PS I Love You, i have still yet to forgive my mum for forcing me to sit through that... that... concertaintion of pure sickly dullness on celluloid.

(on the note of feth Dan Abnett confirmed new Gaunts ghost book coming soon, either gamesday or feburary, one of those two dates, the other is his next horus heresy book, was too busy being a fan boy to remember clearly what he said to me)

The appeal of Fargo is primarily in verisimilitude, your ten dollar Word of the Evening. It jettisons glam and explosions and Kick-Ass Villains in favor of what most real crime is like: low cunning and guesswork and hare-brained scheming and inexact cooperation among gangs of shitheads who don't particularly like each other or know what anyone else is doing. Buscemi's blowhard-loser-(but still dangerous)-character is a type that anyone who's encountered real petty criminals will understand instantly. It's a gutsy, risky and ultimately (judging by its reception) very successful film.
Fargo just seemed like a rough draft for No Country for Old Men which in my opinion did everything Fargo tried to do, only better. Although I've gotta say that Buscemi is money in anything he does.

Having to explain why The Big Lebowski is funny is like having to explain why Megan Fox is hotter than the sun. If you don't get it on a first viewing, then underlying tastes are so radically different that it's safe to assume you never will. And that's okay. All the more Lebowski for the rest of us to appreciate. Fuck it, Dude. Let's not go bowling.
We can just assume I never will then, cause I think Megan Fox is meh as well.

And thanks for your mention of Forrest Gump. The movie was overindulgent tripe that seemed specifically tailored for an Oscar-grab in the same vein as The King's Speech, and even though I love Hanks, I never saw the appeal of the film.

North by Northwest, although the movie isn't terrible, it is so dated and it would basically be a dumb summer action blockblaster if it wasn't directed by Hitchcock

Anything by Quentin Tarantino. He's the epitome of all sizzle and no steak.. and even his sizzle isn't very good compared to others. I doubt I'll ever get what people enjoy about his movies.

Forrest Gump: A slickly-delivered film with a deeply hateful, reactionary, proto-fascistic message conveniently sugar-coated with homilies from Forrest's mama. Forrest Gump is a combined war hero / athletic star / entrepeneurial powerhouse / self-sacrificing father because of one singular trait: He is too stupid a sonofabitch to question anything. Combined with a Perpetual-Damsel-in-Distress as his love interest and foils like "Lieutenant Dan" (the Reformed Atheist) and Jenny's-abusive-leftist-intellectual-boyfriend (the most negative stereotype available of Sixties Emancipation Culture), and it adds up to one of the most brazenly politically manipulative films ever made, easily the equal of the KKK propaganda epic Birth of a Nation in that regard.
haha wow, really your comparing Birth of a Nation to Forest Gump? I liked that movie and I guess I missed the whole thing where Jenny's BF was a sterotype, I just thought he was an asshole. On the whole though I must give you massive props, your present a very passionate opinion.

OT: Also I thought Metropolis was pretty good (fight scenes were just awful), Citizen Kane is decent, and Casablanca is horribly boring to me.

I hated Blade Runner (besides the visuals) the acting just was so bad. I know people love it but I hate it and I get flack for it.

Rocky Horror show. I hate this movie so bad, I don't see what anyone likes in it, it's awful the whole thing. Maybe it's just a style thing, I've TRIED to watch it at least 4 times with friends and it's just horrible.

A classic? Well, I didn't like "Citizen Kane" too much, but I love what it did well, and it did characters, environments, and camera angles REALLY well. but the pacing wasn't good for me.

I guess the closest thing to a movie I can't stand is...-Insert Eli Roth or Micheal Bay or Uwe Boll movie here-. Or Eragon. Hated that movie, and thought the first book was OK.

Woo, a Gaunt's Ghosts reference! I'm more partial to "frak" from the Ciaphas Cain books myself though.

While I don't go quite so far in my vehemence, I think Forrest Gump is horribly overrated. Gump's character is just a tool to elicit sympathy from the audience. Both of the main female characters are unlikeable whores, leading me to wonder if the director is a misogynist. The only thing I liked about the whole thing was the battle scene.

Citizen Kane.

Now, before you all murder me, I have the highest respect for the cinematography and technique of the film. I just don't find it to be an enjoyable movie.

Much like many indie games, in that they look great, unique, and impressive, but are not actually fun to play.

Napoleon Fucking Dynamite. I loathe that movie with every fiber of my being. I can't even watch three minutes of that abomination without feeling the urge to smash or kill something. And I hate Airplane!, it's an idiotic collection of sight gags, horribly lame puns and insipid dialogue. In fact, the same can be said for just about all of Leslie Neilsen's movies.
I hated Napolean Dynamite and I hated that everyone around me loved it and all I could do was scratch my head wondering how they thought it was funny.

Raging Bull, supposed to be a classic movie that everyone loves and features Robert DeNiro (a favorite actor of mine), but I can never get past the first 20 minutes.

Also, 2001. I liked the parts with Hal and dave, but everything else I think you need to be on drugs in order to really appreciate the film.
This, I couldn't agree more. I hated Raging Bull.

Red Dawn, boring as fuck, tries to be a badass action movie and serious drama, fails at being either, and Homefront (A.K.A. Red Dawn, the game) is even worse.
You clearly aren't a wolverine.

How do you keep warm?
By burning the reviews for games like Homefront and saving money for good games. I rented Homefront and ALL my assumptions about it were proven. It was boring, derivative, shit.
Are you saying your hatred keeps you warm?

I guess 2001 was a little boring, and maybe Citizen Kane had its dull moments, but I still liked them both enough. I can't think of anything worse than that about any classic movies.

According to Netflix, Awakenings is considered a "classic" film.

So. Boring.

Honestly, I actually fell asleep while watching it. >_>
