Chocolate News with David Allen Grier...You aren't Dave Chappelle and you never will be. Please stop trying. He isnt even someone you should want to be.

I saw Janene Garoffolo (Sp, I really dont care) at Bonnaroo. She had to carry around a notebook, did nothing but complain about men and Bush and people began to walk out, she did so bad she had to pull the other 2 performers back onstage (including Mike Birbiglia who is one of my favorites) You know you suck at your job when you cant get a crowd of liberal hippies to laugh at your George W. jokes.

If I see another of those Frank Caliendo DirecTV adds I might hurt someone.

Also I really really dislike Steven Wright

John Scogin. Apparently one of his favorite jokes is when when he trapped a bunch of homeless people in burning building and blamed them for it.

Andy Kaufman. That guy is messed up. One his odder jokes was to read the entirety of The Great Gatsby at a concert.

I haven't seen everything Lewis Black or Al Franken did, but what I saw a liked. Yes, I know Al Franken is really big jerk in real life.

Jerry Seinfield is very hit-or-miss.

Will Anderson (australians will know him) seems so forced so that his offensive jokes end up sounding more offensive than funny.

Similarly, Dave Hughes is not funny. Just stupid. He tries to get laughs through his personality rather than his jokes. Neither are good. You can see when he's really struggling he'll just shout more and expect us to laugh more.

Larry the Cable Guy - Redneck humor is a tough sell to non-rednecks, only one I ever could enjoy was Foxworthy and only in small doses.
I second that. However have you ever watched Ron White a.k.a. tater salad, he's on the blue collar comedy tour but he's easily twice as good as all the others combined.
I agree that Ron White is the best of the group, but I think Larry The Cable Guy gets a bad wrap. He is so dedicated to his character that people really think thats who he really is. He does fairly intelligent jokes, but that accent and character kill it for me (and I'm assuming many of you as well).

Jeff Dunham...sure puppets are funny, but how funny are you when you're laughing at half of the jokes you tell???
THANK YOU! I saw that Christmas Special he did and he couldnt go 10 minuts without cracking up and stopping the whole show. I think that would be what Jimmy Fallon would be like if he did stand-up. Oh yea. I HATE Jimmy Fallon with a passion.

I don't feel I need to reel off a whole list of racist, homophobic, misogynistic and generally downright offensive comedians because they're obviously not the sort of thing that appeals to anyone except readers of the Daily Star so it kinda goes without saying... so, simply sticking with stuff that's popular among people I usually agree with:

I will never understand the appeal of Jimmy Carr or Ricky Gervais. People have tried and failed. I've seen their live DVDs through with nary a flicker of a smile passing my lips and... well, enough rambling, I simply don't find 'em funny.

Jeff Foxworthy -- His last Blue Collar Tour? Just a hundred variations of the "You might be a Redneck" joke. Not impressed.

Carlos Mencia -- While I appreciate his courage to willingly say such things that both the identifiable public as well as internet anonymous will bash him for if they disagree, his joke-stealing has gone too far. Who else here knows that he stole his "football player son" joke from Bill Cosby?

Bill Maher -- His humor is hit-or-miss; sometimes funny, sometimes not. I think his ideas and views on the world are very insightful, though.

I quasi-agree on Ricky Gervais. His stand-up isn't that great. However, The Office (British version obviously) and Extras are both really, really funny. David Brent is hands down one of my favorite characters ever. That's the kind of stuff he should stick to.

Edit: I'm also kind of curious about all the people who don't care for Dave Chappelle and other black comedians who simply "talk about race." Sure, it gets old sometimes, but that's when it's done by "not good" comedians. Chappelle, I think, is good. I saw him live actually, and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Oh, and I don't think he's as racially charged as some claim. Most of his famous bits have almost nothing to do with race.

Plus, people who complain he can say words that white people would get ostracized for... well, are you serious? Do you really want to use the N-word? Go learn something about the history of racism and how minority groups often "reclaim" formerly derogatory words to empower themselves. Other example? Notice how homosexual groups often label themselves as "queer"? That's not really an empowering word, but it becomes so when they turn it around and reclaim it for their own use. It really takes the fire out of calling someone a name when they say, "yeah, you're right, I am a _____"

I see alot of Ron White supporters out here.
He is pretty funny, but out of the Blue Collar guys I like Engval more.
Ron White dosen't have much besides "tater salad", also he towards the end he starts just rambling(could be the constant supply of whisky).

Can anyone explain the unusually large amount of black comedians who show up on comedy central presents and all they do are jokes about the differences in whites and blacks?
Because they come from a population of people which has constantly been reminded of these differences (and almost always never for purposes which could be considered humorous) for almost half a millennium?

Are you really asking this question?
Are you really asking why he's asking that question? Providing justification for this sort of racism will only make the problem continue, not diminish.

For all the people on this thread who say, 'I don't like Dane Cook,' I concur. I also think he deals with hecklers without class- he just says to them, 'Oh, you're fucking ruining the experience for everyone and you're not being funny- security, security!'

....The best comedians tell off hecklers with razor-sharp wit (see Mitch Hedberg).

I can understand where your coming from, but I remember a situation where he dealed with it comicly. Though it wasn't a heckler it was some guy who ran on stage.

I have yet to see any user on this forum discuss the sociological and cultural implications of race on this forum in any manner other than the "oh lord i am the persecuted hegemony i have it so hard!!111," so perhaps you will surprise me and tell me all about how you believe these comedians are being racist and how this is a "problem" which will continue and not diminish.

I would love to be impressed at least once around here.
You noticed that too? I thought it was just me. For every reverse racist comedian, you can find a dozen more racist ones. This is coming from someone who had to sit through I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry on a plane.

All kidding aside, trying to ironically reclaim racist stereotypes never works because it lets the racists frame the debate.

And back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Black people are massive racists and they're evil and they're taking all our jobs with all of their affirmative actions and women are out to get us oh god the world is SO HARSH how come black people get to call each other the n word and i can't without getting sued for liek $303904 billion dollars by the evil lawyers and i can't even hold the door for a woman without being savagely attacked by her and being sued for liek $30239232056879 quadrillion pesos by the evil lawyers!

This is pretty much a perfect summary of what the entire forum (or at least the most prolific posters anyway) actually believes.

Hooray. Hyperbole. I know our views of pretty much everything lie on almost complete opposite sides of the spectrum, but honestly. Not everyone is like that. Sure, there are a few now and then, but for the most part people at least try to present their arguments in a reasonable fashion.
