We may all come to a time when a scene in a video game can evoke shock or leaving us perhaps question our own morals.

For example: Let's take a look at the ending for Command and Conquer:Red Alert.

This scene in particular was very cold, and was quite a poignant ending to an otherwise action focused game. And I did feel sorry for the Private ("Geez. Louise!") who had to leave him to die. I wonder whether I could deal with his responsibilties, however many atrocities Stalin may have caused.

But what scenes do you think can compare to this? How did they affect you personally?

Coldest, ey?

Shame on me for reading wrong.

Well then, as coldest I shall choose... All those badass scenes from Saints Row 2.

One-third of the way into Final Fantasy VII. Not wanting to spoil anything, but most of you should know what I'm talking about. Saw that bit when i was about ten years old and was shocked for weeks.

Didn't even knew they made swords that 'effin long, sheesh!

BananaSauce, that game is so old I'm not even going to spoilertag it.
AERIS GETS BACKSTABBED WITH A HUGE SWORD

There are some really cold moments in Phoenix Wright before the endings, but those always pull through so maybe don't count as much.
Brothers in Arms also has its share of cold moments pretty much whenever somebody dies.
Far Cry 2, if you paid attention to the plot, ends on some somewhat tragic notes.

I'd have to say the end of 'Loose ends' from Modern Warfare 2 is pretty damn cold. Also the scene in Prototype when Alex finds his (ex)girlfriend

The battle with Mother Brain from Super Metroid.
In Metroid II: Return of Samus, Samus was ordered to exterminate every metroid on planet SR388. At the end of her mission, she spared the final infant metroid for what might have been more maternal instinct than scientific curiosity.

Seeing that metroid fly in and save Samus' life really makes you question her mission. Maybe that particular metroid was just acting on instinct to protect its "mother", but what if it wasn't? Do we still have the right to genocide if they're capable of such sacrifice?

Fucking up Matt's hand in Saints Row 2.

Burying Shogo alive? yeah, that's harsh, but he was another gangster, he chose to escalate the conflict, and he was a prize dick.
Executing Julius? Dude blew you up. He needed a bullet between the eyes.

Matt was just someone who knew Maero, he wasn't in on anything, he was the closest thing to an innocent bystander the storylines had.

(Never mind all those randoms you run over because it's too much effort to turn an they don't get out of the way fast enough, they don't have names so they're not important)

Alastair shouting at me in Dragon Age after I (Redcliffe spoilers)
Sacrificed Lady Isolde.
Y'see, Alastair is perhaps my favourite character in that game, and the mix of him shouting, and -20 approval points, well, let's say it didn't go down well. And I saved after I made the decision.

Bollocks.

Fallout 3, blowing up Megaton.

You just blew up one of the last remaining hubs of peaceful human existance, watching the horrible destruction from the comfort of Tenpenny Tower. It proved to me once and forever that I really have to force myself to play an evil character.

Wow, you sir just won the thread, I can't imagine a more desensitizing game than that. "One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic." Ice-cold.

Höhöhö!

OT: I thought getting rid of Yoshi, just to get to the bonus level was pretty cold.

Fun aside Super Metroid, Space Spoons pretty much sums everything up.

I really felt bad when I had to kill my time shadows in Braid to solve a puzzle. When they just stand there after their function runs out, they put of such a sad face it tore at my heart strings.
