Overdone threads is the reason I like to spend more time here than on the gaming section. Too many "which is your least favorite game" and "what was your favorite kill" threads.

Not only are they bland, but those threads do not promote discussion between different users. It's just a "come in and get a +1 to your post count" exercise.

I don't see what the problem is recreating old threads. I mean if nobody is really ever going to post or even look at the old thread, it should be fine for somebody to bing it back for new discussion. People need to stop whining if the threads been done before. (This assumes that the old thread is dead and you're not just trying to copy a current one)
They would get looked at if people took the time to damn well look at them.

Its very easy not to bother using the search feature because 'Nobody uses the search feature'

I think that having a certain post count (350, maybe 400) before being able to post a topic would be the best option for preventing this. It assures that people who haven't been here very long don't, in fact, clog up the forums with old topics, as well as making sure they have a basic understanding of how the forums work before they post a thread.
*with hostility* You saying I can't make new threads? You want to step outside with that argument? (of course I'm joking with this line)

Seriously, an arbitrary designation like post count or registration date doesn't solve the problem. If a person registers yesterday, who but them is to say they haven't been browsing the forums for months before making an account? And then there's people like me who have been here for a fairly good length of time (certainly long enough to understand how the forum works at least), but don't post very often.

And I must say that if you think the Escapist moves fast, you need to get around in some other forums. This place moves a lot slower and more leisurely than I'm use to, which is why I enjoy it so much. Going to sleep on a live topic on the Escapist pushes it back no more than a page out of memory. Going to sleep on a live topic somewhere else can push it dozens of pages out of the community's mind where there is no chance of resurrection by someone other than the thread starter (or original poster as is the title around here).

Would it not make sense to have Stickys for the most common topics? Movies, Books and Music could have their own threads. Along the lines of Last XXXX You Saw / Bought / Played etc.
While popular topics like Most disppointing / underrated / Over rated etc. could also be stuck top the Forum menu.

i figured if you remember posting in a previous thread, don't post in this one. it wont get bumped and quickly forgotten about. i hate opening a thread thats been bumped up as it has had 5 replys in 2 minutes... all of which are complaining thats it been done already.

Im relatively new here so i don't start threads for exactly this reason.
I don't intend on on starting a thread until i have 200+ posts so i have some idea of what has and hasn't been done.

Tho it dose annoy me when the first few post are "this thread has already been done". I don't want to know this i want to know peoples opinions on the topic. I know that the older guys may be sick of a topic but the newer guys want to have there say, so they bring it back to life or start a new thread oblivious to the fact that its already been done.
