Not a fan of coffee, but I quite like Jam!

I felt Mogworld was the better book, though.

Also, happy song!

OK, so it's not a happy song but how can you listen to that and NOT be instantly cheered up? Give into the glorious cheese.

Ugh, coffee is sooooooo nasty and disgusting. I just don't see how you guys can drink that foul stuff. I guess maybe I've yet to experience, 'real' coffee. Someone enlighten me.

Never liked coffee. I tried coffee one time and had to spit it out, what you people taste in it I will never understand. Sorry to be a downer. Here, watermelon.

Now that's something nobody could dislike.

I only have plunger/cafe coffee. I can't stand instant. It tastes like bitter dirt.

I do enjoy it. Though in a way that would assuredly be viewed as blasphemous by 'real' coffee drinkers.

Anyway, if I get some coffee in me 'round 2-3 in the morning, it seems to have the same effect on me and my music as pot seems to for other people. Everything just sounds so much better, so more livley.

It's at this point that I usually begin air drumming about my room and generally acting like a wannabe rockstar jackass. ^^
I love coffee.
Oh and a song.

Coffee is, in my opinion, bitter and disgusting without an unhealthy dose of sugar. I much prefer a nice cup of tea, NATO standard (milk, 2 sugars).
For happy songs, let's go with these:
Fantastic song, not too upbeat, but it brings a smile to my face.

Love this track, a nice song to wake up to, especially when you have nothing to do (and a doobie ;) ).

My favourite song in the world, always makes me think of a certain girl.

Ahh, Hendrix, how you light up my life even though I wasn't even alive when you were!

Just gonna quote myself here

Just... Yeah, I want to here other people sing coffees praises. Or go on about how they hate it.
As long as you bring happy music, you can hate the drink of the gods.

Man, I just realised I used the wrong "hear" in the opening post. Oh well, I was tired, I had not had enough coffee yet.

On that note I am about to go and make myself a jug of coffee.

I fucking love watermelon. Just saying.

Not to rain on everyone's parade, but I seem to find a lot of people talk about coffee in the same manner that people (at least here in London where I live) talk about alcohol. As in, they stroke their own ego about discovering the "the best coffee shop in the world" and how they won't touch certain brands, musing that instant is like drinking dirty water and will label you ignorant if you drink cheap coffee.

You get this kind of talk in a lot of pubs about beer and other drinks too, but it seems to be a trend now for younger people to brag about coffee and associated types/brands. Perhaps London has it bad what with hipster subculture everywhere.

On a more positive note, I don't particularly mind coffee, but it's rather too strong for my taste (nice smell though), so I tend to stick to tea. Plus the caffeine really messes me up, I get pretty shaky and pseudo-stressed, like tonnes of adrenaline is flowing in me. Then I'll hit a low afterwards and feel really tired, and this can be just from one cup of black coffee. The additives in de-caf put me off, so sadly I can't drink coffee very often, only when I'm really tired already.

Does everyone go through that, and just get used to the caffeine? I've always wondered.
Strange. I take from your sentiment you don't really think much of the nuances of alcohol?

To put it bluntly: Some coffee is beautiful. Some is utter shite. Much like White Lightning is shite and Norman Cidre is, as a rule, fucking beautiful. Its not about stroking ones ego, it is simply about enjoying one of the things you consume. Coffee, like beer, is as varied as you can imagine.

As for ignorant? Nah, I wont label someone a moron for liking cheap coffee. Needs must. But I will not consider someone to be particularly refined either. Much like if someone says they only like Strongbow when it comes to cider. There is a whole wide and wonderful world of coffee out there and its worth exploring.

Plus I have nothing to do with London, nor hipster culture. I am an expat. And as for small coffee shops that do amazing coffee? Well, there is an awesome place in Huddersfield that does a bacon sandwich as large as your head. But other then the few times I visit my sisters all the coffee I drink is store bought, gifts from relatives or soy Lattes from Cafe Nero.

In sum:

You get that kind of talk about beer cause beers are incredibly varied. Not all ales taste the same, not all lagers and ciders taste the same, you get the idea. Coffee, like alcohol, is rather varied. Hence why people who like it try and find the best coffee they can. Think of it like games. Not all FPS titles are identical, people will try and find one they like.

That FPS analogy is very good, and made me realise I guess I don't care for coffee (or alcoholic beverages for that matter) is the same way that a gamer might not care for the FPS genre, and thus each one seems the same. Thinking about it, my Greek boss at work introduced me to Frappuccinos, which apparently are really popular in Greece. With the right amount of milk and sugar that tasted pretty nice, so I guess I'll label that one as my favourite. I hope that isn't labelled the equivalent to Call of Duty or Aliens: Colonial Marines as I would have no idea.

By the way I wasn't labeling you a hipster earlier, I was just saying that people tend to judge too harshly when it comes to choosing alcoholic/coffee drinks, and try and shove their own views down my throat. With alcohol I've been scrutinized numerous times (even by the barman no less) for choosing certain brands or types of drinks not considered the "best" or masculine enough.

Anyway to make up for the non-awesome coffee talk, here's a really really happy song:

Why? Here in Norway we have a couple of really good instants. Not quite the same as proper beans and such, but still good. Also, coffee is absolutely awesome, the nectar of the gods. When I'm home from school in summer and christmas, I drive a taxi, and there most of us go through one cup every time we don't have a passenger, so on a normal day it usually adds up to one and a half to two litres a day. Normally though I drink about a litre a day. I would have more, but it's somewhat too expensive for that.

God, this analogy is going to get tired and convoluted incredibly quickly.

A Frappuccino is more like... A genre of coffee? Its just one way of making coffee. For people who love coffee its more about the beans then what you do with them.

So... Think of it as a genre. For the people who love coffee, its all about the publisher. The beans. Wait, does that work? *ponders*

Unless you think of chain stores like Nero as the publisher, and the beans as the studios. Perhaps that works. But you get the idea. Many different people will make things within the genre (Frappuccinos) but it depends on who made what goes into the genre.

It always sucks when people frown upon you based on your alcohol choices and whatnot. Just annoys me. Well, it used to. Now that I have settled into what I like (Ale, Bitter, Whisky, Vodka, Tequila, Rum and some lager, with regards to alcohol) I just don't care. What I buy is mainly down to my mood and how heavy my wallet feels. If one drank only the finest whisky one would end up very poor very quickly.

I find it interesting that even as someone who admits no real knowledge of coffee you are still hoping that you are not judged harshly for what you like. Its a strange bit of human psychology. You know that you wont fit in, yet you still hope on some small level that you will. You think you don't care but a little bit of you does. Again, no insult whatsoever.

And as for the whole hipster thing? I am just rather defensive about it. Sometimes I get called a hipster, which just confuses me. I like old music and good coffee. I don't even KNOW any independent coffee places in Lancaster (At some point I hope to find a woman who is willing to wander around town looking for places to drink fine cups of coffee). People look at my interesting dress sense (You don't need a reason to wear a suit, right?) and my love for coffee and cigarettes, combine this with my interesting music tastes and declare me hipster.

Two reasons.

One: I am lactose intolerant and soy milk curdles almost instantly in instant coffee which makes it utterly foul.

Two: Its hard to find instant coffee that is not utterly foul and I own a coffee machine. Why bother buying instant, it takes only a few minutes more to put the coffee on and then you have a jug waiting for you on the hot plate until the moment you need it.

If I get a job next year there are two things I want to buy, both outrageously expensive. I want a combined coffee grinder and machine and a gaming PC. In that order. That way I can actually buy real beans and grind them myself so when I am conquering the Meditteranian as the Romans in Rome Total War 2 I can drink coffee as my men die horrific and pointless deaths.

Because if your men aint dying pointlessly you are doing something wrong.

I guess that makes me a coffee casual.
You're not alone, I can't be bothered with the effort of making real coffee until I've already had coffee.

I find that it's smoother if you add milk/a bit of cold water before pouring on the hot water, instead of after.

Also, everybody should try coffee with honey instead of sugar at least once.

Finally, I'd like to drop another chilled, happy beat to this thread.

OK then, well I like the genreFrappuccino, but I can't tell the difference too much between the titles of bean types/brands. Or are coffee bean types and brands classed differently too? Man my head hurts :( .

I find it interesting that even as someone who admits no real knowledge of coffee you are still hoping that you are not judged harshly for what you like. Its a strange bit of human psychology. You know that you wont fit in, yet you still hope on some small level that you will. You think you don't care but a little bit of you does. Again, no insult whatsoever.
.

I thought this would be obvious. People like to discuss things, no matter what their opinion or level of knowledge. After all, conversation would be rather boring if everyone knew the same things/shared the same opinions. In this case it's not about "fitting in", after all it's not like talked about coffee at a coffee convention; most commonly someone would start a conversation about it, and in order to contribute and socialise I would be honest and share my opinions. So what if they don't like me? It's how they reply that shows how good their character is; explaining a disagreement is fine, it's when others put you down for what you like/dislike that it annoys me.

Let me reiterate that I don't mind coffee, I just can't drink it often because it includes high levels of a drug called caffeine that gives me side effects. You said it yourself in the OP that You want to hear how people hate it as well as like it, so thought I would be OK in sharing my experiences with coffee in general, no matter if you agreed with me or not. Guess I was wrong.

On a final note, what you described about yourself in no way makes you a hispter. Hell, wearing a suit is just good dress sense! I might be a bit concerned about the loving cigarettes thing, but another time and place :) .

More happy music!

Hmmm, coffee. I made some coffee pie a few days ago, combining two awesome things into one. And it was good.

And now for happy music:
So sickeningly sweet...

I'm trying my best to limit my caffeine intake. I usually have a few cups of black coffee a day and recently a Monster every now and again. The issue is, I think that the caffeine is starting to wreck my sleeping patterns and cause my sleep paralysis to become more routine. I'm going to try my best to stop drinking as much of the stuff, despite that the fact that I enjoy a good cup of dark roast immensely.

Goodbye coffee!

I love coffee too!
I drink whole beans I grind myself. My favourite brand is Kicking Horse coffee.
It's a Canadian coffee roaster (not grower) and it's fair trade. It's also probably the best coffee readily available in stores here.

Though it's expensive at $16 a pound.

If you can find some I highly recommend it!

And here's some upbeat electro swing

Thought I should add some happy songs to this thread. So that is what I am doing. Going through a Frank Turner binge (Saw him live twice) so here is some of his super happy songs.
