I don't know about you, but I read the comics fairly regularly. I also notice that the vast majority of the strips they run are either completely unfunny, moderately unfunny or are just completely unoriginal. Here's a quick list of comics that need to go (and a little reason why).

Family Circus - This is the anti-funny. There are literally no punch lines. Check out last sundays: http://www.arcamax.com/newspics/11/1191/119112.gif
HOW THEY HELL IS THAT FUNNY? As much as I respect the great history behind the comic, it died a long, long time ago.

Rose is fucking Rose - I don't even know. Everything about this comic is horribly shitty. They have (most likely) inbred son that prances around with rainbows and smily faces and candy canes floating around him. They punch lines are in no way funny and usually just "borrowed" from other strips. The characters are probably on anti-depressants or salvia the entire time. Everything is so idyllic and perfect its sickening. http://comics.com/rose_is_rose/2010-05-04/
ha. ha. ha. *gunshot*

For Better or For Worse - I'm sorry, but middle-aged housewives are not interesting or remotely funny. The only people that find this strip legitimately humorous are, coincidence, middle-aged housewives.

Garfield - I'll probably get flamed for this one. Really, though, when was the last time one of these made you laugh? And not the normal, respectful chuckle. I mean actually gets you to snicker a decent amount. I don't think its an inherently bad strip, I just think they've run out of ideas.

Family Tree - Far-left propaganda. Less comic and more "look at us were so alternative and indie because we support the environment". Unfunny. Only makes people on the left look worse. Because it makes them look retarded.

That's all I have time for right now. I know there are a LOT more I could add (Marmaduke and B.C. come to my head). Got any more comics that should die?

Close to Home - a shitty version of the Far Side. It's never funny, and the artwork is terrible.

I don't read the comics any more, as I don't find any of them funny.

Someone obviously likes the comics or they wouldn't be syndicated anymore.

Your have your opinion other people have theirs. I don't like a lot of the music that is popular these days, but I still understand that being popular means a lot of people do like them.

Besides the comics have to as inoffensive as possible. I also really doubt you are part of the news papers target audience.

Stop buying newspapers, all of these comics will die.

OT: I like Garfield, but mostly for the Garfield minus Garfield idea.

Mallard Fillmore also needs to die because it's Right-Wingers trying to be funny about Left-Wingers. Mind you, I'm a Republican, but I'm not crazy right-wing.

On the same grounds, Doonesbury also should die.

It seems like a lot of comics are still around because their fan base is so large, not because they're 'good' or anything. Peanuts, Marmaduke, Dennis the Menace, etc.

I'm with you all the way on Garfield. It's actually funnier without Garfield in it.

So....?

Good is subjective. If a comic has an enduring fanbase that has stuck with the comic enough to keep it syndicated longer then you have been alive then they are probably doing something right. All you are doing here is complaining that people have no taste because they don't have the same taste in things you do. Still to throw you a bone, these comics appeal to a different generation then your's, and when my parents generation is busy pushing up daisies then they just might throw comics that appeal more towards your generation in the paper. As it is they have unoffensive popular comics sitting there. Remember they have to pay to print those comics in their paper, if nobody wanted to see them, they wouldn't pay for them.

I haven't found any comic that appears in a newspaper funny since.....did I ever find them funny? Perhaps less boring than I'd be if I was staring at a blank paper without the pictures on them.

I do like comics, however. I like finding little gems that can still make me actually laugh out loud on occasion, which, in itself is a rare feat as I have a rather internal character. While other people scream on roller coasters, I'm the guy whose face is extremely passive as I think "Yes, this is fun. I am amused." I feel the thrill, I just don't outwardly show it.

Anyway, my most recent find has been this comic http://www.bugcomic.com/comics/spot-the-immigrant/

I don't think I've even seen a bad one of that one yet. They always at least breach the mildly amusing barrier, and oftentimes shoot far, far past it.

Hi and Fucking Lois. They try to relate to teenagers in this age, but they fucking can't. The punch lines are horrible and everyone is so fucking perfect.

I completely agree with you on fricking Rose is Rose. Every time I read it I want to murder the characters with my bare hands.
There is a mere handful of good strips. The two best are Pearls Before Swine and Dilbert.

Cyanide and Happiness?

Moar liek Calvin and Hobbes ^_^

Too bad t died a while back :(
I'm just glad Calvin and Hobbes died in its prime, instead of becoming like Garfield.
