I would say that's a standard collectors edition. But ACTION FIGURE? Come ooon that's too lame.
It's a figurine not an action figure.

An ornamental figurine does have some appeal to adults and collects, but an action figure would truly be lame, since the game will probably be rated 18+ and how many adults would still play with a action figure?

Really it's just the same as the Fallout 3 Bobble-Head figurine, and isn't suppose to appeal to kids.

I like to get Collector`s edition of games but if it is just a making of and tin box I won`t waste my money, the best Collector`s edition I have bought would have to be Halo 3 Legendary edition.

Yeah, maybe so, but you still wouldn't really class it as a toy, considering where it's from.

I like collectors editions, depending on the game, i find it interesting to go through the behind the scenes interviews, the tin case, art books, and the occasional extra content.

RE5's content sounds worth the money, if you have an interest about that stuff, if you don't, just buy the standard version.

poor people should stop standing around QQ about their money problems and get a job to solve them =/.
I don't think I ever QQ'ed about money problems, but thanks for the concern. It was more a matter of, "Is this cheaply made stuff that's going to waste away on a shelf or get thrown out by your mom/spouse/housekeeper/underwear gnome worth the money to you and why?" Not, ZOMG I have no money and am jealous of your awesome lootz!!1

Edit: Also, damn it's late. Stupid WAR scenarios. Off to bed with me.

I've got a spiffy-looking statue of Julius Caesar and priority access for the Hearts of Iron 3 beta thanks to the fact that I ordered Europa Universalis:Rome's collector's edition. I also got to download the game on GamersGate as soon as it released rather than wait for my game to ship all the way from Sweden (as it turned out I ended up playing the game for two weeks before I even got the disc.) Access to the Collector's Edition forum at Paradox also means I get to hear what the developers are up to (the Vae Victis expansion was discussed by the devs before the public got to hear about some of the stuff).

Paradox treats its customers right, so I'll continue to buy their Collector's Editions in the future.

Yeah but that bobblehead is an actual in-game item, not a tiny plastic main character.

Well I don't know about that (Not a big RE fan), but not all Special Editions are crappy.Take for example the <a=http://store.introversion.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=61>"Multiwinia Limited Edition Box Set":

It comes with a gigantic metal case, a bunch of cool postcards (which I still have tacked to my wall), a limited edition art book describing the evolution of the Darwinia universe, a couple of Foamwinians (which kick ass) and a copy of the game's predecessor, Darwinia. Quite a deal for only £25 / $41.50 / €33.25 (Regular edition: £10 / $16.60 / €13.30 -and double that for the free copy of Darwinia)

The God of War 2 special edition was great. The extras on it were nearly as long as the extended LOTR trilogy :D
I don't think there's a collector's edition of that game.
EDIT:
Well I'll be damned. There is one. It's just that America didn't get a collector's edition. All American copies had two discs.
Yeah, I'm Irish so was able to get a copy. It's really really cool, the box art is stunning. PLus you get hours of extras, right down to designing the levels and recording the score. really great for 70 Euros!

In-game content is the only reason I see to get a collector's edition. Most of the "extras" that come with them in other cases are either made out of cheap plastic or a soundtrack.

Jade Empire CE had an extra character, albeit a cheap reskin of an existing one.

Doom 3 had the Previouw Doom games and some other neat stuff.

MGS4 game with a demo for MGO beta testing.

So yeah sometimes it's worth it. But don't expect me to get suckered in by a shiny tin or holofoil case. It's what's inside that counts.

I rarely buy the collector's edition, even if I really like the series. The only special edition I've ever bought was STALKER Clear Sky, and that was because there were no normal ones in stock. Still, I like the pictures of the Chernobyl area on the bonus CD. I just wish it came with a Snork figurine. >_>

On roughly the same subject, have you heard about the Halo Wars Special Edition? They some to have done a pretty good job filling it with stuff to make people like me act irrational.

As far as Collector's editions go, I've occassionally bought one. As an illustrator, art books are always a good source of inspiration. As are making-of's, provided they show a good deal of the thought process behind the game.
There's my reason for buying collector's editions, and RE5 doesn't look like it'll do the trick for me.

What i don't get is why limited editions never run out...
Actually, some of them do.

500 copies of Stalker:CS sold out in 24h [pre-orders, ~1 month before launch :d] and that was it...
1000 copies of Wither sold out 2-3 weeks before the game's launch.

Now they're worth 150-200% of their original price, sometimes more.

What listed are actual limited editions, numbered and all. Most of the stuff that's called "limited" is limited by demand only >.>

OT:
I've got some Collector's Editions of games, but I only buy them if they're: 1. On sale/cheap 2.Include some really cool stuff that could be worth some $ on it's own [t-shirts and figurines can be sold for good money :d]

It really does depend on the content. Fallout 3 is the best example, but the Survival Edition was a bit too nerdy for me to consider buying, I'm afraid. Seriously, I then might as well get a WoW baseballcap, a Counter-Strike T-Shirt (or maybe the original RE4 outfit - although I gotta admit Leon's jacket looked pretty sweet :p), run around with a 120$ plastic-lancer and get a tattoo on my face saying "NERD".

I'm getting carried away. Really, its the content that's important, if it's decent, might look nice on a shelf at home and doesn't look too geeky, why not.

Edit: I don't consider Making-Ofs or bonus videos worth buying. Not that I'm not interested in that kind of stuff, but there's the internet... someone's gonna upload it sooner or later.
