Any Zelda, really. I got to the Water Temple on Ocarina of Time and then stopped because I was bored.
It's infinitely less annoying on the 3DS version with the ability to de-boot in 1 click.

Sonic the Hedgehog. That game series was SO frustrating to me, I just couldn't even see what anyone liked about it. I tried, oh God, I tried. But I just... and the... with the... -throws arms up in frustration- DON'T TAKE ALL MY RINGS AWAY, DAMMIT. GOD WHY DON'T I HAVE ENOUGH SPEED.
It took me years to beat Sonic 1 without save states. Starlight Zone is an absolute nightmare and damn near impossible for me to perfect. That's if I'm lucky enough to even get that far without being on my last limb. However, the speed physics were actually very realistic and natural once you got the hang of it.

Wow. I JUST posted a thread about this a few minutes before seeing this thread:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.878026-Final-Fantasy-Tactics-I-just-cant-get-into-it

I'll just copy/paste I guess:

I am (or was, rather; the jury's out until FFXV proves either the savior or the reaper of the series for me) a fan of Final Fantasy. I've played all the (non-MMO) games in the main series from beginning to end at least once. I've re-played favorites multiple times.

On top of that, I like strategy games. I pop Civilization Revolution into my console on a consistent basis. I liked Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on the Nintendo DS and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on the Gamecube.

Why then, despite all the critical fanfare, can I not get into Final Fantasy Tactics? I've tried playing it TWICE and both times I found it be a chore. I even used it as a sleep-aid once: I'm serious, I knew I needed a nap, but I couldn't settle down, so I played this game until I was bored into sleepiness, then turned it off and fell asleep.

The story drops me into this political drama that is meaningless to me because I haven't yet become acquainted with this world or its characters. On the gameplay side, the character building and customization has some frustrating UI and doesn't explain itself at all. I know that there's a lot of depth and strategy to be found there, but I don't feel I should have to study a strategy guide on GameFAQs to do it.

So FFT fans, what am I not getting? What do I need to do in order to appreciate this game? Or is it just not for me? And if that's the case, why isn't it? Read my descriptions above; it seems like this game would be perfect for me.

I need help.

Zelda. Any and all of them. I tried to play Link to the past and it just felt directionless. There was rarely much if any clue where you were actually supposed to go(that I remember at least) tried wind waker too. On top of the old problems they'd also added a long, boring tutorial village that seemed to take hours, and an artstyle that made link look like an 8 year old. I'll always prefer somewhat more stylized graphics over photorealism but there are limits.

Metal gear. I just can't follow it. The plot seems to be confusing and vague on purpose which I know is standard for the spy/conspiracy genre but again I think they overshot the mark.

Most every other "classic" I've played I can get some enjoyment out of at least but not these.

Edit: 500th post WooT

I just couldn't get into oblivion. Maybe it was because I played skyrim first and it spoiled me but I just found the game lacked something. The environments we kind of bland, just variations on the theme of meadows, really. It had good points but I just couldn't keep going.

1. The original Final Fantasy games (like 1-9): ...yes, I know, that's something of a cardinal sin in gaming culture. But I can't help it. I just don't care for turn-based combat and random battles. Also, they're waaaaay too dated at this point, which actually makes me more interested in the FF7 remake.

I really enjoyed FF10 though and I was pretty into Pokemon as a kid/recently with X and Y, so, I suppose there's a chance some time?

2. Fallout 1 and 2: I've tried to get into 'em. I just can't. They look dated and crappy even compared to the likes of Icewind Dale (though my memory may be a bit fuzzy there) and getting them to run on my rig is damn near impossible for whatever reason. The universe and setting is fascinating to me, but...ugh, the gameplay. Too tedious.

3. Metal Gear: It's just ridiculous, lol.

I think that about does it for classics.

Planescape: Torment

I honestly have no rational reason for it, either. I grew up playing the hell out of games like Fallout and Fallout 2, so the style and challenge are nothing foreign to me. I just can't seem to get into it. The more times I try, and fail, the more frustrated I get with it, because I know how absolutely revered the game is. I'm actually pretty disappointed with myself, honestly.

World of Warcraft - I dont undrstand how this medicoraty became so popular. Its simplistic gameplay its generic quests... I find it incomprehencable.
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, I enjoyed it for pretty much the same reason you ended up enjoying Diablo 2. The game itself is pretty mediocre, but adding in a whole bunch of friends and Ventrilo made it a hell of a lot more entertaining. Over the past few months fewer and fewer of those friends have wanted to play it, so I've ditched it too, because yeah... it's pretty boring as a solo experience.
