Way to stay on top of things, CNN.

America has a far higher number of reported rapes (per capita) than Japan - something like 18x last I checked. Those in glass houses shouldn't criticise other cultures raep games. Focus on solving the actual rapes, then go after the fictional ones.
I have this theory that sexual repression is the real reason our culture is so screwed up sexually... if you can work out your bizarre urges in simulation, you have less incentive to do the real thing.

EDIT: "Proxy" was definitely not the word I was looking for. My bad.

That took them time.I don't even know how many times I've beaten that game....I did play it when I was younger and less mature.

To all the people who are complaining that CNN is late to the party needs to realise that the rest of world does not think about videogames constantly the way we all do. We are part of the video game culture. Judging other cultures based on their lack of knowledge about our culture is the very thing the OP is arguing against doing.

Nobody not in the "videogame wolrd' has any idea what rapelay is, so this story is worth telling on CNN even if it isnt breaking news to us.

let people do what they want, better to let people stay and home and whack off over games like this than have them go try out their own 'methods' on real girls

plus, i coulda sworn this bandwagon had reached the end of the trail a while ago..

Its funny, if it wasn't for the name, western audiences wouldn't even guess that it was about rape.

Because there have been OODLES of rape games in japan, even some that have gotten name recognition in other places, but no one really noticed, because they never played the game to find out it was about rape

We have no say in what they do. If they must ban adult games then they must ban adult movies because it is just as easy for someone to get ahold of those.

Bah, I was just finished scrubbing all memory of this game from my mind!

Although I must be honest, I wouldn't mind playing it to see what the fuss is about. If it's anything like most other hentai games, it'll be more funny than disturbing. Unless the problem is that it's apparently trivialising rape?

Sooo. Why aren't they throwing a ***** fit about the messed up storyline in F.E.A.R? or the mass amount of killings in COD.
A lot of people find murder worse than rape.

Wellllcome to Japannnnn.

No really CNN you're a little late to the party [sub]The RAPEparty[/sub]

Although it's their culture, I still think we have some kind of right to criticize this. I mean it IS rape......

Should Japan ban RapeLay because a bunch of stupid gaijin threw a ***** fit? No.

Should Americans collectively shut our fucking mouths and realize that the rest of the world views us the way the other kids on the playground view the asshole rich kid, as nothing but a source of cool toys to play with and otherwise not worthy of friendship?

HELL FUCKING YES.
Well, I was going to say something about how it's not much different than the countless waves of locusts I've mowed down in Gears of War but you spoke the truth, sir.
Thirded (I agree. And the racism/xenophobia and homophobia present in most mainstream games disturb me far more than nonconsensual sex in a (reputedly) crappy game that not that many people worldwide played.)

No, it's virtual rape. There's an important distinction.

Should GTA be banned because its murder, robbery and grand property destruction?

No. Because it's virtual .

........touché.

Although it's interesting how films with sex stuff are always more frowned upon than violence. Apparently it corrupts our youth far quicker :S

Plus apparently kids can't tell the difference between games and reality.

Hooray for our enlightened society!

That's a product of U.S. society rather than globally, I think. Compare it to how say...the Italians (or, more appropriately for this thread, the Japanese) view sex and you tend to see a clear distinction.

And yes, differentiating reality and fiction is hard :(

And the UK - or hell, just the whole Western civilisation.

I know, I mean right now I'm talking to you in real life, but if I turn around....is......that reality too? I don't know!?
