I've always found them to be bizarre. I've been told I need to go to them to be social but every time I do no actual socialising can happen since I can't hear people or shout loud enough for them to hear me so I spend the night having conversations that are 90% "WHAT?!" and paying way to much to not get drunk.

They're places to pick up a one night stand; that's it.

I hate clubs but I love pubs!
Just the general feeling of being in an english pub ^_^ Everyone so nice and you can always find a drinking buddy.
But I prefer hanging out with a couple of friends and then towing down a beer or two because being drunk well hurts :(

I dont like the idea.

Dont like the music and dont like being in crowds.

Seems like a waste of time.

They're the one place that you can dance like a flailing madman and not stand out. Hence I think they're rather fun (as long as you go with the right people).

Terrible music, obnoxious people and overpriced drinks.

That's what I think of them based on my experiences. If I weren't there with a group of friends I wouldn't have stayed.

I much prefer pubs over clubs. In a pub you can enjoy a drink properly and have a conversation that doesn't need deciphering when it reaches your ears through the bass.

There's one club that i went to a few times. It was £5 to get in but you could get a leaflet with your drink in a bar which would get you in there for £1 i think. Which was great! Then it was £1.50 for pretty much all drinks, £1.30 for a jagerbomb. It gets a bit boring and I don't really dance, but cheap drinks. Then they took the leaflet things away. I really really prefer a pub (quiet, ales, pool table depending), and if not then a bar like the student union.

I prefer club biscuits, particularly the orange ones.

I prefer swords really, far more civilised(as far as tools of death go).

Seriously, I have never been to a club, never going to either. Parties aren't my thing.

I would much prefer a quiet night in.

I used to go to them fairly often, still do on occasion. Whilst there's not much to recommend from a sober person's point of view, they seem to get a lot more fun when a few drinks have been had.

Of course, it all depends on whether you can actually stomach whatever's being played in there. If not, move on :)

I think that's a bit of a difficult question really, as it depends alot on what exactley is on offer in terms of clubs.
for example, where I live, we only currently have 2 propper night clubs (unless you count the strip-club I suppose) both of which appeal mainly to the horde... i.e, people who all look dress act and think the same, have nothing of any interest to say about themselfs EVER. These places have music I don't like at all and can't dance to, stock a limited amount of acceptable beverages and I'll only go there if for some reason a whole bunch of people I actually like are going in and want me to go.
In my town I'm much happier going to a regular pub, drinking decent booze chatting with good folk and listening to music we like.

HOWEVOR!!! If I was going to London for the weekend there's shed loads of clubs and such that I'd happily venture into, as well as the pile of shit similar to what I have in my own town.

Depends on how many people you go in with.

If you go in alone it's going to suck.

If you go in with like a large group it gets pretty crazy and awesome fast.

The only purpose that nightclubs fill for me is being a place to go to when the inner city bars/pubs close due to noise restrictions. Thus, if I have gotten sufficiently shitfaced and don't feel like ending the evening just then and there, I can go to some random nightclub with my mates and keep on partying.

I'd never go to a place like that sober though. The point of doing so kind of pass me by. I mean, the music stinks, the "serious" clubgoers suck as decent company, and it's only in nightclubs that I have been groped by total strangers. Often they don't even have the guts to do it when I can see them but swiftly cup a feel in the middle of a crowd and when my back is turned.

So to summarize: I have to have reached an adequate level of intoxication before going to a nightclub seems like a good idea to me...

In my opinion, don't bother going. I have only once managed to have fun at a club, but the amount of alcohol I needed to drink to make it enjoyable also caused me to vomit about half-a-dozen times. So no, I don't like clubs.

Never liked the idea of them. I went to one to stop my friends moaning at me and gave it a try. I was bored, pretty much all night. The music was crap and too loud, there were far to many people, the drinks were expensive and I don't dance. I was soo bored. Luckily it was an 80's club and they were playing cartoon intros on the TVs.

My conclusion: I'm sticking to pubs. Much nicer and at least I can get to bed at a semi decent time. How can people stay up that late and still function in the morning?
