- STALKER Call of Pripyat. I'm not much of a fan of shooters to begin with so I only really tried this one because my brother gave me a copy for free. Again, it's an interesting concept but I just couldn't figure out what the hell was going on or what I was supposed to be doing.
I kinda had the same problem there. It was just... dull. Quit after 20 minutes. I loved Shadow of Chernobyl though, so, probably give that a try. It's the best of the three. Also, glitchiest, but the Steam version is updated, and with one mod, all problems should be gone. I can play it for hours, just sitting around campfires with random people, listening. I know Russian though, so that helps me get more into the world.

Portal. I know that might seem hard to believe but it just never resonated with me.

Red Dead Redemption. Fallout: New Vegas. Call of Duty 4, although I ended up loving WaW and Black Ops to a lesser extent. [footnote]I miss my bolt action rifles.[/footnote] Pokemon Platinum has been trying to push me out, but I'm determined to fall into it like all the others.

Team Fortress 2. I want to get into it, I love the humor, and I know many people who enjoy it that would be a blast to play with. But I can't get over the fact that it has absolutely no appeal to me beyond the aesthetic.

Half-life 2 is not a good game. It's not a bad game, and I do give respect to its modding capabilities.

But in all seriousness, it is just shit. It's boring. The characters are not interesting and it has a shit ending as well.

Also, weapon variety sucks, people think it has weapon variety? HA!
Almost entirely this. There were a fair few weapons in the game, but none of them were revolutionary (Yeah, the grav gun was a'ight, but not fantastic). I also thought having to swap to another weapon to throw a grenade or beat someone manually was fuckin' archaic. I'm not a fan of the instant kill knife in CoD/Battlefield, but I like in games like Halo, or Mass Effect, where the melee is either a part of the weapon, or just something that isn't considered an entire weapon in itself. I also agree that the the story was crap (Or lack thereof from 2 onwards) and the only interesting character is the G-Man, simply because no one knows what the hell he is.

Fable 2.

I rented it and thought it was okay. Nothing really tripped my trigger, so to say, and I was just kind of playing because I had beaten everything else I owned and I payed money for it damn it! But then I fell asleep playing around noonish. I returned it that same day. I just didn't really care about any of the characters I had met (even the dog).

AssCreed, I didn't mind the first one despite the slightly wonky tutorials, but as soon as I finished the introductory level I just stopped caring, I haven't gotten past the first 15 minutes of AssCreed2. Perversely I played all of The Saboteur twice.
I was kind of the opposite - I found AssCreed 1 to be a huge grind for the most part, it took me well over a year to finally get around to finishing it.

2 and Brotherhood, on the other hand, I couldn't put down. Revelations is still in my to-play pile.
To be fair it was mostly at disgust at the terrible controller support/PC porting. I chose my Logitech gamepad from the list of supported controllers and the tutorial kept telling me to hit buttons that were the wrong ones. Beyond that though I felt extremely underwhelmed. I have installed AssCreed2 on my HTPC and mean to give it another go just as soon as I stop playing FIFA12...in about 2018 or so...
Yeah, the PC ports (particularly of 1 and 2) were pretty shabby. I ended up playing them with mouse and keyboard :p

Easy- Bioshock, boring ass game. Gave it way too many chances, and none of them came through.
LOL - forgot completely about Bioshock. I gave up before halfway. After I'd gotten over the incredibly pretty game world it became just another shooter...

I still can't play Team Fortress 2, though part of it might be that I tried playing Scout too early and now I can't deal with anyone else's relative lack of speed. I also can't get into a lot of sandbox games, since I generally like having a reason to do stuff other than that "it's there" - that's why I like Assassin's Creed. Just Cause 2 was actually pretty fun as well, though I've never been able to enjoy Bethesda RPGs...
My replay has absolutely nothing to do with your post, but I wanted to quote you since your avatar references the very thing I wanted to mention...

Touhou Project. Crucify me if you so choose, but try as I might I can't get into it. In the interest of time and not wanting to increase sodium levels, I'll simply say that there are more than a few niggling details about the series at large that keep me from enjoying it, and I'm not even talking about the "difficulty".

Sure, most of the music is pretty good (at least the metal remixes... I love the metal remixes) and Iku Nagae is fucking awesome, but outside of the occasional doujin, Touhou Project is just one more series I could care less about.

Western RPGs in general. For a lot of reasons.

1. Character Creation. I know that a lot of people defend this as the best feature, but it is not. It is the worse detriment imaginable. Never mind the illusion of choice thing. What this does is prevent the writers from writing one specific storyline for the game and waste more energy trying to keep things open as possible. You can't get strong characters when you do something like.

2. Your actions don't matter in the universe. When you leave a game, have you really accomplish anything. Most often nothing useful or important.

3. No emotional attachment. Even the worse made JRPG character has a leg up over the average Western RPG character. In order to get annoyed at someone, there needs to be something there to latch onto. You get annoyed at your FF13 characters because someone made them that way. I never felt anything for my avatar in Western RPGs.

Now awaiting the one person that always want to call me out on this.

if you're looking for major titles, where its almost taboo to not like them, then here's the list:

Gears of War series
Halo series
Persona series
Splinter Cell series
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Half-Life series
inFamous series
LitlleBigPlanet
Limbo
Assassin's Creed 2 (and beyond)
Grand Theft Auto 4

Ok, I'm not saying any of these are bad games, I just couldn't stand playing them

I'm... PRETTY sure that most characters aren't written to be annoying (except for a few)... people tend to find them annoying because they're just badly written...

Nothing wrong with that- unlike AssCreed 1, Saboteur was actually entertaining.

On that note.... yeah. Assassin's Creed 1.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I love the setting, the characters, the story, the voices, but everything else just sucks, from the combat to the quests (although I like that they finish automagically, not needing to return to the quest giver). I mean, the combat is like the worst parts of an MMOs combat system, mashed with a few unique gimmicks, like seeing the future. I want to keep playing it, but really, it's slogging through one massive chore after the other to see each individual, yet incredibly awesome, cutscene.
I'm currently playing through the game myself. And I actually like the combat system. Granted, I kinda wish certain aspects of it were explained a bit better, like the combo attacks. Other than that though, I'm really enjoying it so far.

My only complaint with the game so far is the gem crafting. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how exactly I use the different kinds of flames during the crafting process. It just seems kinda random to me.

OT: Probably Assasin's Creed. At first I was interested, but then my 360 RROD on me. I thought it was a fluke at first, so I kept on playing. Unfortunately, the system kept shutting down on me and I eventually had to send the system over to get repaired.

By the time I got my 360 back, I kinda lost interest in playing the game. :/

Any turn based game.

I don't understand what the appeal is in taking one of the largest parts of most games and taking any skill out of it. Everything just feels detached, like you're not playing your character but rather someone shouting orders to them.

I have problems with a game that doesn't let me compensate for a level gap with skills.

Pretty much every first person shooter (or other first person game) I've played ever, Including Portal. I just find that perspective incredibly jarring and if there's any combat, I suck at it since I can't tell space very well. The "realism" that is meant to come from it also feels incredibly limited, since you can't look down and see yourself in any way that seems remotely natural, making you feel like a floating camera. I'm also incredibly vain and need to see how cool my character looks, which you can't do in FP games. The Elder Scrolls is really the only first-person oriented game that I could really get into.

Other than that:
Phantasy Star Universe
Modnation Racers
Two Worlds II (mostly the badly balanced multiplayer)

Interesting, then, that many turn based games (Civilization, Fire Emblem, Pokemon) are attempting to emulate such an experience.

I could not get into Red Dead Redemption. I don't know what it was exactly about it but it really didn't click with me. I'm a huge fan of open world games but it really didn't interest me all that much. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time.
Speaking as a fan of the game, could it be because you spent 80% of the experience staring at your horse's bum? Because that was a bit detrimental to me too...

I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE! Tried it, loved the style, but I couldn't get into it beyond that.

Also, Oblivion (and probably Skyrim). Strangely, I loved Fallout 3, though.

Portal has fun game play, but every screaming idiot fanboy really ruined my ability to get into the game. Also, a mate of mine wouldn't shut up about the Companion Cube. Dude, it's just a box. Calm down and let it go.

For some reason, I can't really get into first-person games. Just something about it bothers me. I don't know if it's the orientation or what, but something makes me feel uncomfortable. I do have a few exceptions (Portal, Qube, Sanctum), but even they make me feel uncomfortable from time to time. When I was younger and playing racing games, I would never drive in first-person. I always preferred the third-person view. I think it gives me a better viewing range and I like seeing the character. Not sure where the discomfort comes from, though. I also don't like shooters very much because I'm not very good at them, and I've heard the horror stories about those communities. I've sat next to a few people playing shooters and observed bad behavior first hand, from teens and adults alike.

Anything made by Blizzard or Bioware. Most things made by Valve. The entire Shin Megami Tensei series, including its spinoffs. Oh, and The Elder Scrolls series. Blech.

In the older realm, I've never been a Mario fan, I never saw the appeal of Golden Axe, and I abhor Sonic CD, the poorly designed piece of garbage it is.
