People that claim that all smokers are nasty and smell are coming from a place of igniorance and are most likely inexperienced with smoking or are just haters.
Yeah, keep dreaming buddy, if you smoke you have to deal with the fact that the stench from your cigarette smoke is going to hang around your clothes, thats the way it is. Dont like certain people bitching about it, dont smoke around those people.

I'm not buddy, guy

But seriously there is something called ventillation, or driving with the window down. I used to smoke regularly and absolutely nobody had any idea if they didn't know me well or were just getting to know me. Carry gum or mints and after every cigarette wash your hands and smoke outside or in a well ventilated area and the smell problem is damn near non exhistant.

@chefassassin2 : Mock/Belittle is just a matter of disrespect mostly. They disrespect my liking for clean air to breathe, I disrespect their habit. I don't pee in your pool, you don't fill my air with smoke. Reciprocal altruism and all that.
That's why I made the comment about asking a smoker to move away or put it out completely, in a polite manner. Just because people smoke, it doesn't mean they're delibrately trying to disrespect you. As I've said, most smokers will react politely and leave where you are or just put their smokes out, if approached politely. I smoke, and I try not to be around anywhere where the smoke miight annoy non-smokers, out of respect that smoke isn't everyone's cup of tea. However, Just the other day, I was smoking and a group of people came over and asked if I wouldn't mind moving, because they were filming a scene for a school project. I did them one better and put it out, even though I had just lit it. If someone approaches me and rudely tells me they don't want the smoke around them, I'll ignore the crap out of them. Respect. Works almost every time.

EDIT: Also, just because I smoke, I'm scum? That's a harsh way of looking at it.

I agree with the OP here. I'm not a smoker, but it's their business and everyone else needs to STFU about it.

The only exceptions are when they're smoking right in front of the door to a public building. I'd probably ask em to either put out the cig or move out a ways if I'm going through that door again in the near future. It's just incredibly annoying to walk out a door and get blasted with a cloud of smoke, especially when there's signs "No smoking within 20 feet" that the smokers are leaning on (which happens all the time at my school).

Cigarette smoke makes me nostalgic so I don't even mind, but I don't smoke at all.

I don't care if people smoke as long as they don't do it excessively and not inside, outside is fine. But if it's people I care about, of course I'm going to see if they want to quit then, if they want to, help them. If the person is a stranger, I just don't care.

I mostly leave smokers alone, but if they grab me and try to choke me with their tongue, I usually kill them dead.

Buh dum kish.

Anyway, I know that whenever I tell someone that smoking is bad for them, I do it to annoy them, and possibly get them to put out their cigarette, because I find the practice and the smell absolutely disgusting.

I have a friend who I'm pretty sure doesn't want me to know he smokes. I think it's funny how self-conscious he gets about it. I really don't care, I mean sure it's bad, but I'm not about to stop his fun. I've never smoked, but I REALLY LIKE the way it smells. The only time I've told a friend to stop was when she picked up an old butt dropped by a hobo and started to smoke it. That's a little extreme.

The only people I'd say that to are the people I really care about, and there's only one person I care about enough to say that to that smokes. She already knows where I stand, and is quitting.

Personally, unless the person is a doctor and on the job, if a stranger said that to a friend of mine, I'd tell them to fuck off. It's none of their business.

So I see where the OP is coming from, even though I'm 100% against smoking.

By the way, it's unhealthy for yo-- *punched* X_O

I do not care about smoking in any way whatsoever. This includes the smell and the smoke. Puff away, near me or away from me, I have no shits to give.

I'm a smoker, I admit it's disgusting and dangerous....TO MYSELF. There is no 100% proven evidence that 2nd hand smoke is bad. I try to be polite when smoking, out of the path of people, usually out of sight so I don't get in the way of others. Last time someone said smoking was bad for me, I replied with "Show me the evidence, no statistics, I want 100% solid evidence that smoking is bad for me.".

I show respect to non-smokers, why do they show no respect to me?

People blowing smoke onto people is Rude, straight up.
If i see kids coming down the sidewalk while im smoking i'll wait for them to pass before I take another pull.
I also agree with the smoking ban, I've only ever smoked outside, cause i dont want my house to smell, and I carry listerine packs with me to not have smokers breath.

the golden rule is, "it's your smoke, not everyone elses, keep it that way"
Same here.
I smoke outside, dont smoke around non-smokers and carry mints and a tiny tiny little bottle of hand wash for after I smoke.

But if anyone runs up to me when Im outside, making sweet love to a pack of Lucky Strikes and tells me to stop what Im doing because it'll kill me... I look them dead in the eye and say
"You better stop what YOUR doing, cause Im going to kill you".

I only pester smokers about their habits when I am locked in a car with them in the winter with the windows rolled up and a long voyage ahead of us.
If it's my car, tough luck, you can always walk.
If it's not my car, it's up to the owner and I have no problem stopping every half hour to pop out for a smoke.
If the driver/owner won't allow for cig-breaks, tough luck for me, I either take my own car or not go wherever you guys are going.
Dude. Not to sound like a prick, but that sounds desperate.
Well, I am an addict. An hour without a smoke is trying, unless I'm asleep of course. More than 2 hours is torture.

If anyone smokes too close to me I rip the filter straight off the damn cigarette, or just snatch it from there mouth if I'm in a bad mood, I don't mind if they stay downwind of me and I don't have to breath in the damn things.

I have nothing against people smoking, but I have a lot against the smoke.

It costs £5bn a year for Britain's Healthcare according to new statistics, the majority of that (£2.5 Bn) is spent on cardiovascular illnesses. Comparitively, tax on cigarettes puts money in the region of millions back into out economy, therefore Economic Cost > Economic Gain.

Oh yeah, and the smoke kills people slowly :/

Smoking may be your choice, but smoking is damaging the country as much as it damages you.

It's a wonder that 2nd hand smoke HASN'T been proven to harm until now, I mean, think about it, it is the same smoke, that you have just breathed out, people get high off second hand WEED smoke, so cigarettes must have an effect when breathed in from someone else.

EDIT: There are quite a few people who are naturally just trouble makers and like confrontation, e.g trying to stop you smoking, but there are also those who care about their country's medical system (I'm from England, smoking is killing the NHS along with obesity), and the sad fact of the matter is, there are a very FEW smokers over the years that have defied science and lived to about 100 with no smoking-related illness, but the rest, who wait for proof, eventually get it in the form of something terminal. Its just unfortunate that in the case of smoking, the only time you will be sure that smoking is bad for you with solid evidence, is when you're dying from it, or severely impaired at any rate.

To me cigarettes are exactly the same as chocolate, heroin, and spinning around really fast and falling over.I beleive people have the right to kill themselves in whatever manner they chose.
