FPS, RTS and RPGs are always best on PC.CrysisMcGee said:Alright, I've always been a PC gamer, and enjoy console games as well.
PC controls are better for a lot of Genres.
3D shooters, and Strategy games are easier with PC controls.
Puzzle games can be easier because of the mouse.
RPG's, Racing, Sports, Action, Adventure games, PC controls are not normally superior to console controls. Either one works fine.
Platformers are usually easier with a gamepad, so console controls are easier to use here.
Fighting games are easier with a gamepad.
Anybody who thinks they are a master at console shooter controls, play Combat Arms for 5 minutes. You'll adapt, but you will realize why 3D shooters are easier on a PC.
A lot of games though benifit from having mouse control.
Anyway, which do you prefer?
It might be a good idea to include a poll for this forum. Personally I think console games are better for shooters. I know that a lot of people think mouse is better for an FPS, but i feel that console controls feel more natural. On the other hand RTS games are USUALLY better on the PC. I said USUALLY because I've seen a few RTS games with good console controls. Someone will eventually perfect the console RTS controls, and when they do it will probably be better than the PC.CrysisMcGee said:Alright, I've always been a PC gamer, and enjoy console games as well.

I agree it feels so much more natural to shoot, and control your character on a console. It feels strange that buy pressing W your character can go forward. It makes more sense with a joystick.Mimsofthedawg said:I prefer shooters on my console than the PC. For some reason it feels more natural to me to pull a "trigger" to shoot and stuff.
The xbox 360 has a usb port which you can plug a keyboard into for typing, I don't know why they don't use that option as a control for some people.DeadlyYellow said:See, the beauty of USB ports is that they can allow use of BOTH keyboard/mouse and controllers, which is essentially why I like the PC.
Yep, as does the PS3. But companies assume you're just going to be using the standard controller so usually don't offer a way to map to a keyboard.williebaz said:The xbox 360 has a usb port which you can plug a keyboard into for typing, I don't know why they don't use that option as a control for some people.
It's funny that you mentioned civilization because they had a console adaptation of that game with excellent controlsdrakenabarion said:Mouse and controller for FPS, and controller for anything else. I dont play strategy games like Civilizations or Sims, but you really need a mouse for those.
Its not that I don't like the keyboard, but Analogue has advantages, and I don't need an extra button to walk slowly. Also, on PC, the keyboard is always there so I can setup hot-keys.
I just feel that it's too unnatural to play with a mouse, sure you can move faster, and it's more accurate. But it doesn't feel right to shoot a gun by clicking as opposed to pulling a trigger. Not to mention that a Gears of War cover system would feel awkward on PC.Woodsey said:Keyboard for everything except driving, and the occasional game which was clearly built with a gamepad in mind and then ported to PC controls (i.e. Stranglehold).
I really don't understand the argument that a pad is better for an fps. Stick PC gamers against console gamers (all of pretty much equal skill) in a match and the PC gamers will come out on top; there's just so much more precision.
Mmm, perhaps. Everything's open to preference really, I think everyone can see the benefits of each: Pad's being more ergonomic, keyboard and mouse being faster, etc.williebaz said:I just feel that it's too unnatural to play with a mouse, sure you can move faster, and it's more accurate.
