Could you kill somebody?

I don't see it quite as a question of could you kill if yourself or someone you love was in danger, hell I could tell you right now there are people I would take a bullet or a knife for if that really gives the right meaning for it.

The real question is CAN you kill your attacker? Could you maintain that clear state you have now and not panic? Our resident army person here can probably testify along with me that being taught how to kill and to have the resolve to go through with it are two different things, however to go through with it with a gun, could you keep yourself steady, could you react in time, basically would you freeze up or take the shot?

Only in extreme conditions. Basically, I'd have to first blow his hands and feet off, and he still have to continue trying to kill my friend, somehow... maybe he would bleed to death first... does that count as killing him?

Or, if there was no other way out. Something like I'd have to have a non-armor piercing sniper rifle(maybe an old one) and the person would be an instance from killing my friend, and their in a steel building or something with a small window only at his head, eye level(maybe to watch me), and I'd have to be a mile away or so. maybe a walky-talky with him saying "say good night" and my friend screaming. some very bizarre thing that is nearly impossible to happen. then I'd take the kill shot.

or, if they were zombies. no problem killing off zombies.

Here is something you can't understand; how I could just kill a man. Sorry, I love CH so much I had to do it. If I am being threatened at gunpoint, for example, I think I would.

Well yes. If it's in the 'direst of circumstances' I probably could, depending on the person in question. For clarity's sake, lets say it's a total stranger who hasn't done anything good or bad to me - in such a case I probably could.

I would make sure there were absolutely no other outs then though.

Yep. Certainly could, even in cold blood. Just that the law and public opinion of me stops me from doing it.

I don't know. Mentally, I think if it really came down to it, I probably could.
I'd really rather never find out for sure though.

I'd like to think that I can, because anyone who is uncapable of taking another human's life under the appropriate circumstances isn't fit enough to survive in the long run.

I don't think so. Maybe me or them, or if I knew I'd be killed if I didn't do something, but... I don't think I could do it if I knew someone would pay my ransom, but I'd rather just attack them with a glass bottle, take their gun or knife, and hold them hostage until some police arrive.

In self defense I bet that most people would. If you had a weapon that could, and if someone was really threatening you that much, I doubt you would give much thought to the psychological effects of ending a human being's life.

Yes. Of course, I won't do so unless pushed to, simply out of fear of the consequences (psychological as well as actual).
