Comedians you just don't get

Comedy's a pretty subjective thing. There are some comedians I love, some I don't get, and some that I think are plain awful. We've done "favorite comedian" threads, this is different. Who don't you really get?

Personally, I don't get Frank Caliendo. It seems like to me all he does is impressions of George W. Bush and John Madden over and over again with sprinkles of occasional other celebrities to throw us off. Seriously, Bush jokes have been (in general) lame for a good four to six years now, and Madden jokes have been overdone for even longer. What's his appeal?

I actually like Frank Caliendo. Not when he's imatating Madden for the thousandth time in one show, but when he does other celebrities. For example, his Robert De Niro and Chris Farley impressions are really funny.

Can anyone explain the unusually large amount of black comedians who show up on comedy central presents and all they do are jokes about the differences in whites and blacks?

I think you mean Gilbert Gottfried. But no, God's not gonna strike you down. I've heard a couple of his stand-up bits. He's kind of one of those "jokey" comedians that should have died when Lenny Bruce picked up a microphone. And yet, he continues to exist.

Oh, and in response to the above about Jerry Seinfeld? Uh... his show is awesome. I really don't think there will be another sitcom in our lives that will be as interesting or groundbreaking. Oh, and his stand-up? I guess it's kind of similar to other people's, but he did do it first, and did it better than a lot of comedians who have followed in his footsteps.

Al Frankin: No you're not good enough or smart enough, and people don't like you as much as you think.

Jerry Seinfeld: Not "bad", but just gets old after awhile.

Ben Stiller: See one of his movies, see them all. Usually the other characters are more funny. See Dodgeball!

Jerry Stiller: yells more then Lewis Black, with less fun.

Larry the Cable Guy - Redneck humor is a tough sell to non-rednecks, only one I ever could enjoy was Foxworthy and only in small doses.
I second that. However have you ever watched Ron White a.k.a. tater salad, he's on the blue collar comedy tour but he's easily twice as good as all the others combined.

Agreed. He has more talent that the other three put together, counting Engval twice.

Many comedians that I don't like I chalk up to "not getting it/not being the target audience."

However. Not when it comes to Larry the Cable Guy. I kind of like some of the "blue collar" comedy. Bill Engvall and Jeff Foxworthy are funny guys, if a bit predictable. But Larry? Homophobic and racist, he spews the lowest common denominator sort of stuff you should have grown out of by the age of 12. (at least!)

I've always been a fan of David Cross, but when I saw his open letter to Larry the Cable Guy, I fell in love all over again. Here it is: http://www.bobanddavid.com/2007/10/an_open_letter_to_larry_the_ca.html

Lewis Black, yelling, that's how you get people to like your stuff.
It works witrh Bill O'Reilly and Old People
NICE!!!

Dane Cook was funny in 2001, but I still can't figure out why people still laugh at his recycled jokes?

Carlos Mencia...is it really that funny to have all your jokes be based on racial/cultural differences???

Jeff Dunham...sure puppets are funny, but how funny are you when you're laughing at half of the jokes you tell???
