EA doesn't own Bioware, they're distributor/saleswhatsit. They advertise and distribute, Bioware makes.

Multiple platform could just reference PC, as there was a PC version of Mass Effect as well. I hope, however, it means a release for PS3 because exsclusives are ghey.

PS: I own an Xbox.
No, they were publisher for the first, then they actually bought them in October of 2007.
Here's hoping them and Blizzard can countinue to not suck while the evil empires feast on their blood like a gigantic lamphrey.

PS3 release would probably have to have both the games come in one pack (and they would probably fit on one disc) so you can get your previous character.

There hasn't been a Dead Rising 2. Has there? Or is ti being made?

As for all this stuff about the previous game affecting your current...don't hold your breath I doubt it, it'll probably just be something like a few different quests/conversations like your backround did in the first.

Yes, I know Bioware promised us characters would carry over, but promises are made of sunshine and hope and reality is made of shit and bricks.

I think that the word 'confirmed' in the title is a bit unmerited. it didn't say PS3, as you stated, and I'm going to wait.

I hope they do multiple releases, though I'm a 360 owner. Why not share the fun, and if the PS3 had more titles I cared about, I might own one.
Yes, because Mass Effect Wii is a possibility I guess.....*lol*
I hate to burst the bubble(not really), but the wii, she just cannae handle it captain.
Sh' just needa some more dilithium crystals, she cannae handle it captain. XD

Ahh its good to see Mass Effect coming to PS3. I am a 360 user myself, but I feel like it will be refreshing for the ps3 to have another strong title to its name!

If that actually did come to pass, I think a part of me would die. Like... literally die.... to the point of my taking a shovel and burying that dead part of me in my backyard.

First Dead Rising and now THIS?!?! You monsters!!!

Anyways, Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 would be nice for the people who've only got Sony's console, but considering that things you've done in the first Mass Effect are supposed to affect the second one, it'd be kind of weird for them not to port the first one over beforehand.
Dont forget Dead Space.

Anyway, fucked if I care. So long as they make a trilogy like they said they would, Im happy.

ME2 will probably have a way for people to go through and choose certain plot points in the previous game (Rachni, Wrex, Partner Choice (if you get me)...), if it didn't then they would be shooting themselves in the foot from a marketing stand point because the people who just got into the universe wouldn't have as robust an experience as the ones who had played the first game.

I think we should do less guessing more drinking till we faint. That way, we may feel less down if EA pulls a fast one and only releases for consoles.

I'm guessing 360 + PC. Does it really make sense to release Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 when the first one hasn't even been ported over?

...or has it? A quick Google search says "rumour, rumour, rumour", circa 2007.
Lets see, Condemned 2, Saints Row 2, Dead Rising 2, Call of Duty 3.....
No, you have it wrong. Mass Effect 2 is supposed to continue directly from Mass Effect. The things that happen in the first one, say being rude about Joker's bone disease or declining the fans autograph are still present in the sequel. Some of the more important moments can be solved with a questionnaire (I expect this to be in the 360 and PC versions as well so that newcomers don't have to have a cookie cut back story) but even if you do this, the player will have no idea whats going on. Mass Effect explained a lot of things, not knowing the story cripple the play experience of Mass Effect 2.

Better yet, put Mass Effect on the PS3. Unlikely though. If Mass Effect 1 does not get ported the PS3 then neither will Mass Effect 2.

I'd really like to think it's true. Especially if they ported Mass Effect to the PS3 as well, I'm currently playing through it again (4th time) and it's pretty much the only game holding me back from selling my Xbox...... come on EA, do it for me!

I'm a PS3 owner myself, but I will be happy as long as it's released for the PC the same time as 360. I'd get it on PC over the PS3 anyway. The PC version of the first game was far superior in my opinion.

Unless that happens. :)

Condemned 2 and Saints Row 2 both made the jump without their predecessors.

BioWare's Mass Effect was a blockbuster RPG, selling over one million copies worldwide during the 2007 holiday season. When Electronic Arts purchased BioWare, however, many wondered if the sequel to Mass Effect would remain exclusive to Xbox 360.

Although specific platforms were not mentioned, EA CEO John Riccitiello did mention on the quarterly earnings conference call today that Mass Effect 2 is being planned for release on "multiple platforms" during the fourth quarter of the upcoming fiscal year.

It's certainly possible that multiple platforms simply means Xbox 360 and PC, but Electronic Arts doesn't typically limit its multiplatform releases like that. We now believe that it's highly likely that Mass Effect 2 will launch on the PS3 in addition to the Xbox 360 when it finally hits the market in early 2010.

SWEET! Mass Effect 2 on the PS3! I know EA did not say "PS3" specifically. but it does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Now if only that rumor that Mass Effect 1 was getting ported to the PS3 is true.
BioWare is basically EA now. I wouldn't get excited by this, unless having Tiger Woods as a member of your crew is a good thing. BioWares normal creativity and willingness to create something new and interesting WILL be curbed by the shitty by-the-numbers philosophy of EA.

They're not THAT EA anymore, I think the last year has proven a shift in mentality. If that will sustain is a completely different question altogether, given the figures for the last quarter - increased revenue and a loss in earnings tell their own tale of how exactly innovation and improved QA reflect on the shareholder value.

As far as ME 2 is concerned: I want a simultaneous release for the PC. I just don't want to wait another 6 months, considering how I can barely contain anticipation right now. But I guess it looks pretty good for that: Doing one marketing campaign instead of two does make sense business-wise.
