And back to our regularly scheduled programming:

Black people are massive racists and they're evil and they're taking all our jobs with all of their affirmative actions and women are out to get us oh god the world is SO HARSH how come black people get to call each other the n word and i can't without getting sued for liek $303904 billion dollars by the evil lawyers and i can't even hold the door for a woman without being savagely attacked by her and being sued for liek $30239232056879 quadrillion pesos by the evil lawyers!

This is pretty much a perfect summary of what the entire forum (or at least the most prolific posters anyway) actually believes.

gg guys
gg
Why do you think that the 'most prolific posters' on this forum actually believe what you just said? What posts did we make that even hinted at such beliefs on race?

Please, don't insult our intelligence by stating such things....

The thing is, comedians can really joke about whatever they want- it doesn't matter. I think that some of the other posters here were wondering why certain comedians focus solely on topics like race instead of having more varied routines.

An analogy for this would be if a food critic only reviewed one dish at one restaurant for his entire career. Sure, if he's a good reviewer, each review might be entertaining, but the audience would always wish that the critic was broader in his reviewerly palette.

EDIT: And, about racism being a problem, it is. Discrimination toward or against any race is inexcusable, and I have never said anything to the contrary.

I've never found Family Guy funny. The writing is just so bland, and the jokes make me want to gag. American Dad, on the other hand, is a laugh riot. The episodes seem to keep getting better.

As for individual comedians, I really don't find Seinfeld funny at all.
I'll agree with you on the Family Guy front, though I do like the show. My favorite is actually Futurama, however. It just has such awesome humor, and also awesome recurring characters, such as the aliens from Omicron Persei 8.

As far as comedians go, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry the Cable Guy and Carlos Mencia are some of my least favorites (I also don't like Jeff Dunham). Probably my favorite comedian currently is John Pinette. No one can call him out for making fun of anyone, because he mostly makes fun of himself.

I don't get Robin Williams. If I watch a show of his, about half way through I start to get little chuckles, but Ive figured that one out - it's a series of mildly funny jokes and words again and again and again.

That said I think if you spend enough time on the internet you hear all the jokes before the comedian gets anywhere near you, so one tends not to find them as funny.

Other comedians I don't like include Fiona O'Lachlan (which I don't think I spelled correctly) - she could be funny if she didn't only tell jokes about bad sex and her kids. Usually unrelated by the way. Jerry Seinfeld (again, repetition - watching the early shows when I was younger was hilarious but now, not so much). And Chris Rock.

Chris deserves some special attention though, he's funny because he says funny things, but he narks me off severely when he gets into the full-on-im-a-******-in-the-street routine (remember the baby selling crack/trying to make a living joke?). It's funny but it annoys me more because no "white guy" could get away with that.

Futurama > Family Guy. Though family guy has some great moments, I tend to prefer the undertone stories over the split second comedies (i.e. stewie as a megalomaniac rather than the 2 second sketch of peter farting at a window or whatever happens).

But hey, just the opinion of one guy.

Edit: What a failure of a 300th post :/

If I never have to see a Jack Black movie ever again, I'll die happy.

For standup, I'd say Russel Brand and Chris Rock are two of the least funny comedians ever to grace a stage. Seinfeld's standup is pretty weak, though his show was decent.

Dane Cook. When I want humor, I expect humor, not just random talking.
Sure, he's funny once in a while, but he's no Demitri Martin (proof that a high IQ actually helps comedians).

One comedian, if comedian he can indeed be called, is Harry Hill. I just don't understand why people find him funny. he seems to want to try and parody things, but his ridiculous voice and uterly lame punchlines fail to amuse me.
Jimmy Carr, on the other hand, is brilliant. And Denis Leary

Jeez, I completely agree. It seems that he thinks wearing big glasses and doing the poppy-eyes thing is funny. Why the hell is he still on TV?

I don't feel I need to reel off a whole list of racist, homophobic, misogynistic and generally downright offensive comedians because they're obviously not the sort of thing that appeals to anyone except readers of the Daily Star so it kinda goes without saying... so, simply sticking with stuff that's popular among people I usually agree with:

I will never understand the appeal of Jimmy Carr or Ricky Gervais. People have tried and failed. I've seen their live DVDs through with nary a flicker of a smile passing my lips and... well, enough rambling, I simply don't find 'em funny.
So is there anything funny to you? Furthermore EVERYONE IS A RACIST/SEXIST/ to some small extent. Anyone who disagrees with that is either wrong or is an optimistic fool.

I really have no idea, but did you know he's a fully qualified GP? Now that would be a terrifying checkup.

Also Ricky Gervais, that melanoma on the skin of comedy, is so over-rated that I actually feel my IQ drop out of sheer boredom whenever I watch his stuff. It might just be me (as evidenced by the popularity of his shows) but the man does crap stand up and boring, boring sketches. I simple don't get The Office at all, I haven't even bothered with Extras.

I did like his act at the Princess Diana Memorial concert last year, you know, the one where he died a painful and public death on stage.

Also, I never got the Royal Family, that was just half hour episodes of sheer mediocrity.

To get over these I just go and watch MTW, funniest show on TV, period.

Wouldn't say I don't get them, but the comedians I just don't like:
Jerry Seinfeld - He's not funny, he's retarded, and not in the way some retards can be funny. How this curly-haired corpse got a TV sitcom is beyond me.
Dave Chappelle - Everything a white person would be crucified for saying, he gets to say and all of a sudden it's hilarious? This guy is an anti-white racist, and needs to be taken off the air.
Martin Lawrence - Chappelle Light, again racist or just plain retarded, no comedic value.
Larry the Cable Guy - Redneck humor is a tough sell to non-rednecks, only one I ever could enjoy was Foxworthy and only in small doses.
Roseanne Bar - If I could sit through five minutes of her comedy or sitcom without trying to pierce my ear drums with an abortion-grade coathanger, it would be a miracle. She's not funny, and her voice is piercing.
Chapelle is great. I dont think he is racist at all. I mean cmon a skit about a blind KKK leader who doesnt even know hes black?? Hilarity.

I sympathise with you on Ricky Gervais. The man is just utterly stale and boring.
The Royle Family (sp?) I think is meant to be funny for its mediocrity, a lighthearted poke at the dullness of everyday life.

Yeah I got that but still, failed to find it funny. It maybe because me and most my friends come from that exact type of background, but to us it just missed the mark completely.

Now my aunty who has a big house and a cushty job, she found it hilarious... Wierd huh.

(Also thanks for the spelling correction, I was sure I had it wrong.)

David Chappelle, Black Jokes arn't funny to me. I'm not black. White jokes arn't funny to me, racism as a form of humor is only appealing to the average joe who is part of the system and experiances or deep down wants to be at that level of racism.

Carlos Mencia, he makes me think of a angry forum troll who somehow got a TV show. He does not amuse me and just makes me think he is the Mexican David Chappelle. Stereo types arn't funny enough to get their own dedicated TV show.

Dane Cook, Jokes are funny for a while but once i've heard them from everyone around me 1000 times over you stop being even slightly amusing but i don't blame Cook he would rather be doing Movies then Comedy anyways, makes me think he hates his own jokes.

Lewis Black, RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE that was my impression of Lewis black

Adam Sandler, I talk funny sometimes and make movies and sing songs! Oh yeah i am also jewish! He is funny for a while but after that while has passed it is like "Yeah... but can you do anything thats funny?"

Larry the Redneck Comedian guy with one punchline for everything, You say a joke that is mostly appealing to Rednecks and it worth a light chuckle at best but then you say "Get Err Dun" and all of a sudden it is comedic gold? No, i'm sorry you're riding on Fox Worthies tailcoat but atleast he has moved onto other things.

George Lopez but atleast he is trying to save himself with that TV show on Nick at night that nobody but my grandmother watchs.

Mitch Hedberg, BEFORE you crucify me for saying this understand that i do GET and LIKE Mitchs stuff i am just curious. Would he still be such a great Comedian if he didn't die? what would have happaned? thats what i don't get.

One of the few comedians i like are Demetri Martin, i'm rather picky sometimes.

Ricky Gervais. I find him irritating. The small amount of humour he exudes is quickly lost in his milking of the crowd and pampering his ego.
And the majority of comediennes. I don't find their vulgarity amusing.

Ricky Gervais - cocky, arrogant, over the top and over the line without ever once being funny. To this day, I believe he wasn't acting in The Office (which is overrated in my opinion) - he just IS david Brent.

Russel Brand - there's something just unbelievably irritating about him.

Also Dane Cook... no. Just no.
