Book: As I Lay Dying. How anyone can consider this a masterpiece is beyond me. It is the bane of my existence.
When I read the name of the book I immediately thought of the Christian metal band.

OT:
Movie: Inception saw it in the theater and its a great movie but there are defiantly a lot better movies out there.

Book: Haven't really read any books that can be considered classics or instant classics.

Game: I have to say Half Life 2. Feel like its more of an average game than all the hype its been given.

Half life 2.
The combat was boring and none of the weapons had any kick to them.

2001: A space odyssey

If I want to watch boring scenes of space for tens of minutes overlaying a boring xenogenesis theory then I'll go look out of my window and think about Scientology. I seriously don't understand why this movie has had so much hype. It's abysmal. I strongly suspect a case of 'I don't want to seem like the only one who doesn't get it'. Primer was almost as bad.

Shogun 2 Total War

I'm a massive Total War fan and I absolutely love the Japanese theme, the graphics, the clans (still annoyed about the removal of Hattori for non-DLC), the RPG elements and the new battles, but why oh why did they code it so that every clan in Japan declares war on the player when the player becomes moderately successful? How am I supposed to beat that? Why don't other clans draw the ire of the Shogunate?

Film: The Wizard of Oz.

Admittedly I didn't watch it until I was 17, but it was so LAME. The acting was terrible, the special effects were embarrassing (I was so bored I made a game of how many times I could see the wire holding up the lion's tail) and I was just glad when it ended.

The odd thing is, I love Wicked so much, so I honestly expected to like The Wizard of Oz as well.

Game: Ocarina of Time. Yeah, I went there. Anti-TP fanboys, my flame shield is active.

Book: The Catcher in the Rye. Sure, it wasn't that bad, but nothing happens!

Movie: ...I honestly can't think of anything.

Ah, Catcher in the Rye. Basically put me off JD Salinger for a very long time. I found out later that the protagonist's supposed to come off as obnoxious and immature, but it doesn't make the book any less unpleasant to read.

For me it's the Kite Runner. It's essentially a giant plot hole, yet for some reason people liked it? And Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Salander's awesome. Blomkvist is a Marty Stu of the worst kind: literally a version of the author that has more sex. Guess who gets more page time?
Kite Runner was SO boring!

Subject is in the title but I got to say I watched blade runner and........
It was either really boring
When I saw the name of the topic, the first thing I thought of was Blade Runner. It seemed like barely half a movie with a few scenes, stretched out into 2 hours. I thought there'd be more replicants or something, but there are long stretches where either: hardly anything happens with anyone relevant, a short shootout scenes is slow-mo'd into 30 minutes, or he is just sitting around his apartment. They easily could have done a lot more outside of excessively showcasing the scenery.

Piggybacking on someone else's comment: The Godfather 2. I really liked the first one, but later on I saw the second and thought it was a mish-mash of unrelated stuff that was mostly boring, especially all the courtroom drama crap.

For a video game, I will pick something recent that got a lot of hype: New Super Mario Bros Wii. I almost hated the game because of how lacking it was compared to other 2D mario games, specifically how it was lacking many of the gameplay mechanics they had introduced in Mario 3 and Super Mario World. The hats sucked, you couldn't utilize shells as much as in World, the shell colors meant nothing and no powers for Yoshi, no spin jump, the music was just annoying, and they dumbed down the level design for the multiplayer.

Book: To Kill a Mockingbird. Didn't hate it or anything I just wasn't impressed.
Movie: Avatar. Good, but not in my top 20 or anything. Not even close
Game: Dot Hack series. I really enjoy most RPGs that are traditional turn based or even JRPGs but I traded that game in after about 3 hours. Just didn't impress me and I am still unsure on why there is a following for it.
Music: I know what I like so I am rarely disappointed or underwhelmed on it but I am a huge Tool fan and their last CD was good but I was expecting a masterpiece.

The original movie of "Of Mice And Men". I felt like I got a lot more out of the book.

EDIT: Also pretty much most of Ray Bradbury's work, including Fahrenheit 451. I guess it's partly because I just don't agree with his implication that one format of media is inherently superior in all cases, which is more or less what I thought the book was arguing. I mean, he does address that at one point in the book, except it doesn't really fit in with the story.

Certainly anyone reading it on the most literal level- just as a sci-fi adventure book- would be horribly disappointed, because that's not really what it was meant to be. It was apparently meant to be an argument for libraries. Full stop. That's it.

It was either really boring or I'm really stupid. And I don't think I'm particularly stupid because I have read the entire wheel of time series thus far and you need allot of patience to keep reading book 10.
that aside I don't understand the whole stigma around the movie. I walked in expecting a slow burn but talk about no burn. Instead of you know investigating and stuff he just roams around getting in arguments about philosophy with the replicant girl before very suddenly everyone starts very suddenly getting in gun fights. and then at the end it just ends. I mean the bad guy dies suddenly no kind of personal goal is achieved and the movies over. I walked in with the highest expectations yeah but I still never once enjoyed, was intrigued, liked the characters or anything that would typically constitutes a good movie.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie so don't get angry but I seriously didn't get it.
anyway what classics were you less then fond of.
yeah I also didnt "get" bladerunner I dont think its bad but...wheres the brilliance? instead its more just an hour or so of weirdness in fact I can bearley remember remembering what the hell was going on

but that said after a bit of thinking I guess perhaps the "themes" and/or Ideas of Philip K. Dick (and I guess you could say its an early example of cyberpunk in film) were more groundbreaking back then (the visual style certainly is/was theres no denying that)

so mabye it was so underwhelming because to us its really nothing all that new (except you know...weirdness)

eather way its not hard to see why it didnt do so well at the time

I guess for me S.T.A.L.K.E.R. there are actually alot of good things aboutt he game but really its just not very engaging
Yeah I guess what you say makes sense but still I wish i liked blade runner more than I did. And I like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and for that matter a lot of other Russian games. But hey it's all just opinion right?
dont get me wrong I dont dislike S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (its not like..in my oh so smug and supiror opnion which goes against popular veiw which makes it better..I mean some people act like their opnion is fact because they dare insult somthing popular)

I can see why its considered good and even ground breaking, I just couldnt get into it mainly because of the way the story was presented and the gameplay, I have alot of trouble reading big chunks of text in video games (not in real life however) it was the same with the witcher (not so much text as....wait...what am I doing here again?)

similar thing with AVATAR I dont think its a bad movie...by all logic I should really really like it but I dont because both sides are dicks and I dont like being told how much I suck compared to blue cat people
I didn't like AVATAR because I'd seen it before and it was better the first time. You know when it was still called Dances with wolves.
All right an exaggeration yeah and a far from an original argument but the reasoning still stands. Also I found it way easier to support the humans. Dicks they were but at least I enjoyed them being dicks as opposed to the "I think you should hug more trees" thinly disguised environmental message.
Avatar isn't really a classic it is what like a year or two old. It is no where near old enough to be considered a classic.
No I'm definitely not saying it's a classic it's just we were half way through a conversation you apparently missed.
Oh no I got the conversation it just isn't as classic or Dances with Wolves. It follows the same general format just as most movies can be boiled down to a few main plots. This is one thing I hate about when people comment on the movie. No it is not Dances with Smurfs or Pocahontas but it does use the same base of the story. So you are kinda calling it classic by comparing it with Dances with Wolves.

Book: The Great Gatsby
Even with the symbolism explained this is not a timeless classic and I've had to do a term paper on this crap novel.

Film: Eraser Head
I got the symbolism and everything was way out of wack but still underwhelming.

Also: Casablanca
It's just boring

Game: Half Life 2 and Portal
I think I just don't like puzzles and puzzles in a shooter kind of suck to me.
