I've never gotten into cosplay.. I'm halfway weirded-out by it.. I mean, it has its own special name and people seem to take it so seriously. Probably, if it was just called "dressing up as someone", like, y'know, at Halloween, then I'd have an easier time with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm *slightly* "otaku" myself, but seems like everyone else who even begins to fit that mold takes it a lot further than I do.

Still, I guess I'm probably just being elitist and maybe a little bigoted. I mean, it seems to be just costume-party stuff, yeah? My wife and I went as The White Stripes for Halloween once - does that count as "cosplay"? Does it have to be anime-related? (If it does, does that mean there's anything wrong with it? No, right?) If I thought to myself (or at an internet forum): "yeah, it'd be kinda cool to go to a costume party as Katsuya and Maya from Persona 2, if only anyone could tell who the fuck we were.. (and if Maya didn't have such a horrendous jacket)" ..does that mean I'm a "special" kind of nerd who needs to come out of a "special" closet? I mean, there's a resemblance..! Argh. I dunno. I guess I wish it wasn't called "cosplay".. just sounds kinda awkward/kinky.

No, but really, is there any significant difference between cosplay and good 'ol dressin' up for Halloween/costume parties? Is there some kind of "playing" involved?

Well after shamefully sinking an entire weekend into Sonic the Hedgehog Two, I now really want to cosplay as Robotnik, but I'm not sure it'll work out.

I usually take joy is snapping pictures of Cosplayers. After a depressing convention of absolutely nothing but Narutards & half-assed Casual Lolitas, I actual started offering people cash to come dressed as something GOOD. I even held my own personal one-woman-judging & award $50 each to a Lina Inverse, a Queen Emeraldas, a Captain Harlock, & a Mana.

To answer your questions in order:
1). Motoko Kusanagi
2). There is a costume store which has made costumes for several, very prestigious Hollywood films. I'll always use them
3). It's a tie between doing Hare Hare Yukai in costume and the Cosplay Ball's "Arena"
4). Suiseiseki and Haruhi Suzumiya

I don't cosplay but if I did I;d dress up as Ezio Auditore da Firenze (fun fact; da Firenze translate to "from Florence")

I don't cosplay out of a mixture of me being fat and a lack of conventions in my area. I would consider going to a convention as Yugioh abridged Bandit Keith or the hair guy as I can impersonate them pretty well, however, and I could probably pull off a decent Kenshiro if I developed huge muscles and tanned some (of course, that's a pretty damn big requirement).

I'd actually love to cosplay, though I've never done it. If I was going to a big con, though, I'm sure I'd give it a shot.. assuming I could convince my wife to do so as well. Heh

I've cosplayed as Luigi and Tartarus. The Luigi turned out pretty good but the Tartarus was nothing like him in Halo 2.
Other I might try include a Charr from Guild Wars, although that will pretty much be a fursuit...

I guess I've cosplayed before, but it was for Halloween.

Me as The Scout (Red Team) from Team Fortress 2

Close up! X3

My brother (left) and myself as Ghostbusters. (or as I like to put it Experimental Weapons Technician Roberts and Research and Development Alenko.)

My brother's Proton Pack. (the whole set-up is 'flipped' because he shoots lefty.)

Before we entered the Village Halloween Parade in Manhattan. (hella fun even though it rained.)

A better shot w/ me in all the gear.
I might be the Scout again this year, and my brothers & a few other people might do a Team Fortress 2 group thing. My older brother (Ghostbuster Roberts) would probably be the Sniper, I'm trying to get my oldest brother to be the Medic (will need him to shave & get a haircut for that though.) and my younger brother to be either the Soldier or the Engineer (but being the prick he is, he probably won't do it.). My sister in-law & her friends (Pac-Man & the ghost in '09, sorry no pics at the moment) might join in as well.
But then again, we might do a Task Force 141 thing. It would be cooler, but the likelyhood of getting arrested is a lot higher for that one. (might be mistaken for terrorist, crooks, etc.) Also, it would be a lot more expensive than doing a TF2 set-up.

don't laugh, I'm going to cosplay Lara Croft next month. lol.

I would really like to cosplay as Jade from Beyond Good and Evil at some point, or perhaps Faith from Mirror's Edge.

I'm too fat to cosplay as anyone. :< Though if I had the physique for it I'd... still have no idea who to cosplay as. *Shrug*
You could be that one fat guy from that one fighting game.
You'll have to be more specific than that. xD
Maybe he's referring to Bob from Tekken 6.

I don't think I would ever want to cosplay. Not because of what it will be like when I get there, but imagine all the people staring at you while you're on your way to get to wherever you're going.

But if I must, I would either go as my gaming hero Professor Layton or the Medic from Team Fortress 2.

The Heavy from TF2, if only because I get to yell at people in a bad Russian accent, smack them around with my fists and declare love for big guns.

One of my friends said she'd go as The Scout and fight me for my sandvich.
I tried to get someone I know to dress up like a blu Heavy so that I could get a picture of me eating a sandwich while sitting on them, but it was a no-go.

the scout, Ive got the bod for it and Ive got a bat, but if I do it then Im gonna make it look damn good and have to get better at yelling BONK!!!!!!!
When I was the Scout, I was running around Long Island City & Astoria screaming, waving my (wiffle ball) bat around and going "Boink!/Bonk!" every so often. (scared quite a few people like that. Hell, even when I wasn't running around screaming I scared a few people. Take when I was in a subway station. A guy let me though a turnstile ahead of him, so I walk though and say in my best Scout "Yo, thanks". He starts to walk off while staring at me, and soon enough runs off.

Never again...

If I ever cosplay again (which won't happen), it would be one of the following

Imperial Commissar (I'd need the hat and a green trenchcoat, among other things)
Space Marine (might be a bit short, but whatever)
Altair/Ezio (I can't even begin)
