There are some great examples in that top 11 video. I think one of the reasons I like Tombstone so much is because they take all the old worn out clichees and breathe new life into them.
The video reminded me about another cliche, one that isn't mentioned but shown in the beginning. The clichee of the cool sound gearing up.
In action flicks people always gear up for something, for a bankrobbery, sky diving, alien hunting or terrorist killing. The sounds when people strap on their boots, insert their clips or fasten their webbing are completely unrealistic, but they are so cool.
The sound of loading a clip in a movie is a swoosh, and one just one very sharp click. Fastening a belt or other type of webbing sounds like someone rappeling from a building. When a missile launcher is loaded onto a truck it makes _one_ thump. It's almost like a symphony with the gear playing percussion in the most disciplined manner.
That's not how it sounds in real life. In reality all the sounds are an unorderly mess.
The old Schwarzenegger movie Commando has a few scenes where this happens in a very exaggerated way.
