title says it all, really.

For me, its that one guy who always, ALWAYS think s that they should fight the "old way" with guns and swords instead of planes and missiles and crap, and that "the battlefeild is pure" or something along those lines.

You know, you could wait a little bit longer than 3 minutes to bump your own thread. (Not that you should)

OT: When someone pulls some over powered bullshit out of no-where at the last minute. Bleach is a particularly bad offender.

While really only prevalent in Anime and some Japanese games,
whenever some ditzy, naive girl comes along and gives hope or some other contrived crap to the main/obligatory serious character.

These characters are unbelievably pointless and serve no purpose other than to brute force the plot-line along, and occasionally bog down an otherwise consistent tone with dumb-ass antics.

Other than that, evil people simply being evil for no other purpose than to move the plot along. This just shows lazy writing and plot development, I mean even the most recognizably evil figure in history at least had a goal and some semblance of reasoning behind his actions.

How come everything ever always involves relationships or romance to some extent or another?

Who here can name a piece of fiction where everyone might as well have been asexual?

I've...never come across a character like that before. Because usually the characters who are using guns and swords are not fighting with people who fight with planes and missiles. They're on two different battlefields, you know? Besides, if a character like that did exist in that situation, he certainly won't be alive for much longer.

I am, however, sick of the "stoic crime-fighter" character. In other words, almost the entire cast of Law and Order: SVU. They never smile except with sarcasm or insincerity, the only time they ever laugh is at their own jokes, and they all talk like they're constipated. Good grief. You can have characters who can be serious yet also have a personality. I mean, just look at NCIS.

Yeah, that the worst. You're expecting a climactic, amazing, horrifying, ultimate, aginst all odds, battle for survival with incredible weight and meaning, then, woopsy, magic sword hooray.

Eh, maybe we don't read the same books.

Please don't bump your own thread. I've seen you make the first comment on your own threads a few times in the past as well.

I'll be watching.... *goes back to the shadows*

Have patience. Sometimes your thread won't even appear on the forum for like 10 minutes. The Escapist is funny that way.

OT: Too many evil scientists, not enough scientists just doing their job and having their work corrupted into evil purposes, which tends to be how it actually works (for example, the scientists who invented the atomic bomb to beat the Germans to it or to end the war with Japan, and the psychos in later presidential cabinets who just wanted to carpet-nuke the ruskies in order to not be soft on communism).

"EYH! Remember me one of the good guys? I am going to betray you now!! *evil laugh"

I am not exactly tired of betrayals, I am just tired of charachters that can't tell how obvious it is that their friend is actually bad.

In animes when some guy is loosing and gains powers from nothing, that actually makes me stop watching animes.

That is a tricky route because that means you are trying to build a character while ignoring just about THE most inherent traits to humanity--love.

See, the key to a convincing character is desire. They need to want something. MOST people, somewhere inside of them, have a desire for companionship. Regardless of how outrageously evil and cruel a character might be, if he loved or loves someone he has at least one thing in common with just about everyone in the audience. It humanizes him, in that respect. Love is something that is universally understood. So for a character to not have at least CONSIDERED how they feel about companionship, it feels as though there's something missing. I mean, even if they don't want a relationship, they should have at least thought about it at some point and come to a conclusion. Otherwise, they're just not whole.

Ah! There's a video game cliché I wouldn't mind never seeing again. Also please don't sass me.

I'm pretty sure those scientists knew exactly what they were doing. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Robert_Oppenheimer#Manhattan_Project] Though admittedly, Einstein brought it to Roosevelt's attention first. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein#World_War_II_and_the_Manhattan_Project]

*guh* Read that waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times, and no amount of excellent writing can disguise the 'blech' of such a macguffin...

OT: Sequel indicating deus ex machinae...

Power of Friendship. Ugh, this got to be the most frustrating to me, even though I hate every cliche.

We all deserve a fair amount of sass for something or other. And I am the Sasser.
