Honest question: Why do so many people say that the PS3 is too expensive when it costs the same as the 360? I don't get it.
They haven't checked prices recently, you'll notice a few people haven't realised that PS2BC has been gone from the PS3 for years before the Slim was released.

And after checking, it turns out ALL Slims and all but the oldest PS3's aren't backwards compatible with PS2 games, but they can play PS1 games.
This right here should end all debate on backwards compatibility, because its true. I had to get a new PS3 (got Yellow Light on my original 80gb that was pretty much FULLY backward compatible aside from a few games, and damn Asurion fudged up fixing it 3 times! So they cut me a check for a brand new one...and then some...) Now I have a 250gb, and it still plays the library of PS1 games, most of it, if not all, I'd assume.

Pros: You get to play Uncharted 2, Resistance 2, and God of War 3. Plus you can watch Blu-ray movies and DVDs. You know, in case you don't already own a DVD player.(These are very big pros. Except the DVD player thing.)

Cons: I don't know, the price is still pretty high and frankly the controller isn't as good as the Xbox's, but that's just my opinion. Oh yeah, and the online is kind of shitty compared to Xbox live, even considering the racist toddlers.
You missed MGS4 and Infamous. Anyway yeah the controller, to me, isn't total shit but doesn't compare to a 360 controller. It just feels too light for me.

Oh and uh, you recharge the controller by connecting it to the PS3, with Xbox 360 you have to buy batteries. Still prefer the latter though, the wire is too damn short.

Because the 360 is too expensive as well.
i just have the ps3 controllers plugged into my pc which running most of the time and they always charged, when i want to use my ps3. and i play games on my pc with my dualshock 3. nm once charged they can last an entire day just about i never timed it but know i put a ton of hours into games without needing to charge the things.

controllers feel is all in the eye of the beholder, i love the sony controllers they fit my hands perfectly, they are comfortable for me, they are sturdy as hell, even threw mine on the floor a time or few and still works perfectly. they might be smaller and lighter but they are in no way flimsy by any stretch of the imagination.

ps3 controllers or xbox controllers only that matters is personal tastes. mine is colored by i been using them since the ps1 so i basically grew up on the things and been using it before there even was a xbox.

But it costs a heap and you have to install games.
The latter is more tedious than a real problem, the former isn't true. When you factor in Xbox Live Gold simply for the privilege of playing online a 360 costs twice as much over the life of the console than a PS3, and that's not factoring in that you'll easily go through two 360s while a PS3 is still going strong.

PS3 is the cheapest of the 3 consoles as far as long term cost goes. With the Wii you end up paying a bunch for all the accessory controllers, for the 360 you're paying for stuff that comes included with the PS3 and for being able to play online.
Well as far as I know the only thing you really have to get for the Wii is the Wii+ but I might be wrong since I don't own it so I am just saying thigns like the Zapper aren't mandatory as far as I know. Also what kinda things do you pay for on the 360 that is on the PS3 besides the online?

Pros: A fair amount of space to install games and save games to, a fairly sturdy hardware system with a good success/failure percentage, will outlast all the current gen consoles, Free online gaming(this is more of a console only pro) and doubles as a Blu Ray player.

Cons: No mods for games like Oblivion, normal version is awkwardly shaped so must be at the top of your console pile, new version don't have the same level of backward compatability as previous models(not 100% on this one but I remember something like this), hard to update/upgrade hard drives(once again not 100% but as far as I remember).

Installs of games move at a fucking glacial place and that is the only complaint I have.
PS3 is a great console. IF you get the Slim, you won't have any hardware problems as long as you take care of it (no dust, vents not blocked) it doesnt require extra special care like my 360. And also the visuals will blow your eyes off especially on games like Uncharted 2.

It's not mandatory but from a practical sense you end up doing it. The motion controls aren't well implemented in most games, so using controllers specifically designed for the game usually is a better idea. You could get away with paying less, but the Wii's already anemic library would be shrunk further.

Multiplatform titles have a depressing tendency to be inferior than the 360 version, but that's about it.
However, thankfully this problem isn't that bad with more recent titles. Sometimes the PS3 version actually runs mildly better now.

Yeah, devs seem to be finally getting the hang of coding for the PS3. But then you get releases like Red Dead Redemption. The game's still great, it's just not as pretty as the 360.

As a comparison between the PS3 and Xbox360:

- The PS3 has a pretty narrow but very good selection of exclusives, while the Xbox has a lot more MS exclusives, some of which are awesome but a lot of which are nothing to shout about.
- My PS3 has given me no problems at all in the time I've had it, while in the same space of time, my friend is on his 3rd Xbox through no fault of his own (first the dreaded RRoD, then not being able to read disks). Although reliability probably needn't be mentioned.
- The PS3 has free online, unfortunately the same can't be said for the Xbox
- The PS3 takes forever and a day to update, not so sure with Xboxes.

If you get a PS3, try to get a first-spec 60Gb one in good condition. Unfortunately Sony haven't figured some people would invest in a new PS3 with all the equipment.

From videos I prefer the look of the PS3 version, it's a bit softer which I think fits better compared to the really crisp look on the 360.

I love my PS3, haven't had any problems with it yet.

Only real thing that drives me crazy is the current retail version (which I unwittingly purchased) has no backwards compatibility.

Also: Ratchet and Clank.

I still think the Wii holds the title, but yeah, those damn shoulder buttons are so easy to press and they are usually the ones assigned for grenades.
But, here's the big bummer - no backwards compatibility.
Other than that, good console, a ton of exclusive and a pretty good online service. That's enough in my book.

Obviously the controller is an issue of preference but I think the PS3 wins out here overall. You can get 360 style controllers for the PS3, or with 360 style triggers but still otherwise like DualShock. For the 360 there's only one option, so if you do happen to prefer the DualShock then the 360 doesn't work out. The PS3 with 3rd party controllers has far more options than the 360.

PS2 backwards compatibility and other OS support were both likely taken out as they were potential avenues for hacking. Both the hacks I'm aware of made use of either PS2 BC or other OS (with firmware 1.8). Obviously there wasn't much done with it, but the potential was there and I think that's why they did it. Sony seems to very strongly believe that piracy is what's holding the PSP back.
