Alright Men! According to the avatars in this thread, there are 52 bronies, and 58 of us!

We must strike now, as their numbers are only increasing! We will only outnumber them for so long!

We invade ponyville at midnight! Remember: Shoot on sight! staring for too long will turn you into one!

I love how you constantly lie about the over abundance of pony pictures showing up.

I'm still waiting for you to go find those threads overrun with ponies you were talking about.

At least no one can say you don't try hard, even if you are really bad at trolling.

The "smug" I refer to is that thing the ponies do when they claim to have "taken over the internet," or that "they are to spread rainbows and magic" and then act like they've actually done such things. Then they hide behind the cliche of "haters gonna hate" even when no one is hating, but they are complaining- GAH RAEG GAAAAAH!! *cold water splash* I'm okay. Also, immature. Some are kind of cute with it, but then it just grates every last... *silence* Umm... moving on now.
Heh. I can see how that would be annoying after a while, but I must have missed that myself. I've seen the "Haters Gonna Hate" pics/gifs floating around, but only after some people who aren't fans of the show start becoming vocal about their dislike for the show - often in places where it's close to irrelevant to bring up such a dislike. I've also seen people taking on persona's or otherwise becoming cute with it. But I think that once a thread moves into cute territory, and you're not a fan of that, it's simply best to move on to a different thread.
More than that, I haven't seen those pics/gifs (except when in response to a "hater", as said above), or posts from anypony stating that we've/they've taken over the internet, etc.

I'm not saying such posts don't exist, mind. I'm just saying that out of all the pony-related threads I've seen, I haven't seen that stuff posted here on The Escapist, which would also explain why I didn't think of such posts when first responding to you. Hence, my confusion about what exactly you were referring to.

JoJo Bizzaro 7 said:
The fault was in my context. I thought that when I described the "problem people" as zealots, the assumption of extremist brony would be reached. Obviously, more clarification was needed. However, the statement of easily swayed, marketable, and addicted still stand, but in the broader sense of a consumer community as a whole.
Ah, rightio then. While I'm still not sure that it's needed to bring that up, as long as we're talking about the minority (which, really, exists in almost any fandom ever, not just MLP:FiM. And even then, I haven't seen too many of those kinds of people here on The Escapist), I otherwise agree with everything you've said about those people in this post and your previous ones.

JoJo Bizzaro 7 said:
Again, most of the fault lies in my apparent lack of context. I tend to do that when I try to put a little flair to my words. <spoiler=Image>http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/ric-flair-woooo%20may4.jpgHehehe... flair...
Good image there. :p

If what I post angers you, why do you keep replying? And I'm not really trolling. If I wanted to troll I would say something much more annoying/offensive.

I don't see a lot of, "Rebuilt identities" around the show. I see people who genuinely enjoy the show, and also appreciate the irony behind a My Little Pony show being so bloody enjoyable. That irony is funnier the more prevalent it is. Don't mistake a joke for serious obsessiveness, and remember that just because a lot of people like MLP doesn't mean they don't also see how ludicrous that fact is.

Also, the MLP Meme (And I mean this in the more scientific, unit of culture sense, not the strictly internet phenomena sense) propagates so well because it is a great subject. Go find a random, silly MLP video on Youtube. Chances are, it will be well edited, high quality video, lip synced and polished. Pictures will be appropriate, with some time put in, and generally be pretty high quality. And lastly, cartoons, especially children's cartoons, do a absolutely wonderful job of presenting a very strong, simple, iconic image. If you want to get across the humor behind something being crazy or ludictrous, there are plenty of options. Maybe a scene from Monty Python, Charlie Sheen, or some other icon. But they all require some prior knowledge, a certain consideration for the current state of pop culture, some context, and that can relegate the meme to a niche. A picture of Pinkie Pie hopping while wearing fake glasses immediately communicates that idea to anyone, anywhere. If you need to communicate a passive, shy individual acting unusually aggressive, that idea will be instantly communicated through a picture of Fluttershy yelling at that dragon. Cartoons simplify things so they can be understood and identified with more broadly, both through the act of drawing itself and the storytelling technique, and MLP manages to do this spectacularly well. MLP is so meme-tastic because it communicates so much so simply. Go look at a picture of the cast. Pretend you have never seen an episode. Odds are, you already know a huge about the characters just from there pictures.

As I see it, your avatar is an extension of yourself; it's what we substitute for a face when we read your post. Even just the act of making that an image of My Little Pony - or any direct culture reference, really - is something that strikes me as odd. It's like saying, "The most important element of my personality is my appreciation of this show/character/game/etc." This seems unreasonable to me.
I also think you're reading way, way, WAY too much into forum avatars.
He definitely is. I mean, I don't think of myself as an awesome red reploid with long blonde hair and a badass lightsaber that goes around kicking ass, saving humans, and dying every few games. And I doubt you do, either.

I just think Zero is a fucking badass while still being a relatively interesting character. To most people avatars are a homage to their favorite things... not an extension of their own beings.

Nothing wrong with posting MLP memes. It beats the hell out of people trying to ruin Portal 2 for everyone else, doesn't it?
oh yeah the people trying to force space and the lemon rant into meme's are FAR worse. But thats not to say that the over-abundance of MLP can't get a bit too much at times.
I guess I should just take this somewhere else then...

But I do have to agree with you, at least about the Portal 2 humour. Especially when the lemon rant was much more important than just being a throw away gag, but now everyone wants to turn it into a simple joke.

That being said, I'd be much happier for Wheatley's "Machiavellian!" to become a meme.

Ponies took the internet by storm last month, where were you?
I was probably watching something I'm genuinly interested in, sorry about that.

As for all the amazing things out there in the big wide world to be discovered, why was it a cheap remake of an old childrens cartoon show that took the internet by storm..?

I guess thats what broad-minded, intelligent, grown-up PC owners seem to go for these days eh..

God this planet is doomed for an early death isnt it...

Seriously guys, you're not convincing anyone you actually enjoy sitting through a cartoon about brightly coloured, girly ponies in some random magical kingdom that all sound like 6 year olds..
Hey guys! I found one who hasn't seen it but judges it anyway! Who doesn't even seem to know who made it! Isn't that cool?

I love how you over-exaggerate their presence. I've went out and checked each and every page of each and every thread for ponies. You? Made statements and insisted that they're facts while presenting nothing to back them up.

Okay, maybe I'll should make a reply with a bit more substance:
Wondermint13, you say that you're not interested in the series, which is just fine. What I don't think is just fine is the fact that you judge a whole fanbase and jump to conclusions while you clearly haven't seen the show.

Just FYI: The show is made by Lauren Faust, who has worked on Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home. That should say at least a bit about its quality.

So, if you're not interested, that's completely okay. But don't judge people without even knowing what you're talking about.

Peace.

*Pulls out his old wise man voice*

You fool! No man made force can defeat the herd. Grab your children, take all that you can carry and flee your homes while you still can!

OT: I think people are blowing this pony thing way out of proportion. The only real change I have seen here in my long time of skulking is the avatars and pics.

Most of the pony threads are started by people either
A) Asking what's with the ponies
or
B) Hating.

That's okay. Doesn't really matter what other people think my motivations for watching a cartoon about ponies are.
I'm watching it and having fun. Your understanding is not a prerequisite.

No, I actually like torturing myself by watching 26 episodes of one show. Are you serious?
