If it affected a member of my family I'd probably do it. Also I don't know if I want to go to gaol for obstructing justice.

Highly doubt it. If it was something I really didn't want to see happen anymore, I'd physically stand in their way, but I'm no snitch.

Well, if I was being called to testify against them because I saw them commit the crime, then it would be really selfish of my friend to expect me to commit perjury just to save their ass.

WAIT! Murder and a small bag of weed are the same to you?

OT unless it was rape then most likely not. I'd help a friend bury a body if need be. But only a few certain friends.

Yeah, if my friend did something that I thought was wrong, chances are that they'd think so to. The friends that I know wouldn't blame me for sending them away if they murdered or raped someone.

Depends. If they did something horrible that hurt someone, yeah I'd certainly spill the beans and send them off.

If they were accused of tax evasion or something I wouldn't though.

Depends on the friend. Possibly, if what they did was objectionable to me than it might be a basis for not being friends. And if they're not friends, off to prison they go. If it doesn't bother me to the point of ending the friendship, then no, I wouldn't.

Depends. If they murdered someone, probably. But if they just stole something from a large supermarket or smoked marijuana or something I really couldn't care less.

EDIT: Also depends on how close I am. If it was my best friend, I'd probably really struggle to send them to prison.

Does the crime act as evidence that he is a threat to other members of society, or that his presence in wider society puts himself at risk? I mean, if he stole a pack of gum, I wouldn't send him to prison. I'd give him a talking to and try and make him see reason, but not prison. But if it was something like mugging someone for money so that he could go out with his mates, then unless I am sure that he won't do it again I'd send him to prison (if there was enough evidence). Or if he was dealing drugs, or was committing crimes for the rush. You know, if it wasn't a one-time event.

I also guess that if he had a drug addiction (illegal possession), and if the prison he would be sent to wouldn't get him raped and murdered, then I'd rather he spent a couple months in prison getting clean than ruin his life over momentary pleasures.

Once at a job interview, I was asked what I would do if I knew a friend was stealing money from the company. I looked the interviewer dead in the eye and asked "How much?"
I didn't get the job.

Depends if it's serious enough or not. If I could get in trouble for withholding information on say a murder hell yeh I would. Self preservation over anything else. You may think it cruel but it's just logic. And I'll follow that logic over anything.

Yes, without hesitation. It's funny seeing this thread considering what just happened. One of my lifelong friends went to one of our friend's birthday party two days ago. He (the attendee, not the host) has been going through some rough "finding himself" situations with life and all that jazz. Well, he has developed a somewhat unhealthy taste for alcohol and decided, after a whole night of drinking, that he should drive himself home. We didn't realize he did this until almost an hour after he left (he lives about 15min away, but he never said goodbye. He just left randomly) so we couldn't call the police on him, but we would have in an instant if we caught it in time. I'd have him thrown in jail for the DUI without even thinking. That's unacceptable behavior.

Depends on how good a friend they are, and what crime. I used to be a snitch n Primary School and I copped a lot of shit for that, so I can't really get my friends in trouble anymore...that and, although this is heartless, if the crime doesn't involve me, why should I be involved?
