I dont know what else to post because my opinions have already been posted by other people.
This one sums it up the best.

Actually I'm pretty cool with knowing your opinion. For three reasons:

1) I enjoy the show.
2) The opinions of total strangers aren't exactly defining forces in my life.
3) You're entitled to your own opinion, just like I'm entitled to mine.

Sorry if I'm not coming across as too upset bro, but at the end of the day, your frothing hatred for ponies just doesn't bother me that much.

As for the OP: There's really nothing I can add that the other MLP fans / bronies haven't already said. I really, really don't think picking an avatar is some sort of serious attempt to declare your identity. You're looking waaaay too much into things, and should probably just chill out.

Or look at my avatar and assume I think I'm Batman's arch-nemesis, whatever floats your boat. In the meantime, I'll be hangin' with the bronies.

Maybe we like the show because it's a good show? And don't spout that crap about how it's a show for little kids, it's called an opinion.
Well, it was intended for children. Then again, so are swing-sets and I swing on those like Tarzan on Jane. (har har har)

For where is the fun of being a grownup?

People can can enjoy whatever the hell they want and I can enjoy whatever the fuck I like also. I have no love for this show but from hearing all about how 'anime is just tentacle rape and pedo shit' I understand how annoying pointless hatred for X show/genre is, especially from people who never give it a chance to begin with.

One thing I'll say is the amount of pony avatars is a little bit annoying. I'm not on some My little pony forum yet every other person has an avatar themed around it. I guess I just enjoy seeing a lot of unique avatars, that maybe give some information about the user other than 'they like ponies'. Don't dissect that statement and point out why I'm evil, it's just a minor annoyance, like if 1/3 of users used the default avatar forever.

I think the people who rage over how popular this is are worse than the fans, I haven't seen the show yet, I'm sure it is very good based on the love it gets, if I watch it and hate it I will not try to make others feel ashamed for liking it.

Nothing wrong with posting MLP memes. It beats the hell out of people trying to ruin Portal 2 for everyone else, doesn't it?
Agreed, my copy is coming in a week and I can't go into half of the sites i frequent due to the fear of people wrecking Portal 2 for me.

I understand it's a great show, but I really do think a ton of people are doing the more over-the-top things because the uninitiated react hilariously (read: people are easily trolled).

I use the occasional MLP macro myself <spoiler=because they're hilarious>http://i.imgur.com/fbvnM.jpg and have watched a few clips, but don't particularly intend to watch the show (I hate sitting and not doing anything while watching TV). I do find that most MLP threads turn out to be incredibly hilarious (see the above macro as to why), and that's why I drop in.

If people need to stop obsessing over My Little Pony, they need to stop obsessing over Doctor Who, Twilight, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Broadway musicals, reality TV, and every other entertainment outlet. After all, we're not allowed to be passionate about something we as individuals enjoy, right?

... Right?
How many threads and avatars/image spams do you see about those things compared to MLP.
Obsession is obsession, no matter how popular or obscure.

I guess my reason for liking it is:
Admits of all the destruction and violence(both real life and media), people need something unsophisticated, lighthearted and pure to enjoy. MLP just happens to be that.

Now, that said, you all seem to have taken this as adequate justification to go completely fucking apeshit over it.
Simple: It is FUN to go apeshit. Anyone who has fangirled or fanboyed before knows the joy of being mindlessly consumed.

You see, I've seen the most incredibly stupid things been pushed into cult status and think about it again what is in current cult status.
Pokemon....
Mario...
All the old stuff of Cartoon network...
Lady gaga....
Ke$ha....
Slipknot....
System of the down...
Every single thing in your list, with the possible exception of the old stuff on cartoon network, achieved mainstream popularity, thereby eliminating them from being "cult" status.

I checked out the new MLP because everyone raved about it. I liked it, but not as much as the 80s versions- which I like as much because its crap and retro as for any other reason.

I don't think it's as amazing and appealingly adult as other cartoons like Animaniacs, but it was cute and fun.
A lot of people compliment the art style (which I really don't care for) and the voice acting, but to be honest, if I want to hear Tara Strong being condescending and hilarious, I'll watch Drawn Together.

While I'm not especially fussed about it, I'm actually loving the cultural explosion that's followed it. I find the community and memes surrounding it to be much funnier when somewhat removed from the show.
I don't think anyone who likes MLP is specifically redefining themselves just because of a cartoon- I think they're just having fun with it. And more power to them.
