This thread is based on the premise of the movie "Gamer".

For those who don't know the film, basically technology has been developed that allows people to control a living, breathing human being completely like a game character. The people subjected to this are death row inmates.

My question is, Could you do this to another human being? If yes What if you could hear their voices whilst you played?

My answer you ask? I definitely could not do this, I'd feel like a murderer.

I would do this, and not consider it murder.
If the ethics are raised about it being another life, I always stick by the argument that people forfeit their life when they take another.
Death row inmates don't have to necessarily be murderers but the concept is the same.
This is why I'm for the capitol punishment being brought back here in the UK.

I don't think I could because I know what I'm capable of within a game.

I almost always play the evilest possible and do some abhorrent things, things I would never do to a real person.

i would have no problem playing it, but i would have a question of why some one would do that, i would rather watch them fight to death gladiator style, or death race, give them the ability to live or die, rather then allow some random gamer do it, i follow the philosphy of P.F. that science has yet to prove that life means anything, the world has spun for millions of years before us it will probly spin right up to its own death weather we are here or not.

Anyone remember the movie ExistenZ? That was cool. Anyways...yeah, I would totally do this to prison inmates! Absolutely. And wouldn't feel bad about it either, because i'm a self-proclaimed asshole. Plus, inmates deserve a little fear...afterall, they're inmates and they're there for doing the exact same thing to other people. Instilling fear and causing pain. Think of it as returning the favor.

No and for the same reasons I am against capital punishment.

We can't ever know for sure whether or not a person is guilty. Imprisonment for many years can be reversed by letting them out but you can't raise a man from the grave.

There are also ethical issues with torture and deciding that you are at a level that allows you the right to kill someone.

Doesn't this argument mean anyone doing the executing forfeits their life when they take that of the inmates? My want to close the logic holes there.

I'd do it easily. Not for any, "Murderer's don't matter!" reason either. I don't give a damn about morals I'll play any game that put's someone else's life on the line. It's the kinda thing that would allow me to be a sociopath and have people love me for it.

Why not robots? Because then they become sentient and turn on their overlords driving us underground to lead a tortured existence of constant fear of extinction.

I for one don't see a reason why this would be fun to begin with...

Normally I play games because I want to get away from reality/not be bound by normal rules, in unrealistic settings and enviornments...or at least different from what I see every day.

But answering the original question, no, I wouldn't find it fun manipulating human lives.

OT: Sounds to me like it'd be pretty hard to make a fun game based on prisoners, completely bound by the rules of the real physical world, who can't be allowed to escape because they're actual violent offenders. What would be the object? To see how horribly you can make someone die? How long you can survive? There aren't a lot of options.
