<spoiler=Fallout 3 Spoiler kinda sorta>The Vault Dweller with the help of the Lyons Pride fought his way through the Memorial. When he got to the purifier he found it to be highly irradiated. "It's either your or me who's going to have to go in there," said Sarah Lyons, with a feeling of hopelessness in her voice. "I've got a better idea!" piped up The Vault Dweller, who then programmed a Protectron to interface with the controls using is immense scientific ability, and then everyone broke for lunch.

"That was a much more satisfying ending!" said Sarah, taking another sip of her Nuka Cola.
"I'm just glad I can keep playing!" said the Vault dweller with a sigh of relief.

I'll stop now.
Fawkes could have also done it also. Sadly he refused.

The first time I played Half Life the scientists wanted me to put the sample in the giant machine. I didn't, so Gordon and Barney went and had a bear. I tell you Half Life 2: Gordon does his tax returns was really dull.
They have a bear? Awesome. :p

It's scripted so that you can't kill him with a headshot. His arm blows off instead.

Think about it, if you could kill Zachaev outright in the "One Shot, One Kill" mission then the story would fall to bits.

Price, Gav, Soap and the rest of the gang and bumping around Eastern Europe searching for Al Asad. When they finally find him Zachaev calls Asad's mobile. Price answers, says "Didn't I shoot you in the face 15 years ago?", Zachaev says "Oh bugger, you're right!", hangs up and the SAS get home in time to watch the Cricket. Brilliant.

EDIT: There, I fixed up the Kamarov/Zachaev thing. Now you can stop quoting me about some mixed up names.
This would have been incredible actually.

On another note, is it actually possible to shoot down the helicopter in the last level BEFORE it blows up the bridge? The shot is nearly impossible anyway, and given the other scripted moments I expect that even if you DID manage to shoot the thing it wouldn't go down.

Church?! Is that you???

Anyways, even if you had just barely nicked his toe, his arm would still fly off. The question is, then, how many other people did you kill with the .50 before they were all able to pack up and leave?
haha RVB quote instantly spotted

I think that McMillan should of taken the shot or had his own .50cal that way nobody lives, also wouldn't it have been much simpler to shoot a gas tank on a truck/car and blow em all up. I know its scripted but still...

No matter what you do his arm is injured. I miss Deus Ex, where you could shoot quite a few plot characters early if you felt like it, and the story would move around it. For instance:

In Lebedev's airfield, you could kill Anna Navarre, which would cause you to not meet her later in Battery Park. You could also save your brother instead of running away like you are told, something I only figured out on my third playthrough of that level.

In each of these cases, the story adapted slightly to fit with your actions.

Because the level where you snipe him is 15 years before the beginning so his arm had already been shot off in the beginning smug frog
I can never shoot his arm off and fail the mission so how can he still have his arm, 15 years later? Everyone else is speculating on the effects of him getting killed 15 years prior, so I will speculate on what happens when I miss that shot. Oh, and Captain Price probably got killed too - never made it out of Russia. :(
Hmm I guess if you would miss the shot 15 years later soap would of died too since Captain Price wouldn't be there to save you from some parts of the game.

@kdragon1010: Wrong. The arm always comes off, doesn't matter where you shoot him because it's a flashback. This is Call of Duty not Back to the Future, changing history isn't part of the game. You CAN program it so that if you shot someone in call of duty in the foot their arms would fly off even if that doesn't make sense. The game does what it was told to do.

orannis62: Try reading my post again. I said there was no mystic curving of the bullet into his arm. Emphasis on "into his arm." As in, no curving of the bullet so that it heads RIGHT FOR the arm. Yes I know there's wind, it's very obvious to anyone who's ever played the level that there's wind, they got the flag there showing you how hard it's blowing and everything. Maybe you'll understand what I meant if I reword it for you.

The bullet doesn't curve into his arm. The 'Wind' isn't a scripted event, it's a feature to mess with your aim. The wind doesn't automatically change in the last split second so that the bullet always curves into his arm. The only thing scripted here is the target's ragdoll effect. Meaning you can shoot him in the wrong arm and it'll still fly off. You can shoot him in the head and his arm will still fly off, you can shoot him in the torso and his arm will fly off, you can shoot him in his pinky finger, and his arm will still fly off.

You CAN shoot him elsewhere. The arm flys off because the programmers don't expect you to be looking so hard at exactly where you shot him. Even if you hit him in the foot the action happens so fast all you see is a blood spurt, a stumbling NPC and a seperated arm flying off. The bullet doesn't curve into his arm unless you happened to be aiming their and the wind was on your side. The wind is only there to make the shot difficult, not there as an excuse for the bullet to always bend toward the arm, since it doesn't. If that was true, all you'd have to do is pull the trigger once and you'd always hit him. The arm just always comes off no matter where you shoot him. You can probably find videos of the bullet landing elsewhere on youtube.

Maybe YOU should play the game again. So yeah. I know I'm answering this thread pretty late in the game but no. A real 'headshot' isn't possible. You can pop him in the big toe if the opportunity presents itself and his arm will still come off. There's no alternative ending or anything.

No, he's too solid and organic to be Church, duh. And no, it's impossible to actually get a head shot. No matter where the bullet hits, the same animation happens and the arm always flies off exactly the same way.

sumtimes it can be a glitch were it thinks you hit him in the arm but, one time i got a headshot and at the ending of the game, he came with no head so it depends.
