"Console gaming is better because it just works"... still a valid argument?

Hmhm.., N64 pwns all, especially PCs, 360s and PS3s :p
Seriously though, I still prefer to play N64 than my PC and my Xbox. If only it wasn't still in school for my stupid friends to play. *sulks*

depends on numberous factors,

1. consoles are designed for games, so they tend to have easier control systems
2. depends on the game
3. depends on what pc you have, most pc games tend to run the latest software (duh) but new software seems to come out every few months meaning older systems are introduced to that lil thing called lag, consoles come out every few years and developers are stuck making a game around the console.

when I bought my xbox 360, i had this list of choices to make:

-new or used?
-if new, arcade or elite?
-if used, what chipsets are available? what is the potential of this model to overheat?
-new or old DVD drive?
-what size harddrive?
-what type of av cable?
-what accessories will I need?
-should I buy more ethernet cable?

yep, i considered the make of the processor, the harddrive size, the make of the DVD player, and whether or not i would need new cabling, keyboard, headphones, etc. buying an XBox is almost as complex as buying a computer now.

the ultimate decision- consider the games you want to play. would you rather play them sitting on your couch with a controller, big TV screen and a surround sound system, or would you rather play them with a keyboard, small responsive monitor and headphones? it all depends on the context, that's why I now have both.

While I personally think it's a matter of personal preference and that all the bickering is like two five year olds argueing that 'my Dad could beat up your Dad' there is something to be said for the simplicity of consoles (objectively speaking it is much easier to simply put a disc in a tray that it is to run an install program and 10-12 buttons are easier to remember than around 50).

We've all seen console elitists putting down PC gamers so often on these forums. "Oh PC gamers are elitists with no lives" and such, "what tards, console gaming is better, it works with no installs or glitches or viruses"...
I'm thinking anyone who argues that console gaming has no glitches is a moron, or a troll.

I've never heard that as the argument in the first place, so it's really a pointless question.
As both a PC and console gamer I have to admit, for the larger scale games (mostly with large online modes) I would go PC- in particular games that are mod heavy. However any other kind of game (Batman Arkham Asylum for instance) I will always go console. Much easier to control, faster, more secure and no risk of upsetting processors or graphics cards.
That's really all there is to it.

I like gaming. All sorts of gaming. Granted, I'm not completely loaded so I don't get new systems until they've dropped in price considerably. That isn't a problem, however, because consoles come in generations, kinda like humans. PC is just easier for me because I don't bring my 360 to college, as it would consume all of my time. My recent issue, however is that consoles keep the PC community at a standstill because they don't update their hardware often. This means that the only extremely pretty games are PC exclusive. This doesn't bother me much except for the fact that small towns don't have stores that sell PC exclusive games because of the console being a larger market.
Consoles are a good thing to measure a game by, though. If you can't narrow your controls down to the number of buttons on a controller, then the game is probably too complex (I don't spend enough time with my Xbox to know the exact number). However, I like hotkeying stuff. pressing one of my many buttons on my keyboard to make my strongest attack is much better than cycling through them to pick the one I want.
My point, or the one i meant to talk about, anyway, is that if a game is good, it should be judged as a game, not by the console it runs on (though I hate exclusive titles with a fiery burning passion, i really wanted to play infamous, but I don't have the cash for a PS3).

Well of course console gaming is better than PC. Let's take the Wii for an example, I mean... I... uh... I f***** that one up didn't I?

In all honesty I would say that PC is better gaming platform for most of the games. Keyboard+mouse combination is much better "controller" for most of the games but of course there are exceptions like (2D) fighting games which are much more enjoyable to play with Playstation or Xbox than on PC thanks to their controllers.

Also I think that consoles are better for gaming when you invite your friends to your house. It is much nicer to play on (big) TV screen with everyone having their own controller than everyone cramping in front of the PC screen with (at worst) having to use same keyboard.

Can anyone tell me a single positive thing that can result from this discussion? Even one? I very honestly can't think of anything.

There is no objective best. Get what you like and stick with it.

The three consoles are completely inferior in hardware to PC's built within the last two years.
Isn't that a bit unfair on the consoles because they were all released several years ago so obviously they're going to be inferior to the current hardware built for PCs today, yet they can still play games being developed today at fairly equal standards to PC games graphically and gameplay-wise as I haven't heard of any parts of a game cut from a console version of it simply because it was on a console and not a pc.
My last PC (built in 2004) had better hardware in it than the current generation of consoles, and just as a comparison for graphics, I ran Bioshock on my PC (in 1920x1080 with direct x 10) and on my PS3 (on an hdtv through hdmi cables) and not only did the pc look better, it ran smoother.

Pc's crash, consoles crash. You buy a console when you want to chill with some video games and possibly with friends. You buy a PC if you want to work, create, watch, read, listien, browse, and play video games.

The difference between them is like the difference between a digital and an analog clock.

Both have their uses.

as long as it is easier to mod games to the pc than them to the consoles, I will be a pc gamer

That's quite true. Also, generally, consoles are more powerful systems, but there are gaming PCs that have download times of mere seconds. (usually custom made)
You need to explain this whole statement because it is patently untrue. A cheap graphics card will have more processing power and ram than any of the current gen consoles and downloads are entirely dependent on your internet connection, not the hardware.

But how much was your PC? There were some PCs with very good hardware but were very expensive and so wasn't suitable for use in a console because it would have been too expensive to produce and would have resulted in a higher price for the console, limiting their market.

Also the graphic improvement on the PC compared to the PS3 may have been laziness on the developer's part in not making the graphics the same quality, or it may have just been your TV as you do get different HD settings.

Ah, the age old argument bound to turn parties sour.

I prefer console gaming, but simply because of the controller, I cant get used to keyboard and mouse controls as I was brought up on using controllers. I have tried the Xbox controller for windows but the lack of dead zone for the controller on most games I'd like to play kills it for me.

However, with gimmicks having a bigger influence in the gaming market, such as the new motion gaming, PC would have to change its formula to keep up, which is hard for PC to do as a PC never really changes, it just upgrades. If Natal and the Playstation motion controller really pick up and the future of gaming becomes motion sensitive, I think PC gaming would find it hard to keep up to date due to a lack of generations of the PC. However, that all said, I hope motion sensoring dies a horrible painful death, it ruined the Wii and it looks grim for the PS3 and 360.

Also, with the increase of stuff youd only get on a PC appearing on the 360 and PS3, for example Facebook, MSN, Sky Movies, it shows that while consoles will never replace PCs, it isnt as disadvantaged as it once was
