I'm with you all the way on Garfield. It's actually funnier without Garfield in it.
Yeah, Garfield minus Garfield [http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/] is pretty funny. In a depressing, insanity kind of way.

First, I've thought Garfield has been on a roll lately.
So, yeah: Family Circus is #1 on my list.
I guess non-sequtor.

Someone obviously likes the comics or they wouldn't be syndicated anymore.

Your have your opinion other people have theirs. I don't like a lot of the music that is popular these days, but I still understand that being popular means a lot of people do like them.

Besides the comics have to as inoffensive as possible. I also really doubt you are part of the news papers target audience.
It seems like a lot of comics are still around because their fan base is so large, not because they're 'good' or anything. Peanuts, Marmaduke, Dennis the Menace, etc.
Charles Shultz is dead.
I'm surprised your paper hasn't dropped it.
The tributes have stopped.

DOONESBURY! Not even a comic, just liberal propaganda. I so miss The Far Side and Bloom County days.

Fox Trot is hilarious.

Watchoo' talkin' bout?
Agreed big time, part of my newspaper comic trinity along with Calvin & Hobbes and Bloom County.

On topic, Marvin is just saccharine yet plain wrong, Cathy recycled the same joke for the past several years (at a very conservative estimate), and I hate Mallard Fillmore for well-documented reasons.

Did you know that 70% of cartoonist have I.D.S
I.D.S Immediant Death Syndrome, a disorder that makes it so that the victim is literally on the brink of death for 80 to 100 years, and it puts us all in an awkard postition where we want their last days to be happy, but we feel cheated when they dont die
I don't read the funnies really, but I've started reading the boondocks, it's funny, and already done so does't apply.

I completely agree with you on fricking Rose is Rose. Every time I read it I want to murder the characters with my bare hands.
There is a mere handful of good strips. The two best are Pearls Before Swine and Dilbert.
Hear Hear! this is exactly what i was going to say, i have to read my dilbert and pearls every day, but also im finding Argyle Sweater to be funny, its new on the yahoo news for me and its SO much like far side in so many ways, including the funny part! I'll also read close to home, foxtrot, in the bleachers (also very funny), what the duck (another new, but often funny one), and.. couple other single panel comics. Get Fuzzy anyone ?

I really think that any comic that has been around for more than 10 years is probably past it's prime and totally out of material. In saying that I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I love Dilbert, possibly because I basically am Dilbert if you substitute the word "Programmer" for "Engineer".

Just read the Comics Curmudgeon [http://joshreads.com/], he'll be happy to say pretty much all I have to say, and say it wittier than I ever could.

Sherman's Lagoon and Fox Trot are just about the only newspaper comics that I still like, most of the rest can go die in a fire. ESPECIALLY Zippy the Pinhead. Depending on how you look at it, it's either completely divoriced from rational thought (not to mention humor), or it's pretentious arty bullshit. Or for some reason you actually like it, in which case you probably also think Holden Caulfield was really deep. /unfoundedaccusation

I kinda like some of these comics. Ya gotta have a taste for camp when reading newspaper comics. Also if your really snarky or into snark humor(who isn't?) you should go here. http://joshreads.com/ he does a pretty good job taking the piss out of most of the comics you put down as being badly made.

On a personal note cathy drives me mad.

This post made me laugh harder than anything I have seen from B.C.

I would say get rid of Marmaduke, but at least we have Marmaduke Explained. [http://www.29-95.com/time-suck/comic-strip/marmaduke-explained]

I agree on Family Circus. I believe that was mentioned on the movie, "Go" at one point also. It's just sort of there in the middle of the page, waiting to suck. (and like a train wreck you can't avert your eyes.)

Engineers in my dept always put up comics with words crossed out and replaced with people or products in our area. Its scary how close they are to reality then.

OT: Agreed and allow me to add to the list: Red and Rover (Calvin and Hobbes rip off) and Baldo.
