He was the first to bring zombies to mainstream cinema. Dude's a legend for that, even if by modern standards the films aren't exactly amazing.

OT: I really can't stand 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'. I know people who believe it's a total classic, but I really, really hate it.

I don't know why I react this badly, but if someone said that to me in person I would actually be tempted to punch them to the floor.

Oh yeah, i belive i remember you saying that you liked the transformers films in an earlier thread (I remember weird things), so you seem to have quite an eclectic taste in films and/or other forms of culture. Not really contributing anything. Sorry.

Fargo. The Big Lebowski. Both with in what my opinion are a few chuckle worthy moments, but never really understood the appeal of either.

Napoleon Fucking Dynamite. I loathe that movie with every fiber of my being. I can't even watch three minutes of that abomination without feeling the urge to smash or kill something. And I hate Airplane!, it's an idiotic collection of sight gags, horribly lame puns and insipid dialogue. In fact, the same can be said for just about all of Leslie Neilsen's movies.
We're considering Napoleon Dynamite a classic nowadays? Christ, pop culture's worse off than I'd thought. I suppose that's what I get for unhooking my cable and refusing to go to the movies. On the rare occasion that I do crawl out from under my rock, I am struck by a veritable tsunami of shitness.

And aside from the surely/Shirley gag, Airplane was indeed insufferable. Maybe it was edgy when it came out or something, but every joke just seemed like a paint-by-numbers gag to me. Then again, for all I know Airplane is the reason those jokes seem so standard and cliché. I'm probably just too young to suffer the nostalgia necessary to like that movie.

OT: 2001: A Space Oddyssey. Christ, that felt like the longest 7 days of my life. I was genuinely shocked to find out afterwards that I'd only been bored for a couple of hours. Sure, it was trippy and original back in its day, but I will never understand why they didn't cut out the 2/3 of the movie where absolutely nothing happens at all.
Regarding Napoleon Dynamite, I don't know if it's considered classic (yet) but it was very popular, so I brought it up.
As for 2001, I've never seen it, though I have seen a couple of other Kubrick movies that were equally long and or boring. Barry Lyndon for example. I watched it for what felt like three or four hours, really just under an hour and a half, and nearly fallen asleep several times when I gave up on it (after I found out I was close to halfway through it).

Another couple of classics I can't stand, or don't like, are The Exorcist ( slightly boring and not all that scary) and the Omen (boring as all hell). Sure, they may have been terrifying when they first came out, or to a certain demographic (Catholics, for example) but I couldn't really get into them.

I think Pulp Fiction is GOOD but not great.
The Shining is aweful. Noone acts like a person.
Casablanca IS BORING.
Napoleon Dynamite is a pointless film.
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION IS NOT THAT GOOD OF A MOVIE!

The Big Lebowski. Can't stand it. I've seen it once, and rather than see it again for a free day in class I went back to my apartment and did homework. That's how much I enjoyed that movie. It's not funny at all, so that kinda kills it as a comedy for me.

Raging Bull, supposed to be a classic movie that everyone loves and features Robert DeNiro (a favorite actor of mine), but I can never get past the first 20 minutes.

Also, 2001. I liked the parts with Hal and dave, but everything else I think you need to be on drugs in order to really appreciate the film.

It's incredibly tempting to call the people hating on 2001: A Space Odyssey a bunch of intellectually vapid philistines who wouldn't know art if it punched them in the face, but fortunately I have more self-control than that :x

Personally, I have been able to find something redeemable in practically every "classic" film I've watched - I suppose a classic film that I really didn't enjoy was "Birth of a Nation"; I have absolutely no problem with silent films (some of my favourite films are silent), but I just found it to be overly drawn-out in its pacing, coupled together with the fact that literally every technique it pioneered has been improved upon in some way or another. Then again, I suppose one can't expect much more from a movie made in 1915.

American History X.

It's just plain shallow, one-sided, and fails to have proper character transition. Racism is bad. Okay, I get this point. WHY did you make the only point about it being that prison ***** rape in the shower is the only revelation a character needs to go through in order to "understand that racism is evil". Nonsensical character is nonsense.

It would have been awesome if they would have included the original ending where he shaves his head in front of the mirror and goes back to the skinheads. Not saying it's a positive ending but it would've shown what happens when hatred comes full circle.

The Hangover.

It was full of mediocre, reactionary jokes. None of the scenes were funny, Zack Galfanakis was boring and immature, and it was just...stupid. I can't go into great depth over this. Probably because there was nothing to laugh at but jokes that have been done before.

Gone With The Wind...what a depressing and long movie, and so few of the characters are like-able. I don't see why women swoon over it.

I saw Blazing Saddles for the first time a few days ago. I wouldn't say I couldn't fething stand it, but I didn't find it that funny. Except when the sheriff held himself hostage.

But what about Serving Sara? and The Ugly Truth in it? At least those have comedic appeal.

Well, it's not really that old, so I don't know if it counts, but I really hate Slumdog: Millionaire.

Probably the worst movie I've ever seen, excluding 'This movie is so bad, I'm going to MST3K it' films, like Twilight or Turkish Star Wars. The story is trash, the acting was godawful (especially Dev Patel), and that Bollywood feel around it made me sick.
