The man shrugged and started to speak when a walkie-talkie on a nearby table sprang to life. "Onyx, are you there?" Said the little talkbox. The man walked over and pressed the button "I'm here, boss." He responded. There was a moment of silence before the man responded "Alright. do you have the egg?" the talkbox queried "Yeah. where do you want to meet?" The man known as Onyx queried. "Downtown market, site B." Replied the talk box "Understood." Was all Onyx said before setting the walkie-talk back down. He looked to the group "You can follow me or stay here. Either way there's likely to be a fight."

Hammond winced in pain as he pushed himself up from his chair, putting his sword into the ground and leaning his weight onto it. "Yeh, yeh, you'd like us to stay here, wouldn't you? That way you can get your boss to level the house while we wait patiently for you." He tapped his head knowingly, "Well think again sunshine. You have to wake up pretty early in the morning to get one over on a Bastia."

The thief shrugged. "Whatever..."

Hammond, somewhat deflated by the apathy in the thief's statement, wrapped his hand again around the top of his sword-cum-cane and then the 5 of them set off in search of the downtown market.

[hr]

Nowhere in particular, ~30 minutes from the market

He painfully trotted along, a sword acting as a cane in one hand and a deceptively strong woman in the other. "Aren't you worried?" A voice spoke up beside him, from the woman carrying him along. "About it being a trap, I mean?"

Hammond would have shrugged, but it was hard to when you were using your shoulders as an integral part of your walking, so he simply answered. "Not really... We have the advantage of numbers."

She frowned, uncertain of this advantage, "Maybe... I just think it might be better to split up, just in case it is a trap. It couldn't hurt."

He nodded, which was a far easier action for him. "Fair enough. If we have two in front and two to hang back with your pets, that should prepare us for an ambush."

"Good plan."

"Of course it's a good plan. I made it." He smiled as he hobbled along, ignoring the glaring stupidity that was all of his failed plans and idiotic backfires along their journey caused by him and the fact that it was mostly Ari's plan.

Eh, somewhat lacking...

Hammond looked around, as if an indeterminate amount of thought had just gone into something and then had vanished in an instant. To be succinct, he was confused. He decided that any questions about this would be rendered moot though, since the only people who could answer would be a two-bit thief, a woman who was decidedly less-than-all-there, a Beastmaster and Savannah. And why would he value any of those answers?

His legs hurt. Never mind the fact he had to walk with Ari holding him up and a cane, obviously the cure for him was a whole load more walking. Hammond loves walking, without even the most subtle hint of sarcasm at all, and he wouldn't like to stab the guy who made them walk this far either. Nope. Hammond definitely wouldn't like to stab him in both kneecaps and then see how he liked walking to somewhere on the other side of the town for no discernible reason. And he really wasn't practicing his stabbing technique with his sword/cane.

"Stop fiddling like that," The voice came from beside him, from Ari, the woman who was helping him walk, "or you can find someone else to stop you falling over."

In quick reply, the sword went back to patting along the ground in time with his limping.

A few moments of silence went by before he felt the urge to complain again. "Seriously, when the fuck do we get there? I'm absolutely sure we've been past this bar 3 times already."

Being held hostage is not on Naz's agenda. Naz is supposed to be in his village returning with meat from the hunt. They will assume he is eaten and elect that scum Dervin as clan huntsman. All he may do now is wait and see.

Savannah looked with a hint of indignation at Aricla.

"My name, Ms. Aricla, is not 'Green Man'. I would very much prefer if you were to call me Mr. Savannah."

With that, he looked over to the safe at the side of the road. He opened up his briefcase and produced a conspicuous-looking metal object with a hook. Closing the case again, he told Aricla to keep careful hold it and handed it over.

He walked over to the safe, picked it up and brought it back.

"This may take some time," he commented before devoting his full attention to the locking system.

Hehe. Ride her cat. Hammond chuckled softly at Ari's comment, his mind replacing words to make his own hilarity, before his mind went to monster naming. It was a semi-decent distraction, so he entertained it for a while. A name... A name... What the hell does one name a cat monster thing? Steven? Gregory? Percival? Geoff? Tuffles? Meowsy McStrangething?

Wow, people are so lucky I don't name things more often.

Would it be egotistical to call it Hammond? Wait, would I even want to be associated with this thing by name? I could probably name it after what's his face...? Magnis? They're both pretty brutish and stupid. They both walk around naked as well.

Why am I even thinking about this seriously? I'm going to suggest a name and Ari is going to shoot it down. She's only given me this task to distract me anyway.

His mind stayed silent for a moment, seemingly trying to make some other sentence that continued the conversation.

So Geoff's a good name, right?

Click.

Even easier than I had expected, Savannah thought as he opened the safe.

Vorp! went the safe as it promptly vanished. Savannah stumbled a little due to the sudden loss of the heavy object. "What-" he began, before clearing his throat and composing himself. He looked to Aricla and simply said,

"That is not the strangest thing to happen this week."

Shrugging it off as another never-to-be-explained oddity, Savannah went to Hammond and whispered,

"Any thoughts on a plan?"

Considering that his last plan involved them going to a marketplace and that this inn was nothing like where he had planned to be, Hammond admitted that a new plan would be good.

He couldn't really think of one though. He looked to the thief, who seemed content with going in right about now, and than back at Savannah, keeping his voice low to not draw the thief's attention. "No idea what we're up against, do I? Even if I had a plan, it'd be a bit useless..."

He took a brief look to the inn before speaking softly to both Savannah and Ari. "How about you two go take a look around the back of this place? I'll stay here with these two." He subtly indicated the thief and CMT. "Don't take too long though. Once the thief gets inside, after I've tried to stall him, we'll have lost all trace of him. He could be conspiring our deaths the minute he gets in and I'd rather like for you guys to get back here on time to help me continue living."

Suddenly, Hammond started laughing loudly, indicating for them both to do the same so that the thief didn't become suspicious, and then unwrapped his arm from around Ari, leaning onto his sword so that he didn't fall.

An odd tidbit, but why do you guys rely on Hammond to make plans? Is it just a case of "So stupid, it's brilliant" in every single thing he does or am I just far better at planning than I give myself credit for...?

Anyway, Savannah and Ari have to make an excuse to leave now and Hammond has to get used to standing on his own and stall for a bit of time. And maybe an insertion of randomness from Em?

Savannah looked about worriedly.

"We were expecting a friend to be here by now. If you would excuse us, we," he said, indicating Aricla, "will be leaving to check on them. Good day, sir," he finished with a courteous nod.

He turned and walked away, around the corner of the inn.

There, he whispered to Aricla,

"We need to find a way to look inside."

It took only a few moments to locate a fairly high window with a trellace.

"Ms. Aricla, will you be able climb that?" he asked, pointing to the window, then added "Quickly?"

[small]"She's never up on time for these things..."[/small] He was quietly cursing Em, godawful laze-about that she was, for not being here. Not only because it would make Savannah and Ari's excuse slightly more plausible but because he actually would prefer her to be here. Her talents, along with those knives of hers, would make getting inside far easier and getting noticed far less likely. [small]"Probably still drooling herself to death in bed, I bet..."[/small]

But then he shifted from the sword to his less-worse leg, thinking of ways to stall the thief and buy his friends and Savannah[footnote]Just to stay IC, of course. It's strange enough that Hammond considers Ari and Em anything more than necessary annoyances.[/footnote] more time. He had no idea what to say but if he didn't say something soon the thief would just walk in without him having done anything at all.

"...Hello?"[footnote]Always a good conversation starter, if I do say so myself.[/footnote]

Hammond's usually infallible wit failed him. He searched his mind for topics of conversation but, suddenly, his mind drew the blankest blank in the entire history of blanks; completely devoid of anything that may even attempt to help him continue stalling the thief. He knew he would be able to think of something if only his leg didn't hurt so goddamned much, but that hardly helped him right now.

Predictably the thief started to walk away. Well done Hammond. You certainly fucked that up. He sat down upon a nearby wall to allow his leg to heal.

While doing so he wondered how they were coping inside the building. He hoped that they had managed to already get into the building and find something with which to occupy themselves. He also wondered when exactly his next role in this plan would come into play.

As he waited, a large lizard stumbled past him, hauling an equally large cart. It stopped and gazed at him for a moment, with it's eyes that swivelled in their sockets as though they were about to drop out, and then it began to toddle off away from him. But, before it went away completely, it let out a loud and entirely unpleasing fart in Hammond's direction.[footnote]Luckily for the lizard, Hammond could not catch up to him and force a beam sword up the offending sphincter, try as he might.[/footnote] It quickly stomped away, knowing the trouble that lay in store for it if it stayed in the same place as Hammond.

"Oh, yeh, that's pleasant..." His nasally complaints were left unheard by men, but he complained anyway. [small]"Fucking useless, giant lizards..."[/small]

Savannah decided to try and enter the inn via another route. He called up to Aricla as loudly as he deemed appropriate to tell her this and went to the corner of the inn. He leaned his head round to see two armoured guards, one carrying a broadsword, one with a beam axe.

While he was weighing up options, he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Looking to it, he saw a man in a tunic waving at him. Savannah made his way towards the man without attracting the guards' attention. When he reached him and asked him what he wanted, the man began to shout,

"Hey, man, back off! What the hell are you doing!? I swear, I never touched her!"

The guards advanced until they stood either side of Savannah. He tried to pass the man off as a crazy drunk (which, for all he knew, was the case) but they weren't convinced and saw him off the premises.

Cursing his luck, Savannah decided to sneak back and look for a low enough window on the opposite side of the inn. He found one and entered through it pretty easily. Inside he saw some cabinets, a bed and a door. After searching the cabinets (which contained only jewellery and women's clothing) he tried the door, opening it slowly and quietly.

Out in the hall he came to, he heard the voice of the thief, who spotted him and immediately ran. Strangely he opened the door opposite, then did a 180 and ran back, wide-eyed. Savannah decided the other man in the room, now brandishing a knife, was a more pressing issue.

He snapped open his briefcase and retrieved his pistol, which he levelled at the man, keeping a stony "I will use this if I have to" expression on his face.

"I recommend that you put that knife down."

<spoiler=OOC>
Kildorn said:
The room she had found herself in was bare except for a rather large rack on the wall upon which a plethora of weapons hung: old and new. Ari inspected the weapons, finding many of them in good condition which she hoped meant they hadn't been used. She wouldn't want to go up against the inhabitants of the inn with the contents of the wall. Which gave her an idea. She would sabotage the weapons.

But how? Some could be done easily, the bow strings could be cut and the guns could be dismantled but the blades would be far more difficult. The bare contents of the room meant she couldn't hide them. Or could she?

She began to run her fingers along the floorboards, looking for a some sort of gap she dig her fingers into and dig up to create a hiding place. It was then that she noticed that the weapons rack was not the only other feature of the room. At the edge of the room was that glowing safe.

Now I'm being followed by safes? Never heard that one before.

She abandoned her floorboard scavange for a while, after all, a glowing safe is worth taking some interest. The knob turned smoothly and made the small clicks that all safes do, as if responding to the quiet whisperings of it's prospective thief. It refused, however, to open and gained a few strikes and hurtful remarks as reward for its tenacity. It wasn't going to put up with this, oh no indeed, and proceeded to hover for a few seconds before launching itself at Ari's head.

For once she avoided head injury, promptly ducking out of the way and watching with disbelief as it carried on straight through the wall, leaving no hole or any other sign of damage to the plaster. With a whimper of defeat she resumed her search of the floor.

This proved more fruitful as she soon found a board where the gap was unusually larger and several nails were missing. Lifting it up revealed a long and deep hole ideal for hiding the weapons. It also contained another safe, this time of the non-glowing variety. Ari was adamant that this safe would yield to her skills.

It did not. To say the least she was displeased. To say more would be to describe the rather malicious intent that appeared in her eyes as she lifted the safe out of the hole and drew her beamsaber before setting about on it with the fury only matched by someone that has received news that an irritating mother-in-law was coming to stay for the week. Also much like an irritating mother-in-law, the safe was not going to give in to her wishes, staying firmly shut.

Naturally Ari was further displeased with this, as if someone (possibly the mother-in-law in question) had just poured hot porridge in her lap. She decided not to waste time on the safe any longer and turned her attention to sabotaging the weapons. Of course she was now wielding a magnificently hot beam saber and a temper to match.

With her business finished and the smell of melted steel surrounding her, Ari decided it was time to leave. She could hear some voice approaching from the ground below the window. That meant the door was her only option. Before she could reach it, however, it opened and the would be thief they had arrived with walked in. He froze when he saw her and his eyes nearly abandoned ship altogether when he saw the saber in her hand and the carnage around her. There was a moment of silence. Then he bolted in the opposite direction, favouring a leap of faith over the railings than wasting any time around her. Shortly after the air filled with the sound of a siren and raised voices. It was most certainly time to leave.

Upon doing so Ari found herself in a hallway and, suprisingly, found Savannah pointing his gun a knife wielding man.

"I recommend that you put that knife down." She heard Savannah say. Ari promptly pulled her own pistol from its holster and pointed it at the assailent's back.

"I'd do what the man says. Otherwise we might get some practise."
That...was a rather Douglas Adams-esque post...and it made me laugh so hard and made my day...thank you.

Thunk..... thunk.... thunk.

Em hugged the pillow tightly. She couldn't exactly remember where she was, but it felt warm and cosy.

Thunk...

She lazily opened one eye, and squinted as sunlight rudely woke her up. Em sat up and yawned. "Whazza..ahh...aaaaawh?"

Thunk...

Glancing towards the window, she noticed it had been left open. The breeze from outside had been causing it to knock against the frame with an annoying thunk. She got up to close it, stretching several times on her way.
"There we go..." She said happily, sitting back on the bed. She spotted her daggers under the bed opposite her. The covers were all crumpled, like someone had been using it the night before.

"Ari..?" Em said, starting to remember a few hazy memories of what had happened. "Hammond? Savannah?" She grabbed her weapons and headed out the door, looking down the corridor.
Where did they go? Em frowned. She knew she'd been a nuisance on the last mission, even if she couldn't remember what caused her to faint, but leaving her behind? That was just rude.
She headed downstairs, hearing the familiar bustle of people talking and drinking.

Bleh, hope this is okay xD It's been ages since I wrote anything RP related.

As a cacophony of noises rose from the inn, Hammond's right eyebrow rose also. For a moment he looked perplexed. Surely Ari and Savannah would have managed to do better at sneaking around and hiding than he had done with stalling?

The klaxon sounds ringing over several crashing noises disagreed wholeheartedly with him. Deciding that this all meant that his plan had been defeated, through no fault of his own or of his plan's, he abandoned the guise of stealth and patted the pet that Ari had tasked him to name. "Well then... how about we join the fun?" He started limping forwards before quickly realising that the pet was not following him.

Noting it's reluctance, he began with a list of command words. "Go. Start. Run... Turn on?"

A snort of derision rose from the beast's wet nose, prompting Hammond to bury his head in his free hand. "Can we please get going? Ari and Sav-"

At the mention of it's master's name, the creature seemed to be a lot more willing to comply. It trotted off mid-sentence, faster than Hammond could comfortably limp, and pushed open the inn's front door. As Hammond made his way over, as quickly as he could, he heard a squeak come from the inn. Again he was more than a little confused. Going in, he drew his beam saber in his free hand and pushed open the door.

"What the hell... Do you just run off like that all the ti-" His sentence was again cut short as he saw the state of the inn. The first thing that caught his eye was the thief, holding a large knife to the throat of someone who Hammond assumed was fairly important. If he wasn't, the thief was using the entirely wrong person as a hostage.

"Call off your animal or I'll slit his throat!" The thief forced the knife up to the hostage's throat, as if this would speak to Hammond's 'good side' that wanted to save innocent people. It seemed that Ari's pet was equally unwilling to make such a deal, growling audibly and laying it's ears down as if ready to pounce.

"You think you can threaten me with some random person I don't even know?" Hammond let out a single chuckle, "Okay, I'd get it if you had Ari or Em. Then you could make threats. Hell, even Savannah would give you license to make a threat or two. But... this guy? This insignificant cur is your insurance? This guy, whoever the hell he is, is meant to be the reason I don't send an animal roaring across the room after you and, quite frankly, it's pathetic."

The thief didn't move, but appeared to be less than enthusiastic about his chances now.

"You know as well as I do that your only real chance to stay alive is to run off, right now, and never run across our little band of adventurers ever again." The thief started to stutter slightly. "So start running. Now."

He dropped his knife onto the floor and then started to stammer as Hammond loomed ever closer. "It was a trap! There are people coming here right now. From upstairs." He was backing away, shaking and drawing ever closer to the wall until his back was up against it.

"Wait, please. I'll tell you a secret way out! Just let me live!" The gesture did a good lot of nothing, earning him a large hole in his stomach as Hammond quickly hopped forwards and stabbed him. The sword retracted, leaving a scorch mark, and was then raised high above it's owners head. There was a quick slice downwards, spraying blood in a wide arc and ending the poor thief's life once and for all.

And as life ended for the thief, Hammond raised his beamsword again and started laughing. He made a grand game of waltzing back to the captive, smiling to the captive as he did so. "Finally! You have no idea how much I've been wanting to do that!" Having killed that thief did so much for Hammond that lesser tasks would simply not have been able to do. He was genuinely happy.

"I do hope you'll excuse that 'insignificant cur' thing. It was part of the act." As he wheeled around in front of the captive, his pain seemingly forgotten due to the overwhelming happiness of finally having his revenge realised, he noticed Ari and Savannah wander over into the entrance room from a side passage. "Ah, just in time. I think it's about time we make ourselves scarce. If a certain thief's last words are to be believed, we're looking at a few more guys showing up pretty sharpish."

Nazarius looks at the smiling Hammond and chuckles to himself as he takes his weapons out of the thieves backpack and puts them on himself. "I can not thank you enough" Naz says as he tests the string on his bow and checks the edges of his five knives. "I will go with you I suppose. At this point I will be replaced so I may as well not go back to be shamed by my tribe. If it is okay with you of course. Any enemy of his is an friend of mine" Naz says as he spits on the body of the thief and stores all of his weapons he then looks at Hammond's beam sword nervously.

Hammond himself was in too much of a good mood to object, so he cast a sort of glance to his allies. He didn't get an answer to the contrary and, with a casual shrug, he nodded to the newcomer. "Fair enough. Introductions can come later though, I've learned from experience that people's last words should usually be followed..." Before he made his turn to leave, his eyes saw what seemed like a small gleam of light hitting metal. He paused.

Thanks and I will

"Good, Good. Now, we should be going so we don't get killed by the reinforcements" Naz suggests. as he draws his longbow. "My name is Nazarius by the way, you can call me Naz." He says and then looks at Ari's pet "Nice pet".
