As a cacophony of noises rose from the inn, Hammond's right eyebrow rose also. For a moment he looked perplexed. Surely Ari and Savannah would have managed to do better at sneaking around and hiding than he had done with stalling?
The klaxon sounds ringing over several crashing noises disagreed wholeheartedly with him. Deciding that this all meant that his plan had been defeated, through no fault of his own or of his plan's, he abandoned the guise of stealth and patted the pet that Ari had tasked him to name. "Well then... how about we join the fun?" He started limping forwards before quickly realising that the pet was not following him.
Noting it's reluctance, he began with a list of command words. "Go. Start. Run... Turn on?"
A snort of derision rose from the beast's wet nose, prompting Hammond to bury his head in his free hand. "Can we please get going? Ari and Sav-"
At the mention of it's master's name, the creature seemed to be a lot more willing to comply. It trotted off mid-sentence, faster than Hammond could comfortably limp, and pushed open the inn's front door. As Hammond made his way over, as quickly as he could, he heard a squeak come from the inn. Again he was more than a little confused. Going in, he drew his beam saber in his free hand and pushed open the door.
"What the hell... Do you just run off like that all the ti-" His sentence was again cut short as he saw the state of the inn. The first thing that caught his eye was the thief, holding a large knife to the throat of someone who Hammond assumed was fairly important. If he wasn't, the thief was using the entirely wrong person as a hostage.
"Call off your animal or I'll slit his throat!" The thief forced the knife up to the hostage's throat, as if this would speak to Hammond's 'good side' that wanted to save innocent people. It seemed that Ari's pet was equally unwilling to make such a deal, growling audibly and laying it's ears down as if ready to pounce.
"You think you can threaten me with some random person I don't even know?" Hammond let out a single chuckle, "Okay, I'd get it if you had Ari or Em. Then you could make threats. Hell, even Savannah would give you license to make a threat or two. But... this guy? This insignificant cur is your insurance? This guy, whoever the hell he is, is meant to be the reason I don't send an animal roaring across the room after you and, quite frankly, it's pathetic."
The thief didn't move, but appeared to be less than enthusiastic about his chances now.
"You know as well as I do that your only real chance to stay alive is to run off, right now, and never run across our little band of adventurers ever again." The thief started to stutter slightly. "So start running. Now."
He dropped his knife onto the floor and then started to stammer as Hammond loomed ever closer. "It was a trap! There are people coming here right now. From upstairs." He was backing away, shaking and drawing ever closer to the wall until his back was up against it.
"Wait, please. I'll tell you a secret way out! Just let me live!" The gesture did a good lot of nothing, earning him a large hole in his stomach as Hammond quickly hopped forwards and stabbed him. The sword retracted, leaving a scorch mark, and was then raised high above it's owners head. There was a quick slice downwards, spraying blood in a wide arc and ending the poor thief's life once and for all.
And as life ended for the thief, Hammond raised his beamsword again and started laughing. He made a grand game of waltzing back to the captive, smiling to the captive as he did so. "Finally! You have no idea how much I've been wanting to do that!" Having killed that thief did so much for Hammond that lesser tasks would simply not have been able to do. He was genuinely happy.
"I do hope you'll excuse that 'insignificant cur' thing. It was part of the act." As he wheeled around in front of the captive, his pain seemingly forgotten due to the overwhelming happiness of finally having his revenge realised, he noticed Ari and Savannah wander over into the entrance room from a side passage. "Ah, just in time. I think it's about time we make ourselves scarce. If a certain thief's last words are to be believed, we're looking at a few more guys showing up pretty sharpish."
