From what I can see, evidence points to MS not holding rights of Mass Effect. If they did, Mass Effect would have been published by MS Game Studios for the PC as well, which it wasn't. Furthermore, the copyright notice explicitly states all things Mass Effect as property of EA, not Microsoft. So much for that.

My worry is that EA will butcher the story in order to please the much bigger market that haven't played the first game yet. For example, they could play around with the pacing or weigh it down with backstory instead of giving us the full-on conclusion that we want.

That said, I can't wait for this game. Regardless of what EA could do to the story it should still be an awesome game.

Well since they have stated you will be able to carry your first character to the second game it says to me that if you never played the first you are going to get an auto levelled character in #2. So for them to bring it to the PS3 they will have to fill it with a ton of backstory first off. Then they will get an auto levelled 50 character with no customization beforehand. That sux for a new player IMO
Stop making up stuff...nobody said you'd get an auto-levelled character...besides the first game only had 60 levels, so giving people a level 50 wouldn't work anyway.
Whoops level 60. So when I bring my level 60 character I will smoke everything because they will have to let the noobs have a level 1 character. Makes alot of sense there.

They have already announced they are increasing the level - cap of yourself (and my guess is enermies) up to level 120.

And theres difficulty settings for a reason - stop moaning before you even know whats in the game.

Who is moaning? It is simple logic. I can't bring a level 60 character into the beginning of a level 1 game no matter how high the difficulty is set. Well not if I want any sense of challenge. And I doubt they will be able to make a program that can recognize one who imports thier character from 1 vs a new character.

Enemies are scaled to your level. I mean, you could replay the game with your first character. You could be level 50 or so, but the enemies would provide the same level of challenge, due to being level scaled.

I assume this is how it'd be handled in the transition to Mass Effect 2.

And how do you handle a starting character at level 50 or 60 grinding up to level 120 vs a level 1 character going the same route.

You make it sound like Mass Effect will be the first game ever to use a character from the first in the sequel. It just works out as level 60 in the sequel is the equivalent of a level 1 character in any another game. Just kinda sucks for some since they don't get the experience of building the character from the ground up.

Like Mercenaries 2 right?

That game was totally epic, it had a very intriguing story, a universe of such depth that even the brightest man couldn't understand and it had no bugs or flaws at all.

At all.

IT'S SARCASM!
I didn't think the selling point of Mercenaries was the story, I thought it was blowing shit up. When that's all you need to sell a game, why bother wasting money on writers?

Alright the deal is the Ps3 gets Mass Effect 2, but in exchange
we demand.......
MGS4 and God Of war 3

The deal is acceptable,
Yah, except that Mass Effect 2 is now published by EA. EA being the Kings of Multiplatform Games.
Isn't the Mass Effect IP under exclusive license to Microsoft, though? In that case, it doesn't matter that it's being published by EA--they would be bound by whatever contract BioWare had with Microsoft regarding the IP rights over Mass Effect.

The real question is just how much Microsoft owns of the Mass Effect IP.
No, they don't. If Microsoft owned the rights to the IP, they would be the only ones who could legally publish the game.
Rights are a much more complicated issue than you're making them out to be.
True that. ++++++

Wait and see, stop jumping to predictions when the game has only just been officially announced.

Be that as it may, does anyone know if its true at all? I'm p[retty sure they don't hold the rights to it.
I think the Mass Effect IP is not property of Microsoft to be honest. Then again, this announcement could have been made to draw hype for the game, to announce its coming out for PC at the same time, (unlike the first game) or that its possibly going to PS3 as well.

The fact he specifically used the words "platform" and not "console" mean any of the above could be true. We'll have to wait and see, but trying to argue about it from such little information is pointless.

SWEET! Mass Effect 2 on the PS3! I know EA did not say "PS3" specifically. but it does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Now if only that rumor that Mass Effect 1 was getting ported to the PS3 is true.
but is it worth the money

i'll probaly get it if

it has Trophies

solid mulitplayer

and is fun
