I think it's a case of Animation Age Ghetto, where he thinks anything animated is for children, show him that anime can be adult too...obviously not H-Anime, orelse that would seal the whole thing, show him Death Note...or something, or if he doesn't want to watch it, try watching adult anime near him and see if it piques his interest. :O

Or try this I guess. I recommend Cowboy Bebop if you go this route.

If he doesn't like anime for whatever reason then there's no point trying to convince him otherwise, it's like me and my dad, I don't talk to him about video games and he doesn't talk to me about football (or soccer for any American's) there's plenty other things for us to talk about and that we like. If he's actuallty insulting you or causing a fuss when your trying to watch it then thats different and obviously you should just explain how if something you find entertaing to watch just like him with his golf/football/soap opera's/fishing whatever he has no right to judge or be-little you for it and vise-versa.

That's just the thing. I can't do anything anime related without him going off. I was looking at Bastion on the XBLA (we only have one xbox, and it's in the living room) and he started complaining because it's art direction was anime-esque. And God-forbid I'm watching any when he walks in the room.

Wow. I love anime too and this just makes me realise how lucky I am to have the parents that I do. They've never had an issue with my love for it, in fact, my mum actually bought Last Exile for herself one day which was pretty cool of her.

No, normal cosplayers aren't prostitutes, you can, however, get a prostitute to cosplay for you in Japan. That's not a normal cosplayer though, that's a prostitute offering just one more sex service.


Also, in Japanese love-hotels there actually are costumes available for the couples to role-play together, it's a big thing over there you see, uniform fetishes and whatnot, so that's what creates misunderstandings like your dad's.

If you want to trap him, sit him down and watch the Death Note live-action films with him. Then when they're finished, go bring out the manga and anime versions and tell him that that movie he just watched was a simplified and dumbed-down adaptation of that. Maybe put on the anime and show him part of it.

I can't vouch for cosplay, I can't relate to anything more complex than wearing a robe and wizard hat to the Harry Potter premiere (and even then, I'd never have done it myself).

Okay, seriously, did you even read my post? My problem isn't that he doesn't like anime. My problem is that he a) constantly berates me for watching it and b) legitmately thinks that all cos-players are prostitutes. I never claimed a "void" between me and my dad either. I have no idea where you got that from. And if you have no shits to give why even bother posting?
