What I think is funny is that the collector's edition of Donkey Kong 64 is far more common than the regular version. I even remember people starting to wonder if there even was a regular version with just a simple gray cartridge. One person was able to find such a thing. The special "yellow" version seems to have a lot more copies. Strange, isn't it? GRRRR!

I have the yellow version but didn't it come with the rumble pack right or was it the memory card?

I buy Collector's Editions if I really love a series, but they're usually not worth the price. The Witcher 2 CE was pretty good with all the props inside, like coins, a map, a letter, etc, plus the soundtrack and all. The Bioshock 2 CE was great as well, the soundtrack on vinyl was a great idea and the art book was gorgeous. I knew the Skyrim CE wasn't worth it, but for some reason I couldn't help myself and bought it anyway. I was right, it really wasn't worth the price.

Anyone got any upcoming CEs that look interesting, I was sorta interested in GW2 CE or Darksiders 2 CE but the single use items in GW2 sorta turned me away from that and I have not beaten Darksiders 1 yet

I have the RE5 one, against my wishes.

I wanted to get the game, but the only new copy the shop had was the collectors edition. It was the same price as the regular one, but came in a metal case. Unfortunately, that was the only cool-ish thing about it.

The other stuff that came with it was pure junk. Poorly manufactured trinkets like a necklace, a figure, and a "messenger" bag.

In retrospect I should have passed on it, but I was in a hurry to get it home and play the co-op with a friend of mine.

I think the value of a collectors edition is relative to how mad you are for the series

well they are cool but only if it comes with something good. My idea is that every collectors edition must come with the standard artbook and soundtrack and the extra stuff should be a figurine/plushie of good enough quality, an in-game item(s) or "feelie(s)" like an object of clothing (such as Vincent's shorts and shirt from Catherine) or an in game item (like again from Catherine the stray sheep pizza box), and maybe an accessory like a special controller case or something or at the very least stickers that you will either never use or stick on the wrong thing and regret having to remove.

I'm ok with in game stuff like getting an extra item early or another map or character skin but only if it would be attainable via normal gameplay after a certain point. I hate missing out on things like that just because i didn't buy it early.

If I had the money i'd preoreder games for system I don't even own yet.

[small][small]I think I might eventually have a problem[/small][/small]

(1) Typically a complete waste of money. And they never fit on the shelf neatly with your other games.

The only reason I would buy one would be if I absolutely LOVED a game. But how do I know if I love it until AFTER I've played it for a few weeks, thought about it fondly for a few months, and then realized I love it?

I would buy a collector's edition of Panzer Dragoon Saga. But would I have bought one on day one? No. Collector's editions should be released months after the initial release. How shitty is it to get stuck with a collector's edition of a crappy game just because you loved previous versions of it?

Hmm I don't know if CEs should be released later because what are the people who preordered a CE going to do until the CE is released? I mean I can understand if they can download the game if it were on the PC but what if the game is on a console and your console is full memory-wise.

Best collectors edition I ever got. Baldurs gate 2 CE. Bonus items, that weren't just handed to you, you still had to earn the gold to get them and a t-shirt with the symbol of ahm on it. Kick ass.

I'd love to buy them if they had things I wanted in it for a reasonable price. Catherine is my favorite CE since it had physical goodies and only cost an extra $20. To me that is a perfect collectors edition. Besides a lot of games come with artbooks and/or soundtracks as preorder bonus, I can't imagine paying $90 for them and some figurine.

If it's a series I love, then yeah, I'll happily get the CE and send the extra couple bucks to the guys who made it. In fact a few days ago, I pre-ordered the CE for prototype 2. I loved the first and this looks really damn promising, so I'll happily pay the extra amount. Especially when it actually seems worth it in extra stuff, which I think is the case with this one.

I like my collectors editions. BUT, it infuriates me when they do 'store exclusive' ones though, where they split up a whole bunch of things so the only way to get them all would be to put down 4-5 different pre-orders. That idea can rot in hell.

There are some pretty good CEs. For example, Dead Space 2 has a port of Extraction. From the same company though, the content for the Dante's Inferno CE was just as bad as the game. They're very hit-and-miss. Sometimes I get them because of the DLC and swag, but sometimes they do legitimately have bonus content that makes you wonder why anyone would buy the non-CE.

For Dante's Inferno I go the unholy edition (or something to that degree) and never knew it had a CE so I wanna check that out for a chuckle.
*Edit*
Ok so the ps3 version was what I got and it was the Divine Edition and I think I got that when it was like $20.

I have a couple of collector's editions, Mass Effect 3's and Dead Rising 2's, and I'm happy with both of them.

I would have to diagnose you as insane if you buy the Resident Evil 6 one though.

I am excited for Resident Evil 6, Leon is my favorite character but I do not believe Capcom would put a definite price like that for RE6. If anything this is either a troll reply or just some way for them to get a little bit of attention. It's working for me cause now I gotta do some looking up on the game.

I'm getting Diablo 3's CE. The first CE I'll have ever gotten.
In-game bonuses.

I never got the Blizzard CEs anymore because they all seem to just tie in with WoW, like SC2 CE had the mini Thor pet (with an achievement to match the pet)
But maybe I am just nitpicking on that.
