Has anyone here played? If yes, have you lost sleep over it?

I bought it today, started playing at 2 this afternoon, and I just found out it was 3 in the morning. And I never stay up late if I can help it. 'Holy Shit' was the first thing that crossed my mind when I looked at a clock. Am I the only one who's had this happen to him/her while playing this game?

It's a great awesome game, but I just might have to burn it out of fear of catching WoW syndrome... :)

Never played 4 unfortunatelly, but I used to play Civ 2 like mad crazy.
I lost more than just a few hours of my life on that game.

I couldn't stop playing it. Its a good game for when you can't sleep and you just want something to pass the time. Unfortunately you mostly lose track of time, which has happened to me multiple times.

Yeah it's an incredible game. I played the new Civ Revolution for the Xbox and it just made me want to go back and play some more Civ 4.

Tell me, though... if I am bombing the ever-loving crap out of an increasingly-tiny nation (confliction of terms? I dunno.) How do they manage to pull enough of their leprotic, irradiated populace out of their ruined cities to vote themselves into a Diplomatic Victory?

Is that the one for the 360? I was wondering about that game but with no previous knowledge of the other titles I was unsure weather to get it or not.

*I'm an attention whore cough*

Anyhow, I think we've all that experience with any iterations of the Civ series. Civ is a demanding, demanding mistress who ***** slaps you every time you try to sleep, with the promise of new tech, or a kickass new unit being churned out in about 3 turns or so.

What Civ does really well is dangle a carrot in front of a players face. There's always something just on the horizon that's worth staying up for.

Oh man, I have spent way too long on it. Xfire shows that I have 400+ hours (obviously less than because it only tracks when I'm on) between the civ4 and its two expansions. But yeah, I'm always going:

Ok, in 3 turns I complete a wonder, then I'll go to bed
Ok, in 4 turns I will take this city, then I'll go to bed
Ok, in 2 turns I am getting a great person, no way in hell am I going to bed now
Ok, in 7 turns, another wonder
etc.
etc.
etc.
HOLY CRAP! I need to go to work in 2 hours! Damn!

YES! Thats exactly what happens to me! I hate when you dont realize what time it is and then you have to be at work or have class or SOMETHING in like 2 hours. Uhg, games are evil creatures that love to toy with me keeping me up all night and then watch me squirm as I realize that tomorrow (today actually most of the time) is going to be hell.

I watched my friend play Civ4. Unfortunatelyl the computer/laptop we were playing on was crap so the save feature didn't work and it was extremely laggy, but we were ordering eachother on what to do the whole time. Oh memories.

Computer fanyboisms aside for a quick sec, would it be worth it trying to aquire it on the 360? The other RTS's on consoles are just plain terrible but this should be so much better because of the turn base system.

Totally, but wave goodbye to a few weeks. :)

A certain female friend of mine always nagged me about playing games to the earlier hours; until one night I woke up at 6am to find her still playing.

It's always 'just one more turn'.

I played a bit of the demo. It was a tad confusing to dive into straight away. I tried to attack Egypt and they stole my base instantly. The tutorials (if not, many hours toiling away does the same trick) should teach me the ropes. Also, the constant pop ups with people speaking in Sim talk annoyed me a little. Overall it looks like it could be good fun expecially if I want to play out my 'All powerful harsh dictatorship!' fantisies.

And remember, vote for a better reign in this upcomming Escapist Elections; Vote PurpleRain

I used to play civIII a lot. I later decided it wasn't healthy to spend 8 hours on a game with out realising how long it had been then try to stand out and start to black out. I gave revolution a go it really seems they dumbed it down for the console market. they also felt the need to sex-ify the female world leaders, look at a comparison of Catherine the Great between CivIII and Revolution.

I play this game and TF2 almost exclusively. They balance each other well. If Medieval II was a little more in-depth I'd probably have that in my rotation too.

Yes, I've lost countless hours of sleep over the "just one more turn" disease.
