the same way that religeous people do on non believers.

I'm agnostic and I'm not too fussed about Chrisitianity. I went to a Catholic primary school, so I had a lot of it crammed down my throat as I wasn't Catholic, but, in general, I don't mind Christians. They tend to be nice people.

People who try to force their beliefs onto me annoy me. When I was in school, it didn't so much, because I was a kid and didn't care for religion, but now, if people try and offload their beliefs onto me, I always ask for a properly explained reason and counter-argument, which stops them for a while. Its always an interesting discussion if they do manage to do that, though.

I believe in God and Jesus and et cetera because they exist. That's my opinion. I can't really understand people who say "I don't like Christianity, it's too misogynistic." So? If it's true it's true, if it isn't it isn't. If you like it or not has nothing to do with it.

Ahh, i thought you were going on the lines that Atheism was a form of religion.

The reason that Christianity was founded was for the governments to exert control over the people. The same goes for Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, etc. The reason that those religions are still around is, surprise, the exact same reason they were founded. Do you really think militia groups in the Middle-East could get suicide-bombers without the promise of a great reward after death? Or that those TV Evangelists could keep getting people to donate without the threat of eternal damnation?
What a deliciously bigoted statement.

Do you really believe that? How is a religion that endorses love and peace among mankind a tool for governmental control? Half of the Old Testament is talking about the Israelites being oppressed by an evil regime; not exactly "control" material.
Oh no, you have seen through my delicately woven disguise and unveiled me for who I really am! *Le gasp*

But I do partly believe that Christianity, especially catholicism, was used as a tool by the church and in part by the government to help control the masses. It's evolved past that now as we have the media for our subliminal messaging (much more effective, if I do say so myself)

God only tells you he loves you to get you into bed with him ;)

But no, really, I don't worship or believe because there's just not enough evidence for me. I don't deny any God's existence because I don't have the proof, but I don't accept for the same reason.

To me religion is far too 'human'. Everything is written by humans, for humans, and as such it is flawed. If God gave me an undeniable sign that he existed I would quite happily congratulate him on creating such a diverse world, perhaps give the sky a little wave and in general continue my life as it is now but in the knowledge there was a God. Worship is a human made thing. If I had created something like this world, I'd much prefer people to enjoy it every day rather than spending time indoors bowing to a statue of me.

So, in general:

If there is a God: Thank him, live life and enjoy the world he created.

If there isn't: I'm enjoying the world, and my life as it is.

It's pretty much a win-win.

It was adopted by the Romans...
So? The aqueducts changed the lifes of Romans but evolved, the Corvus changed naval battle but evolved.
We still have their law and democracy, why is it a mystery that we still have their religion?

I have a question: Why do atheists seem to pick on Christianity the most? (I just don't notice you guys talking about Judaism or Islam, like, ever. They're all rather similar.)
'Cause it's the most common I suppose, all the Creationists I see on Youtube are Christians, I only saw two non-Christian Creationists who were Muslim (and one maintained that the Earth was flat). And also it's the one people are most familiar with, I know next to nothing about Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and so on so I'm guessing that's the deal with most American or British Atheists who flame others.
